Promise you we'll make you 0:02:12.360 --> 0:02:14.680 feel right at home, But thanks for tuning in today. 0:02:15.240 --> 0:02:17.079 I like to get started each week with something kind 0:02:17.080 --> 0:02:19.520 of funny. And I heard about this group of elderly 0:02:19.639 --> 0:02:22.480 ladies way up in their eighties. They were driving down 0:02:22.520 --> 0:02:25.519 the freeway and this police officer pulled them over. He 0:02:25.600 --> 0:02:28.359 said to the driver, ma'am, do you realize you're only 0:02:28.440 --> 0:02:31.400 going thirty five miles an hour? And she said, officer, 0:02:31.520 --> 0:02:34.120 that's what the sign says, and he kind of chuckled 0:02:34.120 --> 0:02:36.320 and he said, no, ma'am, that's the number. 0:02:36.120 --> 0:02:38.440 Of the freeway. This is Highway thirty five. 0:02:39.360 --> 0:02:41.320 He said, By the way, one of those ladies in 0:02:41.400 --> 0:02:44.119 the back seat look so terrified. That little old lady 0:02:44.200 --> 0:02:47.320 grind and said, because we just got off Highway ninety five. 0:02:49.520 --> 0:02:52.840 All right, hold up your Bible. Say it with me today. 0:02:53.360 --> 0:02:55.960 This is my Bible. I am what it says. 0:02:56.040 --> 0:02:56.320 I am. 0:02:57.000 --> 0:02:59.400 I have what it says I have. I can do 0:02:59.520 --> 0:03:02.679 what I can do. Today. I will be taught the 0:03:02.800 --> 0:03:07.120 word of God. I boldly confess. My mind is alert, 0:03:07.680 --> 0:03:10.720 my heart is receptive. I will never be the same. 0:03:11.360 --> 0:03:16.360 I am about to receive the incorruptible, indestructible. 0:03:15.880 --> 0:03:18.360 Ever living seed of the Word of God. 0:03:18.960 --> 0:03:22.880 I'll never be the same, never, never, never, I'll never 0:03:23.000 --> 0:03:27.799 be the same. In Jesus' name, God bless you. I 0:03:27.960 --> 0:03:31.040 want to talk to you today about the power of remembering. 0:03:31.880 --> 0:03:34.800 The Bible clearly tells us there are certain things that 0:03:34.920 --> 0:03:38.200 we should forget, but there are also certain things that 0:03:38.280 --> 0:03:39.640 we're supposed to remember. 0:03:40.160 --> 0:03:41.839 And if we'll use our memory. 0:03:41.640 --> 0:03:45.560 For the right purposes, it'll create faith, it'll bring hope. 0:03:46.120 --> 0:03:48.520 It's when we use it for the wrong purposes, it 0:03:48.680 --> 0:03:50.760 keeps us negative and discouraged. 0:03:51.160 --> 0:03:53.080 Our memory has incredible power. 0:03:53.520 --> 0:03:57.360 If you sit around thinking about some sad event, even 0:03:57.400 --> 0:04:00.880 though it may have happened two three years ago, before long, 0:04:01.520 --> 0:04:04.600 you're going to feel sad. You're gonna feel discouraged. You'll 0:04:04.640 --> 0:04:07.920 feel that same emotion. On the other hand, you may 0:04:07.960 --> 0:04:10.280 be at home one day, all alone, and all of 0:04:10.280 --> 0:04:13.120 a sudden, you think about something your child did, a 0:04:13.280 --> 0:04:17.280 tender moment, a hug, a kiss, a funny story. That 0:04:17.520 --> 0:04:20.440 memory will bring a smile to your face. It'll bring 0:04:20.560 --> 0:04:22.760 that same warmth, that same joy. 0:04:23.400 --> 0:04:26.920 What made you happy? Right memories? What made you sad? 0:04:27.400 --> 0:04:30.360 Wrong memories? Now, I can't find one place. 0:04:30.200 --> 0:04:34.200 In the scripture where it tells us to remember our disappointments, 0:04:34.720 --> 0:04:38.760 to remember our hearts, our pains, our failures. No, again 0:04:39.040 --> 0:04:42.040 and again, it tells us the thing we're supposed to 0:04:42.160 --> 0:04:45.640 remember are all the great things that God has done 0:04:45.720 --> 0:04:49.400 for us. In other words, remember the time God spared 0:04:49.440 --> 0:04:52.600 your life from that accident. Remember when you got that 0:04:52.720 --> 0:04:56.120 promotion even though you weren't the most qualified. Remember how 0:04:56.200 --> 0:04:58.919 God turned your child around. Remember how He. 0:04:59.040 --> 0:05:00.840 Sets you free from those addictions. 0:05:01.400 --> 0:05:05.360 We should constantly remember the great things God has done 0:05:05.400 --> 0:05:07.680 in our lives. That's what the psalm is said here 0:05:07.920 --> 0:05:12.159 Psalm seventy seven eleven. I recall the many miracles God 0:05:12.200 --> 0:05:15.599 has done for me. They are constantly in my thoughts. 0:05:16.200 --> 0:05:20.320 I cannot stop thinking about them. Notice he said they 0:05:20.360 --> 0:05:22.400 should constantly be in our thoughts. 0:05:23.000 --> 0:05:26.919 The problem we have many times is we are remembering. 0:05:26.640 --> 0:05:30.880 What we should be forgetting our disappointments, our hurts, our failures, 0:05:31.360 --> 0:05:35.359 and we are forgetting what we should be remembering our victories, 0:05:35.800 --> 0:05:38.680 our successes, the times that God has brought us through. 