The reality is so many people have already been wearing masks even before this started. This current virus has given people more of an excuse to keep the mask on and hide with the really going through and to hide what’s really happening behind that mask. One of the things about the masks is that you can hide your emotions. --- Masks in a pandemic protect other people from us. Masks in our lives protect us from other people. /// WE WEAR MASKS IN OUR LIVES BECAUSE WE FEEL PROTECTED FROM OTHERS KNOWING WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON… /// SOME OF US have been wearing MASKS for SO LONG that we are SO USED TO THE MASK… WE THINK its comfortable to wear a mask---but it’s not—we’re not actually free, not actually THE MASK is holding us back from living our best lives… The same things that could protect us also harm us--- keeping us in isolation, away from community, away from honesty, etc…Genesis 27:1, 4-12, 13-24, 30-21, 34, 41 -----Rebekah puts on a disguise on Jacob— parents be careful what you put on your kids— we’ve got to be careful what we make our kids wear, do, play, try that’s our WAY OF LIVNG OUR DREAMS instead of encouraging them to be who they are, and cheering them on... ----JACOB deceived his dad ISAAC to believe he’s the son ESAU... --WHAT are you HIDING FROM??? What are you HIDING? Filters and photo manipulation How a mask develops? 1) labels & words spoken over us 2) the people we envy 3) the pain we experience - we allow the pain to steal the real us 4) the lies we believe from the enemy Why people wear masks: 1. Acceptance – Many people want to be accepted for many different reasons and to be accepted we feel we must be what everyone else wants us to be. There are some who have one persona and some who play many roles. 2. Fear – We all fear and worry about what other people think of us (judgment) and if we went through life being put down and rejected that fear will play out and we will put on a mask. 3. They don’t like who they are – Many times we don’t like who we are and try to be other people by copying their characteristics. Sometimes we try to be the perfect person by copying the best characteristics of different people we see. We may look good on the outside but on the inside we still suffer because we know it’s not like us. 4. Trying to hide – Due to different situations in our lives we try to hide our real selves or try to make ourselves look better than we are…smarter, richer, more popular. All this results from a low self esteem. 5. To forget – Many people think if they put on a mask and be someone or something else they won’t have to deal with a painful past or current situation. The problem is that the thoughts will continue to chase us in one way or another and we truly won’t forget. Job 15:5 (NLT) Your sins are telling your mouth what to say. Your words are based on clever deception. EPHESIANS 4:25 – put off falsehood—stop deceiving. HOW DO WE UNMASK??? 1. First admit you are wearing a mask – realize you are “ill”--- Jesus said I come for the sick --- 1 John 1:8-9 // parable of religious man vs. sinner- LUKE 18 2. Acknowledge our wrong doings – confess and repent, handing the mask over to God. 3. Pray for strength, read the Bible and learn what God expects of you. Allow Him to work in you even when it’s painful. 4.
