If you've been born again, if you've had that experience of regeneration, you belong. To be a Christian means... belonging to a person. Maybe one reason it means so much to me personally, because I can always remember as a little girl, I was so glad that I chose Joe Kuhlman to be my papa. That was one of the smartest things I ever did. Oh, my goodness, a life I'll tell you. Mama tells when I was ever so little. Just a wee little thing. You can hardly think of me ever having been little because my legs are so long now. But it took me to have my picture taken once, and somebody came to me and asked me what my name was. It wasn't because I was stupid. But it was because everybody had a nickname for me. At home, they called me Baby. Or they called me Little Joe. All the neighbors had a nickname for me. We're having a good heart -to -heart talk about something that means an awful lot to me personally as a Christian. The fact that I belong to a person, and that's what it means to be a Christian. One thing they never called me, they never called me Kate. That's one thing. If anybody had ever called me Kate, they'd have had Mom on their hands. But everybody, I guess I was the kind of kid that everybody had a special nickname for me. And when they asked me what my name was, I said, wait just a minute, I have to go ask my mama. You know, it was like that. But until I was pretty big, whenever they'd ask me my name, I would say, I belong to Joe Kuhlman. I'm Joe Kuhlman's girl. I was so... proud to belong to Papa. Today is the third of my life to be able to stand before the whole world and say, world, I want you to know something. I belong to a person. I belong to Jesus Christ. Sure, I'm a Christian. I've been born again. I've had that wonderful experience of regeneration. I want you to know that I belong to the very son of the living God. This thing of being a Christian is a matter of relationship to a person. All right? Now we're going to go a little deeper into our heart -to -heart talk at the Lord's Prayer. The prayer that Jesus prayed and is found in the 17th chapter of John. But in this heart -to -heart talk today, I'm only going to take just a portion of that prayer, of the conversation that Jesus was having with the Father. And in this prayer, He makes it known very definitely that through the covenant between God and himself, we belong to Jesus. For Jesus himself, speaking of us, said, Thou gavest me. And he's reminding the father that the father had given him. That's Jesus. Us. That's the redeemed. To him as his possession. Sure, it's wonderful to look up and say, my heavenly father. We do belong to the heavenly father. But the right of possession is Jesus Christ the son. Doesn't that do something to you? You'll never be lonely again when this fact becomes a reality to you. Now, I want you to see something, something that is most unusual. In speaking to the Father, he calls him Holy Father. Holy Father. No one has ever lived who has ever known God the Father as intimately as Jesus. He was with him, a very part of him, inexistent with him. And yet in speaking to him, he calls him Holy Father. Sometimes I think that we get a little too familiar with God. I say that advisedly. And the longer I live, the older I get, the more experienced I become in spiritual things, the more I am convinced that men and women get too familiar. With God Almighty. Oh, sure, remember. I don't mean a cold relationship. God is our Heavenly Father, but remember something. He is still God Almighty. Absolute perfection. Absolute holiness. to the extent that no man, no woman in the flesh can look up on his face and live. When you realize the absolute holiness, the absolute perfection of God Almighty to the point where man in this body of flesh, that which is still corruption, that which is still mortal, cannot look upon the face of God and live that something. That's the reason these old bodies of ours, as they are in their present state, cannot... stand in the presence of a holy God. That's the reason this mortal must put on immortality. That which is corruption now must put on incorruption. There has got to be a new body. Now remember something. When Jesus came in the flesh, He was as much man as though he were not God. Therefore, when he came into the presence of the Father, when he spoke to the Father, he addressed him as Holy Father. Had you ever thought of that? He was conscious, very conscious of the Father's holiness. The other day I was thinking about something when I was reading this portion of the Word of God. Never was I more conscious of Mama's principles, Mama's righteousness, as when I brought a kid home. That wasn't the kind of a kid that I thought Mama would approve of. Oh, sure. You know, kids are funny. I can say that because I was one of them one day. I always thought Mama was too strict with me. I was one of those kids, too. But why, Mama? Why can't I? But I had the kind of mama I only said why mama once. I didn't repeat it. There wasn't time to repeat it the second time. She had me over her knee before I got a chance to whine around. But mama, all the other kids do it. Mama, all the other kids can stay all night with their little girlfriends. All the other little kids can do it. Why? Uh -huh. I always felt as a youngster that Mama was so strict with me. And I was very careful what kid I brought home to play with because I always knew that Mama could see right through them. And I found out something. I'll just pass this on to you. Kids know each other far better than most parents know their youngsters. And it's like that. There were some youngsters that Mama thought were nice youngsters. But as a youngster playing with that same youngster, I knew that youngster better than their own mother, than their own dad. If you want to know what a youngster is really like, you ask the youngster who plays with that one. Well, but there were some when I would bring home, and I knew they were not all they should be. I never was more conscious of Mama's principles, Mama's good teaching, Mama's training. I saw Mama's righteousness as I had never seen it before. Here is Jesus Christ, the Son. in the form of flesh, as much man as though he were not God. When he prayed, when he came into the presence of the Heavenly Father, he became very conscious of the Father's