0:05:39.480 --> 0:05:43.240 It's interesting in the Old Testament, God commanded them to 0:05:43.400 --> 0:05:47.479 have certain feasts, certain celebrations, and one of the main 0:05:47.680 --> 0:05:51.080 reasons was so they would not forget what God had done, 0:05:51.600 --> 0:05:53.960 And so several times a year they'd all stop what 0:05:54.040 --> 0:05:57.000 they were doing. Everybody would take off, and they'd go 0:05:57.160 --> 0:06:00.440 celebrate how God brought them out of slavery, or how 0:06:00.520 --> 0:06:03.520 God defeated this enemy, or how He protected them over there, 0:06:04.120 --> 0:06:09.160 they were commanded, they were required to remember. In another place, 0:06:09.200 --> 0:06:12.119 it talks about how they put down what they called 0:06:12.440 --> 0:06:17.120 memorial stones, and these stones or large markers were to 0:06:17.200 --> 0:06:20.800 remind them of specific victories, and every time they went 0:06:20.920 --> 0:06:24.000 by them, they would remember what God had done. This 0:06:24.200 --> 0:06:27.120 memorial stone is for when God brought us out of bondage. 0:06:27.520 --> 0:06:30.040 This stone is for when He healed our children. This 0:06:30.200 --> 0:06:33.559 stone is for when God supernaturally provided for our needs. 0:06:34.160 --> 0:06:37.520 And having those memorial stones helped it to stay. 0:06:37.360 --> 0:06:39.920 Fresh in their memory. That's what we need to learn 0:06:40.000 --> 0:06:40.160 to do. 0:06:40.880 --> 0:06:43.960 Let me ask you today, are you taking time to 0:06:44.120 --> 0:06:47.920 remember your victories? Are you taking time to celebrate what 0:06:48.120 --> 0:06:48.719 God has. 0:06:48.640 --> 0:06:53.800 Done in your life? Have you put out any memorial stones? Hell, Joel, I've. 0:06:53.680 --> 0:06:56.760 Got so many problems. I've got so many obstacles. No 0:06:57.000 --> 0:06:59.760 one way to build your faith. One way to keep 0:06:59.839 --> 0:07:03.280 you encourage is to go back over your life and 0:07:03.480 --> 0:07:07.320 remember the great things that God has already done. Remember 0:07:07.400 --> 0:07:10.080 the time that God made a way for you when 0:07:10.120 --> 0:07:12.920 it looked like there was no way. Remember the time 0:07:13.000 --> 0:07:15.920 when you were so lonely, so down, yet God brought 0:07:16.000 --> 0:07:19.440 somebody into your life. Remember when it was so dark 0:07:20.000 --> 0:07:23.480 you didn't think you'd see another happy daddy. But God intervened. 0:07:23.920 --> 0:07:26.080 He not only turned it around, but he gave you 0:07:26.320 --> 0:07:28.760 joy for you morning. He lifted you up out of 0:07:28.800 --> 0:07:30.120 that pit of despair. 0:07:30.240 --> 0:07:34.200 Gave you a new beginning. Here you are today, happy, healthy, whole. 0:07:35.080 --> 0:07:38.880 If you start remembering things like that, you start recalling 0:07:38.960 --> 0:07:43.360 how God has healed you, protected you, guided you, blessed you. 0:07:43.760 --> 0:07:46.400 If you'll get that deep down on the inside, you'll 0:07:46.440 --> 0:07:49.120 have a new attitude. You won't go around thinking, well, 0:07:49.120 --> 0:07:50.640 I wonder if I'll ever get out of this mess. 0:07:51.080 --> 0:07:53.480 I wonder if God's ever going to work in my life. No, 0:07:53.600 --> 0:07:55.880 you'll be saying, I know if God did it for 0:07:56.080 --> 0:07:57.880 me once, he'll do it for me again. 0:07:58.240 --> 0:08:00.320 I've seen him do it in the past. I know 0:08:00.400 --> 0:08:01.680 he's going to do it in the future. 0:08:03.040 --> 0:08:05.720 Really, it would do us all good on a regular 0:08:05.840 --> 0:08:09.760 basis to go back over the major victories in our lives, 0:08:10.360 --> 0:08:14.160 the major successes and just one by one. Thank God 0:08:14.280 --> 0:08:17.880 for what He's done. Remember the day your children were born. 0:08:18.520 --> 0:08:22.120 Remember how God gave you that job. Remember when God 0:08:22.200 --> 0:08:25.040 brought that person into your life. You fell in love, 0:08:25.160 --> 0:08:28.320 you got married, you got a great family today. Remember 0:08:28.400 --> 0:08:29.440 what God has done for you. 0:08:29.920 --> 0:08:30.760 I do it often. 0:08:31.280 --> 0:08:33.559 I think about the time that I walked into a 0:08:33.640 --> 0:08:37.720 jewelry store right here in Houston, Texas, in my early twenties, 0:08:37.840 --> 0:08:41.120 minding my own business, and outwalked the most beautiful girl 0:08:41.200 --> 0:08:46.480 that I'd ever seen. It was Victoria. I thought to myself, God, 0:08:46.600 --> 0:08:51.079 you just answered my prayers. We dated for a year 0:08:51.080 --> 0:08:53.040 and a half and she couldn't keep her hands off 0:08:53.080 --> 0:08:56.199 of me, so we got married. At least that's the 0:08:56.200 --> 0:09:00.480 way I remember it. But I don't take that for granted. 0:09:01.000 --> 0:09:04.640 I know that wasn't a coincidence. That wasn't a lucky break. 0:09:04.920 --> 0:09:08.240 That was God directed my steps. That was God causing 0:09:08.320 --> 0:09:09.760 me to be at the right place. 