Navigating the Bible: Colossians

“So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.” - Colossians 1:9-10 Colossians, to me, seems a bit like a hidden gem amongst the Epistles. It doesn’t have the heft of Romans or the well-known passages like Corinthians. It doesn’t seem to be as popular to read as Galatians, Ephesians or Philippians. It kind of feels like when you’re told we’re going to be studying Colossians it’s met with a . . . yay . . .. But when I went back into Colossians to prepare for this episode, I was surprised to see just how many notes and underlines and whatnot I had made the last time I went through the book. Pound for pound it might be my most underlined Epistle by percentage. Paul’s letter to the Colossians is focused on what it truly means to live in the new life - to live in the way of Christ. To help us navigate Colossians today is Dr. Greg Beale, Professor of New Testament and Biblical Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary and author of many books including a commentary on Colossians.