holiness. And addressing him, he addressed him as, Holy Father. Now see something. And this is something that is very revealing. Remember, this is a prayer. This is an actual prayer of intercession that Jesus prayed. This is what he's saying to the Father because he knows that he's about to leave. He knows that he's about to leave not only his disciples, he's about to leave those who would accept him as their savior. And he's saying, while I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name. Those that thou gavest me, I have kept. And none of them is lost. It's a son of perdition. that the scripture might be fulfilled. And now I come to thee, and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in them. I have given them thy word. Get this. I have given them thy word. Nothing takes the place, the word of God, absolutely nothing. The word of God has no substitute. It is God's word. It is truth. I have given them thy word. I'll go back. Do that in just a few minutes. And the world hath hated them because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Pause a minute. Sometimes I get so sick of that which is on the outside. I get so fed up. Do you feel as I feel? After having been out among those who are living in sin, I feel like going in and just taking a good bath. I feel like using some kind of detergent. I feel dirty. After being outside. I'm not talking about my righteousness. I'm not talking about that whatsoever. Beloved, I'm not talking about any goodness that I have. But it's so unclean. It's so dirty out there. I don't know how better to express it. Man's conversation has gotten to be so dirty. People's minds are so unclean. There's so much... filth out there. There's so much injustice out there. Man is so lacking in principle, in morals. Just something about it. And yet, he has not yet taken us out of the world. It was never his plan to take us out of the world. Oh, sure. I confess to you, I'd give anything in the world that's in his great plan of salvation, that he had made one thing that he left out, and had I been doing it, I would have put it in. And that is the fact that just as soon as a person accepts Christ as his Savior, take him immediately, take him home to glory, then I won't have to worry about him, you know? How often I thought that, because you don't begin to realize what a responsibility I feel towards those who are born again in this ministry. I can't begin to tell you. I guess it was a good thing that God never permitted me to be a mother. Because I have so many spiritual children, I couldn't take care of the whole works, you know. for my spiritual children. I feel so concerned about you. I mean that. When you have troubles, I feel those troubles very deeply. When there's sickness at your house, when your prayer requests come in to me, I take them just as seriously as though it's my own flesh and blood. When some of my precious folk aren't in the services, And a week goes past, and another week goes past, and I think, what's happened to them? My goodness of life, are they all right? I pray that they have not yielded to temptation. You know, I can't help. I'm human. I'm concerned. I love you. And it's been so much easier on me. Oh, my goodness. It would have been so much better if in God's wonderful plan he had made it so that the very minute one accepts the Christ as his Savior, he would just have a private rapture and he'd take you home to glory. And then I... Wouldn't have to worry about the temptations and your sickness and your heartaches and all the rest of it. But it was never like that. Never. We are in the world. We will continue to be in the world until the time that he takes us home to glory. But even though we are in the world, we do not have to become a part of the world. I do not have to become a part of immorality. I do not have to become a part of the dirtiness that is in the world. I don't have to become a part of the sin that is in the world. I have his word. The greatest legacy that was ever left man was his word. I have his word. I belong to the son of the living God. The mighty creator is my heavenly father. Mm -hmm. And when he prayed this final prayer, knowing he was going to go, he did not pray that they should be rich. He didn't pray that they'd be great. He didn't pray that they would no longer have suffering. He didn't ask the Holy Father that they should... Not no trials. He didn't even pray that they should be kept from sickness. Now, I'm human. And when I pray for you, just instinctively, I love you. I'm human. And I pray, dear, wonderful Jesus, don't let sickness come to them. Please, wonderful Jesus, keep them from heartache. Keep them from sorrow. How often I've held a little baby in my arm. Oh, I'll never know how many babies I've dedicated in my life. Your youngsters, your children. And I pray, dear Jesus, keep these little limbs strong. Keep them from sorrow. Keep them from heartache. Touch this little mind. Give them a good mentality. Protect these little eyes. Take awful good care of them. Your blessing, your smile upon them. I'm human. That's my prayer. But when Jesus came into the presence of the Holy Father and prayed for you and prayed for me, He didn't mention any of these things. No. He didn't mention any of these things. Because he knew there'd be temptations. He knew that some of these trials that you and I have gone through were the very things that would make us big and cause us to grow. And there'd be spiritual growth. through trials, through suffering, through heartache. He wouldn't have prayed for our good had he asked that we would escape these things. These are the things that make us grow in the Lord and develop our character. This is the one thing that he prayed. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. Mm -hmm. My prayer would have been, they're safe. They're born again. Take them. Take them as quickly as possible. If you don't take them right away, don't let anything happen to them. Don't let them have any sorrow. Don't let any sickness come to them. Bless them materially. No. Jesus, all wise. Having the knowledge of the Father, said Father, I pray not that thou shouldest take them out to the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. And as long as you and I are willing to be kept, he will keep us. God bless you.