0:09:09.600 --> 0:09:10.360 At the right time. 0:09:10.840 --> 0:09:14.280 When I remember that, that reminds me that God is 0:09:14.320 --> 0:09:17.640 in control of my life. That reminds me that God 0:09:17.760 --> 0:09:20.520 has me in the palm of his hand. That lets 0:09:20.600 --> 0:09:23.520 me know if God was directed my steps back then, 0:09:24.000 --> 0:09:26.319 you know what God has directed my steps even today. 0:09:27.040 --> 0:09:29.760 To see when we learn to recall the good things 0:09:29.840 --> 0:09:33.080 God has done, helps us to stay in an attitude 0:09:33.080 --> 0:09:36.160 of faith, helps us to stay grateful. I mean, it's 0:09:36.240 --> 0:09:39.800 hard to go around complaining when you're constantly thinking about 0:09:40.000 --> 0:09:41.160 how good God's been to you. 0:09:41.720 --> 0:09:44.040 It's hard to get negative and to get off. 0:09:43.960 --> 0:09:47.800 Into unbelieve when you're always talking about God's blessings and 0:09:47.920 --> 0:09:50.720 favor in your life. Well, hell, Joel, if God would 0:09:50.760 --> 0:09:52.520 do something like that for me, if he'd bring me 0:09:52.600 --> 0:09:54.000 a beautiful wife, and he'd. 0:09:53.840 --> 0:09:54.920 Bring me somebody great. 0:09:55.480 --> 0:09:57.800 No, God has done something for every one of us. 0:09:58.400 --> 0:10:01.480 Most of the time, we to go back and remember 0:10:01.640 --> 0:10:04.439 where we came from. Some of you, at one point 0:10:04.520 --> 0:10:07.800 you were so negative. You were living all depressed and defeated. 0:10:08.080 --> 0:10:10.199 But look at you today, you're rising higher. 0:10:10.520 --> 0:10:12.840 You know you are a victor and not a victim. 0:10:13.559 --> 0:10:15.240 Some of you at one. 0:10:15.160 --> 0:10:18.319 Point you were so broke you couldn't even pay attention. 0:10:19.760 --> 0:10:23.240 But look at you now. You're prospering, you're increasing, You've. 0:10:23.120 --> 0:10:29.120 Got a good job. Some of you, years ago, you 0:10:29.280 --> 0:10:32.160 had all kinds of addictions, in bad habits. 0:10:32.360 --> 0:10:35.559 You were strung out on this bad attitude, hot tempered, 0:10:35.840 --> 0:10:38.079 but God supernaturally delivered you. 0:10:38.160 --> 0:10:39.480 Today, you're healthy and whole. 0:10:39.880 --> 0:10:43.400 You need to remember how God sets you free, remember 0:10:43.520 --> 0:10:46.920 where you came from. That's one of the best ways 0:10:47.000 --> 0:10:49.480 to keep yourself encouraged. And you may not be as 0:10:49.520 --> 0:10:52.000 far down the road as you would like, but when 0:10:52.040 --> 0:10:54.360 you look back and remember, at least you can say, Hey, God, 0:10:54.640 --> 0:10:56.760 you brought me this far. I know you're not gonna 0:10:56.760 --> 0:10:58.760 stop now, You're gonna get me to where I need 0:10:58.840 --> 0:11:02.920 to be. I believe every one of us today can 0:11:03.000 --> 0:11:06.480 tell of a time when God supernaturally protected us. You 0:11:06.600 --> 0:11:09.240 can tell of a time when God opened up a 0:11:09.360 --> 0:11:11.679 door for you. God caused you to be at the 0:11:11.760 --> 0:11:14.320 right place at the right time. And sometimes we take 0:11:14.400 --> 0:11:17.439 these things for granted. Some people don't even realize that 0:11:17.600 --> 0:11:20.040 was God at work and in their life. We need 0:11:20.120 --> 0:11:24.199 to understand there's no such thing as a coincidence. When 0:11:24.240 --> 0:11:26.080 something good happens to you, be. 0:11:26.280 --> 0:11:30.640 Sensitive, recognize that's God. Learn to recall it. Often. It's 0:11:30.720 --> 0:11:31.720 like that guy I heard about. 0:11:32.080 --> 0:11:35.559 He was driving around and around in a crowded parking 0:11:35.640 --> 0:11:38.440 lot trying to find a parking space, and he finally 0:11:38.520 --> 0:11:41.040 got so frustrated he said, God, if you will give 0:11:41.120 --> 0:11:44.520 me a parking space. I'll come to church every Sunday. 0:11:45.040 --> 0:11:48.199 Right then, immediately this car backed out on the front row. 0:11:48.240 --> 0:11:48.760 He pulled in. 0:11:49.240 --> 0:11:51.800 Then he said, God, never mind, I just found one. 0:11:54.080 --> 0:11:58.880 Too often, that's what we do. We forget. God is 0:11:58.960 --> 0:12:01.839 the giver of all good things. God is the one 0:12:01.920 --> 0:12:04.080 that caused us to get that quote, Lucky Brad. 0:12:04.400 --> 0:12:06.120 He's the one that caused us to be at the 0:12:06.200 --> 0:12:10.319 right place at the right time. How many times have 0:12:10.520 --> 0:12:13.480 we been driving on the freeway and we said to ourself, Man, 0:12:13.600 --> 0:12:16.120 that car almost hit me now the split second and 0:12:16.160 --> 0:12:17.200 I would have had an accident. 0:12:17.559 --> 0:12:20.800 That wasn't a coincidence. That was God's hand of protection. 0:12:21.559 --> 0:12:23.839 I know one time, right after I had gotten married, 0:12:23.960 --> 0:12:26.439 I was driving on the freeway by myself. It was 0:12:26.480 --> 0:12:29.240 a Monday afternoon. It had been raining really hard for 0:12:29.360 --> 0:12:32.280 fifteen or twenty minutes. When I went to change lanes 0:12:32.440 --> 0:12:35.199 my car hydroplane. There was a big puddle in the 0:12:35.320 --> 0:12:38.559 road and my front tires lost traction and I was 0:12:38.679 --> 0:12:41.439 driving in the second lane from the left, and when 0:12:41.440 --> 0:12:44.240 I lost control, I was headed straight toward the concrete 0:12:44.320 --> 0:12:47.680 barrier in the center and I hit that thing going 0:12:47.720 --> 0:12:50.720 about fifty miles per hour really hard, and when I did, 0:12:50.960 --> 0:12:54.360 it catapulted me back, spinning across the freeway. 0:12:54.960 --> 0:12:57.040 And let me tell you, I didn't have time to pray. 0:12:57.840 --> 0:12:58.320 I didn't have. 0:12:58.400 --> 0:13:01.559 Time to quote the ninety first song. I didn't have 0:13:01.679 --> 0:13:03.959 time to call the twenty four hour prayer hot line. 0:13:04.559 --> 0:13:09.920 All I had time to say was Jesus, Just simply Jesus, and. 0:13:09.960 --> 0:13:13.800 I'll never forget. As I was spinning back. 0:13:13.720 --> 0:13:16.679 Across that freeway, I came to a point where I 0:13:16.840 --> 0:13:19.280 was looking at the headlights of this eighteen wheeler. 0:13:19.640 --> 0:13:21.320 I mean I was facing the wrong direction. 0:13:21.679 --> 0:13:23.679 It looked like I could reach out and touch his 0:13:23.800 --> 0:13:25.760 front grill couldn't have been five or six feet away, 0:13:25.800 --> 0:13:27.400 and I just kind of closed my eyes. 0:13:27.440 --> 0:13:28.360 I kind of thought that was it. 0:13:29.080 --> 0:13:32.160 But somehow, someway, I ended up in the ditch on 0:13:32.240 --> 0:13:35.000 the other side of the freeway. I had crossed six 0:13:35.160 --> 0:13:38.480 lanes of traffic during rush hour in Houston, Texas, and 0:13:38.600 --> 0:13:44.319 nobody had ran into me. Well after I got stopped 0:13:44.360 --> 0:13:46.600 over there, I noticed that this eighteen wheeler, the man 0:13:46.640 --> 0:13:48.440 that almost hit me, he had pulled over and now 0:13:48.520 --> 0:13:51.000 he was backing up. Took him about ten minutes to 0:13:51.080 --> 0:13:53.959 get back to where I was. The gentleman finally got out. 0:13:54.280 --> 0:13:56.959 The first thing he said was, boy, you must be 0:13:57.080 --> 0:13:57.760 living right. 0:14:00.120 --> 0:14:01.880 Kind of laughed. I said, what do you mean? He said, 0:14:01.880 --> 0:14:02.839 I don't know how I missed you. 0:14:03.360 --> 0:14:05.920 You were right in front of me, and I tried 0:14:06.000 --> 0:14:08.840 to swerve, but my rig is fully loaded. I couldn't 0:14:08.880 --> 0:14:10.920 do it, and so I just braced myself and got 0:14:11.000 --> 0:14:11.920 ready for the collision. 0:14:12.320 --> 0:14:13.719 And he said, I know this sounds. 0:14:13.520 --> 0:14:16.360 Kind of odd, but right at the last moment, I 0:14:16.480 --> 0:14:20.720 felt this pocket of wind push me into the other land. Now, 0:14:20.760 --> 0:14:25.160 I thought to myself, you know he's calling it a 0:14:25.280 --> 0:14:28.160 pocket of wind, but I know that's the Angel of 0:14:28.240 --> 0:14:28.600 the Lord. 0:14:29.040 --> 0:14:30.560 That's God's end of protection. 0:14:32.960 --> 0:14:36.240 That's another memorial stone that I can put out in 0:14:36.360 --> 0:14:38.800 my life. I know, if it were not for the 0:14:38.880 --> 0:14:42.000 goodness of God, I might not be here today, could 0:14:42.000 --> 0:14:44.480 have been killed, could have been crippled. But once again 0:14:45.000 --> 0:14:47.560 God showed up and made a way when it looked 0:14:47.600 --> 0:14:50.160 like there was no way. I don't take that for granted. 0:14:50.400 --> 0:14:53.120 I remember the great things God has done in my life, 0:14:53.640 --> 0:14:55.920 and I love how in the Old Testament they. 0:14:56.040 --> 0:14:57.600 Celebrated their victories. 0:14:58.000 --> 0:15:01.280 They had these big feasts, they had damned and music 0:15:01.440 --> 0:15:05.320 and singing these festivals. Can you imagine today you're having 0:15:05.360 --> 0:15:06.800 a big party at your house. 0:15:07.320 --> 0:15:09.400 Music is going, everybody is having fun. 0:15:09.720 --> 0:15:11.960 One of your neighbors comes over, he says, hey, what 0:15:12.120 --> 0:15:15.560 kind of party you have in Super Bowl party, waiting party, 0:15:15.680 --> 0:15:18.600 birthday party. You tell them, no, we're just celebrating what 0:15:18.760 --> 0:15:21.920 God has done. Five years ago, he spared my life 0:15:21.960 --> 0:15:23.920 in an accident, we're having a party. 0:15:25.000 --> 0:15:26.480 Or maybe ten years ago. 0:15:26.640 --> 0:15:29.280 God set me free from so many addictions, so we're 0:15:29.320 --> 0:15:32.800 just celebrating it tonight. Or how about twenty five years ago, 0:15:33.200 --> 0:15:35.960 God healed my mother of terminal cancer, so we're just 0:15:36.040 --> 0:15:37.600 taking this time to thank him. 0:15:37.680 --> 0:15:41.440 Right now, a lot of people today they're partying. But 0:15:41.600 --> 0:15:42.560 we need to learn to. 0:15:42.720 --> 0:15:45.360 Celebrate the great things God has done in our lives. 0:15:45.800 --> 0:15:49.080 When we really learn to focus on God's goodness, we'll 0:15:49.120 --> 0:15:51.680 get up each morning with a smile on our face, 0:15:51.880 --> 0:15:54.600 a spring in our staff. We'll go through that day 0:15:54.760 --> 0:15:58.720 full of praise, full of thanksgiving. My father used to 0:15:58.800 --> 0:16:02.480 tell about this old country farmer. He was always shouting 0:16:02.640 --> 0:16:06.520 and rejoicing, just had that song of thanksgiving coming out 0:16:06.560 --> 0:16:08.920 of his heart. He was kind of a radical praiser 0:16:09.320 --> 0:16:11.920 like some people I know, and his friends were always 0:16:11.960 --> 0:16:14.480 giving him a hard time about why he was so 0:16:14.680 --> 0:16:17.880 happy and why he was always smiling. One day, he 0:16:18.040 --> 0:16:21.000 was out walking with his mule, and those friends came 0:16:21.120 --> 0:16:23.480 up and they say, hey, we just can't figure you out. 0:16:23.760 --> 0:16:25.880 You never look like you're in a bad mood. You're 0:16:25.960 --> 0:16:28.400 never down and depressed, You're always so happy. 0:16:28.480 --> 0:16:30.560 What is it with you? He said, let me tell 0:16:30.560 --> 0:16:31.240 you what it is. 0:16:31.880 --> 0:16:36.000 Years ago, I was an alcoholic, had so many addictions, 0:16:36.520 --> 0:16:39.640 messed up in my marriage. My kids wouldn't talk to me, 0:16:39.800 --> 0:16:42.720 no joy, no peace. But one day I got down 0:16:42.800 --> 0:16:44.800 on my knees and I asked God to help me, 0:16:45.360 --> 0:16:46.160 and little by. 0:16:46.160 --> 0:16:50.120 Little, he began to change me. He broke the addictions. 0:16:49.640 --> 0:16:52.840 Off my life, He restored my marriage, gave me a 0:16:52.920 --> 0:16:55.480 new sense of purpose, filled me with his joy and 0:16:55.560 --> 0:16:58.560 his peace. And today I'm free, I'm happy, I'm whole. 0:16:59.200 --> 0:17:02.800 The more he talked about it, the more excited he got. Finally, 0:17:02.880 --> 0:17:05.359 he said, guys, God's done so much for me. I 0:17:05.480 --> 0:17:06.440 just can't keep quiet. 0:17:06.560 --> 0:17:07.600 Will you do me a favor? 0:17:07.800 --> 0:17:12.240 Hold my mule while I shout, And really, that's the 0:17:12.320 --> 0:17:15.400 way we need to be when we think about all 0:17:15.560 --> 0:17:19.200 God's done. We think about his goodness and mercy, think 0:17:19.240 --> 0:17:22.600 about how He's healed us, restored us, guided us. Our 0:17:22.640 --> 0:17:25.280 attitude should be I just can't keep quiet. Will you 0:17:25.359 --> 0:17:26.040 hold my chevy? 0:17:26.119 --> 0:17:26.239 Why? 0:17:26.240 --> 0:17:26.720 I shout? 0:17:28.119 --> 0:17:30.639 And I realize we all face obstacles in life. But 0:17:30.720 --> 0:17:33.440 what I'm saying today is one of the things that 0:17:33.600 --> 0:17:36.600 helps us to get past the difficulties is we go 0:17:36.800 --> 0:17:39.680 back and we remember the great things God has done. 0:17:40.040 --> 0:17:41.639 That's a key to staying in faith. 0:17:42.000 --> 0:17:46.400 Remember your victories, remember your successes, Remember how God turned 0:17:46.400 --> 0:17:49.080 it around. And know this, if God did it for 0:17:49.200 --> 0:17:51.439 you once, he'll do it for you again. We might 0:17:51.480 --> 0:17:54.119 as well be happy today. I believe every one of 0:17:54.240 --> 0:17:57.000 us can look back in life and we can testify 0:17:57.359 --> 0:18:00.280 to the faithfulness of God. You may have been through 0:18:00.320 --> 0:18:03.680 difficult times, but you can say with me, I'm still standing, 0:18:03.960 --> 0:18:06.120 I've still got a smile on my face, I'm still 0:18:06.200 --> 0:18:10.480 excited about my future. Most every one of us, we 0:18:10.600 --> 0:18:12.639 would not be here if it were not for the 0:18:12.760 --> 0:18:15.600 goodness of God. And I'm asking you to get your 0:18:15.680 --> 0:18:20.000 memorial stones out today. Learn to recall often how God 0:18:20.080 --> 0:18:24.000 has blessed you, guided you, protected you, led you, healed you. 0:18:24.440 --> 0:18:27.040 In fact, the scripture tells us we should be so 0:18:27.320 --> 0:18:31.440 filled with gratitude that we tell these things to our children, 0:18:31.840 --> 0:18:33.080 to our grandchildren. 0:18:33.320 --> 0:18:35.800 We're supposed to pass down the goodness of God. 0:18:36.440 --> 0:18:38.800 In other words, you call your children in, you say, 0:18:38.840 --> 0:18:42.119 in effect, this memorial stone is for when God spared 0:18:42.160 --> 0:18:44.400 my life on the freeway. This is for when God 0:18:44.560 --> 0:18:47.000 healed my mother. This is for when God called my 0:18:47.280 --> 0:18:50.600 father to preach, lifted him out of mediocrity, did something. 0:18:50.359 --> 0:18:53.760 Great with his life. What are you remembering today? What 0:18:53.920 --> 0:18:57.000 kind of memorial stones do you have out Some people 0:18:57.160 --> 0:19:02.600 choose to only remember the pain, appointments, the heartaches. They're failures. 0:19:02.800 --> 0:19:05.800 They're always focused on the negative. All joyled. 0:19:05.840 --> 0:19:10.400 It's so hard, my back's hurting, child's off course, dishwasher broke, 0:19:10.520 --> 0:19:11.360 dog's depressed. 0:19:13.040 --> 0:19:15.040 No quit dwelling on that junk. It's only going to 0:19:15.119 --> 0:19:16.080 make you more depressed. 0:19:16.600 --> 0:19:19.680 Start thinking about all the times that God brought you through. 0:19:20.400 --> 0:19:22.920 Think about that time where you were so tired and 0:19:23.080 --> 0:19:25.119 worn out you didn't think you could go on. 0:19:25.680 --> 0:19:29.119 But God renewed your strength, restored your vision, gave you 0:19:29.160 --> 0:19:29.920 a new beginning. 0:19:30.000 --> 0:19:31.800 You are today still going strong. 0:19:32.520 --> 0:19:34.800 Think about the time it didn't look like your plan 0:19:34.960 --> 0:19:37.040 was going to work out, didn't look like you'd get 0:19:37.080 --> 0:19:39.400 that new position, or maybe it didn't look like you'd 0:19:39.480 --> 0:19:41.720 qualify for that new home. But all of a sudden, 0:19:41.760 --> 0:19:44.600 God intervened. He showed you his favor. People went out 0:19:44.640 --> 0:19:47.000 of their way to help you. Everything fell into place. 0:19:47.480 --> 0:19:50.440 Don't take that for granted. It may happened ten years ago. 0:19:50.560 --> 0:19:53.760 That's okay. Recall it often, well, Joel. 0:19:53.560 --> 0:19:55.960 If God would just do something big in my life, no, 0:19:56.080 --> 0:19:58.320 if you're not choosing to do it now, then no 0:19:58.440 --> 0:20:00.760 matter what God does, you will find and some excuse 0:20:00.840 --> 0:20:03.360 not to do it. That's what the children of Israel did. 0:20:03.560 --> 0:20:07.200 God did so much for them. He supernaturally brought them 0:20:07.600 --> 0:20:11.280 out of slavery. He sent plague after pledge on their enemies. 0:20:11.680 --> 0:20:14.240 An amazing thing was they were living right among them. 0:20:14.359 --> 0:20:18.080 Those plagues never bothered them. God eventually brought them out, 0:20:18.560 --> 0:20:21.800 delivered them from years of bondage and abuse. And as 0:20:21.840 --> 0:20:24.200 they were leaving, you know the story, they came to 0:20:24.320 --> 0:20:27.640 a dead end at the Red Sea. Pharaoh changed his mind. 0:20:27.680 --> 0:20:30.440 He was chasing after them. They looked as good as dead, 0:20:30.520 --> 0:20:34.040 looked pretty hopeless. But God supernaturally parted the Red Sea, 0:20:34.520 --> 0:20:37.680 drowned their enemies. Now they're headed toward the Promised Land. 0:20:38.480 --> 0:20:41.840 You would think they would be so grateful, so excited, 0:20:41.960 --> 0:20:45.280 so full of faith. But what's amazing to me is 0:20:45.359 --> 0:20:49.080 how quickly they got discouraged, how quickly they started complaining. 0:20:49.480 --> 0:20:52.680 It wasn't any time before they were saying, Moses, what 0:20:52.760 --> 0:20:54.480 are we going to eat out here? What are we 0:20:54.520 --> 0:20:57.359 going to drink? There's not any food. We're in the wilderness. 0:20:57.400 --> 0:21:01.000 We may starve to death. And you would think, since 0:21:01.040 --> 0:21:03.639 they just saw God part the Red Sea, they just 0:21:03.720 --> 0:21:07.399 saw miracle after miracle, surely they would be convinced that 0:21:07.520 --> 0:21:09.520 God was going to take care of them. You know, 0:21:09.600 --> 0:21:13.080 their problem, they forgot what God had done. They were 0:21:13.119 --> 0:21:16.680 so busy focused on their present problems. They forgot about 0:21:16.760 --> 0:21:19.879 all the miraculous things that God had done in the past. 0:21:20.240 --> 0:21:22.320 And it's one of the few times in the Bible 0:21:22.560 --> 0:21:26.200 where it talks about God getting angry. Notice God didn't 0:21:26.240 --> 0:21:28.920 get angry at a bunch of sinners. He got angry 0:21:29.119 --> 0:21:32.000 at people that took for granted his goodness. He got 0:21:32.080 --> 0:21:34.960 angry at people that were not being grateful for what 0:21:35.040 --> 0:21:37.960 He had done. I don't know about you, But no 0:21:38.080 --> 0:21:41.960 matter what comes my way in life, instead of complaining 0:21:42.040 --> 0:21:44.840 about it, instead of thinking, well, I'll probably never get 0:21:44.880 --> 0:21:47.359 out of debt, I'll probably never get out of this mess. 0:21:47.359 --> 0:21:49.600 I don't see how my dreams are gonna come to pass. No, 0:21:49.720 --> 0:21:52.760 instead of doing that, I'm gonna go back and remember 0:21:52.920 --> 0:21:55.800 all the red seas that God has parted in my life. 0:21:56.080 --> 0:21:59.120 I'm gonna remember how God spared my life on the freeway. 0:22:00.000 --> 0:22:02.359 I'm gonna remember how God gave me a beautiful wife. 0:22:02.840 --> 0:22:05.880 I will remember how God healed my mother. I will 0:22:05.960 --> 0:22:09.920 remember how against all odds, God gave us this beautiful facility, 0:22:10.119 --> 0:22:13.600 the Compact Center. Let's remember what God has done. Let's 0:22:13.640 --> 0:22:16.240 don't do like they did. We have to make a decision. 0:22:16.480 --> 0:22:18.240 We're going to recall the good. 0:22:18.160 --> 0:22:19.919 Things God's done in our lives. 0:22:20.640 --> 0:22:20.720 Now. 0:22:20.720 --> 0:22:23.840 I would encourage you to keep a notebook, something like 0:22:23.920 --> 0:22:26.879 a diary or a journal. And when something happens that 0:22:27.000 --> 0:22:29.920 you know is God. You know God opened up a door. 0:22:30.359 --> 0:22:33.040 You know God spared your life, or you know God 0:22:33.200 --> 0:22:35.760 spoke to you. You were down and God quickened the scripture, 0:22:36.040 --> 0:22:37.080 lifted your spirits. 0:22:37.520 --> 0:22:40.480 Will write that down. It would do us all good 0:22:40.920 --> 0:22:42.159 to have a record of the. 0:22:42.240 --> 0:22:44.639 Good things that God has done for us, and I 0:22:44.760 --> 0:22:46.639 found if you don't write it down, it's very easy 0:22:46.720 --> 0:22:49.080 to forget it. I know the other day I was 0:22:49.200 --> 0:22:52.360 in the lobby talking to a gentleman. He was explaining 0:22:52.440 --> 0:22:56.639 this certain situation and he said one particular phrase that 0:22:56.840 --> 0:23:00.560 gave me clear insight. It gave me clear direction. He 0:23:00.640 --> 0:23:03.280 didn't even realize he had said it. I didn't make 0:23:03.320 --> 0:23:05.240 a big deal about it, but on the inside, it 0:23:05.359 --> 0:23:07.280 was like a bomb went off. I knew that was 0:23:07.359 --> 0:23:10.160 God speaking to me, giving me the answer that I needed. 0:23:10.359 --> 0:23:12.240 And so I went home and I wrote it down. 0:23:12.760 --> 0:23:15.560 I thought, here's another example of how God has directing 0:23:15.640 --> 0:23:16.200 my steps. 0:23:16.960 --> 0:23:17.640 Over the years. 0:23:17.720 --> 0:23:20.760 I've had several dreams at night that I knew were 0:23:20.800 --> 0:23:23.440 from God. When I got up the next morning, first 0:23:23.480 --> 0:23:25.800 thing I did, typed it out, put it away in 0:23:25.920 --> 0:23:28.760 my files. I don't want to forget that. Fifty years 0:23:28.800 --> 0:23:31.280 from now, I'll pass it down to my grandchildren. It's 0:23:31.320 --> 0:23:34.200 another way of saying, here's something that God is doing 0:23:34.440 --> 0:23:37.560 in our family life. And it may not always be 0:23:37.720 --> 0:23:40.760 something big, just something little, but you know it's God. 0:23:40.880 --> 0:23:44.040 You bump into somebody, they introduce you to another person, 0:23:44.119 --> 0:23:46.200 and that leads to you getting a new client. 0:23:46.520 --> 0:23:47.200 Write that down. 0:23:47.800 --> 0:23:50.520 Maybe you're driving down the freeway, see a billboard and 0:23:50.560 --> 0:23:52.520 you get an idea. You take it to the office, 0:23:52.920 --> 0:23:56.200 they like it. It leads to a promotion. Recognize that's 0:23:56.280 --> 0:23:59.159 God at work in your life. Write that down, and 0:23:59.280 --> 0:24:01.240 then on a red getter basis, you need to get 0:24:01.280 --> 0:24:05.040 that notebook out and read about all the great things 0:24:05.160 --> 0:24:06.280 God has done in your life. 0:24:06.680 --> 0:24:08.320 You're talking about encouraging you. 0:24:08.960 --> 0:24:11.440 When you start reading about how God opened up this 0:24:11.640 --> 0:24:15.280 door for you, protected you over here, restored you here, 0:24:15.680 --> 0:24:16.400 healed you there. 0:24:16.720 --> 0:24:18.119 That's going to build your faith. 0:24:18.800 --> 0:24:22.600 Learn to meditate on these good things, and especially in 0:24:22.720 --> 0:24:27.080 our times of difficulty, especially when we're tempted to get discouraged, 0:24:27.320 --> 0:24:29.440 we need to get that notebook out and read it 0:24:29.560 --> 0:24:32.840 again and again and again, get it deep down on 0:24:32.920 --> 0:24:35.360 the inside of you. If you do that, you will 0:24:35.440 --> 0:24:38.200 not go through the day discouraged and defeated. You will 0:24:38.280 --> 0:24:40.359 know that you know that, you know that God is 0:24:40.440 --> 0:24:42.440 in control of your life. He's got you in the 0:24:42.520 --> 0:24:44.480 palm of his hand, and he's going to bring you 0:24:44.600 --> 0:24:46.919 through with the victory. And this is what they did 0:24:47.000 --> 0:24:50.120 back in the Old Testament. You remember how they used 0:24:50.119 --> 0:24:53.960 to always carry around their staff. Really, that staff was 0:24:54.080 --> 0:24:55.280 more than a walking stick. 0:24:55.680 --> 0:24:56.520 It was more than just. 0:24:56.560 --> 0:24:59.920 Something to keep the wild animals away. Back in those days, 0:25:00.560 --> 0:25:03.640 they were a nomadic people. They were always on the move, 0:25:04.160 --> 0:25:06.280 and of course they didn't have paper and files and 0:25:06.359 --> 0:25:09.199 computers like we have today. And one of the ways 0:25:09.359 --> 0:25:13.399 they kept important records and important events is that they 0:25:13.440 --> 0:25:15.439 would carve that on their staff. 0:25:15.480 --> 0:25:18.399 They would etch it in there. That was their personal record. 0:25:18.880 --> 0:25:20.040 For instance, on this. 0:25:20.240 --> 0:25:23.720 Date, we defeated the Amalekites. On this date, my son 0:25:23.920 --> 0:25:26.680 was born. On this date, God gave us water out 0:25:26.720 --> 0:25:29.680 of a rock. On this date, God delivered us out 0:25:29.720 --> 0:25:33.880 of bondage. Their staff was literally a record of their. 0:25:33.960 --> 0:25:34.880 History with God. 0:25:35.560 --> 0:25:37.560 Think about when Moses parted the Red Sea. 0:25:37.800 --> 0:25:39.719 What did he do? He held up his staff. 0:25:40.280 --> 0:25:42.680 He was saying, God, I thank you for all you've 0:25:42.720 --> 0:25:45.119 done in the past, and I hold this staff up, 0:25:45.200 --> 0:25:49.040 remembering how time and time again you've delivered us supernaturally. 0:25:49.119 --> 0:25:50.480 You've worked in our lives. 0:25:50.200 --> 0:25:51.600 And we just thank you that you're going to do 0:25:51.680 --> 0:25:54.880 it again. They were remembering the good things God had done. 0:25:55.280 --> 0:25:58.439 That staff was kind of like their journal. You remember 0:25:58.480 --> 0:26:01.720 when David went to face Galaphath. He didn't just take 0:26:02.240 --> 0:26:05.280 a slingshot and some stones. The Bible says he took 0:26:05.320 --> 0:26:09.800 his staff. Why because his staff had his history with God. 0:26:10.520 --> 0:26:13.439 No doubt on that staff he had exed ind there. 0:26:13.840 --> 0:26:17.119 On this date, I killed a lion with my bare hands. 0:26:17.320 --> 0:26:18.520 God gave me that victory. 0:26:18.800 --> 0:26:21.600 On this date, I killed a bear all by myself. 0:26:22.280 --> 0:26:25.040 When he went to face Goliath, he made sure he 0:26:25.119 --> 0:26:28.160 took his staff because that reminded him how much God 0:26:28.200 --> 0:26:28.840 had helped him. 0:26:28.720 --> 0:26:29.240 In the past. 0:26:29.680 --> 0:26:31.640 And I can imagine just before he went out to fight, 0:26:31.880 --> 0:26:35.000 he read over it one more time. His attitude was, God, 0:26:35.119 --> 0:26:37.119 you did it for me back then, and I know 0:26:37.200 --> 0:26:38.520 you're gonna do it for me now. 0:26:39.160 --> 0:26:41.320 And some of you today you need to get your 0:26:41.359 --> 0:26:41.960 staff out. 0:26:42.320 --> 0:26:45.480 You're facing some big obstacles in your life, and instead 0:26:45.480 --> 0:26:48.480 of sitting around getting depressed wondering how it's ever gonna 0:26:48.520 --> 0:26:49.919 work out, you need to. 0:26:49.920 --> 0:26:53.800 Start meditating on how far God's already brought you. Start 0:26:53.920 --> 0:26:55.640 dwelling on your victories. 0:26:55.440 --> 0:26:58.560 Start thinking about the times you've killed the lion in the. 0:26:58.600 --> 0:27:01.359 Bear, so to speak, in your own life now. I 0:27:01.400 --> 0:27:01.680 don't know. 0:27:01.800 --> 0:27:03.960 Maybe there were a few lines that David didn't kill. 0:27:04.520 --> 0:27:05.840 Maybe there were a few bears that. 0:27:05.880 --> 0:27:06.760 Got the best of him. 0:27:07.119 --> 0:27:10.000 But you notice he wasn't talking about it. He wasn't 0:27:10.040 --> 0:27:12.840 sitting around thinking, oh, yeah, Golia, it's pretty big. And 0:27:12.960 --> 0:27:16.159 one day I did get beat up by Josiah's sister. No, 0:27:16.359 --> 0:27:19.359 his mind wasn't focused on that. He was focused on 0:27:19.520 --> 0:27:22.760 his victories. He was meditating on how God had helped 0:27:22.800 --> 0:27:25.159 him in the past. You know the story he went 0:27:25.200 --> 0:27:28.399 out there and defeated Goliath, and I'm sure it's that 0:27:28.600 --> 0:27:29.240 in his staff. 0:27:29.280 --> 0:27:30.439 He put that in his journal. 0:27:30.640 --> 0:27:32.720 Here's another thing that God has helped me to do. 0:27:33.520 --> 0:27:36.240 I want to encourage you today to get your staff out. 0:27:36.880 --> 0:27:39.399 Start remembering the great things that God has done in 0:27:39.480 --> 0:27:41.920 your life. You may not be as far as you 0:27:41.920 --> 0:27:44.000 would like, but when you look back, you need to 0:27:44.040 --> 0:27:47.960 remember how God has led you, protected you, promoted you, 0:27:48.320 --> 0:27:50.000 increased you all along the way. 0:27:50.359 --> 0:27:51.520 Don't take that for granted. 0:27:52.200 --> 0:27:55.120 When something good happens, you know it's from God. Write 0:27:55.160 --> 0:27:57.879 it down and then get that book out again and 0:27:58.000 --> 0:28:01.280 again and again. Read over that, meditate on it, get 0:28:01.320 --> 0:28:04.840 it deep down on the inside. Friends, there's power in 0:28:05.000 --> 0:28:08.320 remembery and if you'll use your memory for the right purposes. 0:28:08.560 --> 0:28:12.880 To recall your victories, recall your successes, recall what God 0:28:12.960 --> 0:28:13.360 has done. 0:28:13.560 --> 0:28:16.400 Then that's gonna build your faith no matter what comes 0:28:16.440 --> 0:28:17.280 against you in life. 0:28:17.440 --> 0:28:20.000 Just like David, you'll rise above it. You'll know if 0:28:20.040 --> 0:28:22.200 God did it for you once, he'll do it for 0:28:22.359 --> 0:28:26.040 you again. Amen. Do you receive it today?
