And 0:02:16.000 --> 0:02:19.080 I heard about this blonde lady. She was trying to 0:02:19.120 --> 0:02:22.160 get to sleep one night, but her next door neighbor's 0:02:22.280 --> 0:02:25.680 dogs were barking so loud she could She finally had 0:02:25.720 --> 0:02:27.919 had enough. She got up and told her husband she's 0:02:27.960 --> 0:02:30.400 going to go do something about it. She came back 0:02:30.440 --> 0:02:33.240 a few minutes later and the dogs were barking louder 0:02:33.280 --> 0:02:36.200 than ever. He said, what did you do? She said, 0:02:36.240 --> 0:02:38.919 I put the dogs in our backyard. Let's just see 0:02:38.960 --> 0:02:43.400 how they like it. All right, hold it up, say 0:02:43.440 --> 0:02:46.560 it like you mean it. This is my Bible. I 0:02:46.600 --> 0:02:47.440 am what it says. 0:02:47.440 --> 0:02:47.760 I am. 0:02:48.280 --> 0:02:50.720 I have what it says I have. I can do 0:02:50.800 --> 0:02:53.240 what it says I can do. Today I will be 0:02:53.320 --> 0:02:57.239 taught the word of God. I boldly confess. My mind 0:02:57.320 --> 0:03:00.399 is alert, my heart is receptive. I will will never 0:03:00.480 --> 0:03:04.880 be the same. In Jesus' name, God bless you. I 0:03:04.919 --> 0:03:07.640 want to talk to you today about the healing power 0:03:07.800 --> 0:03:11.160 of laughter. A lot of the sickness in our world 0:03:11.360 --> 0:03:14.240 is simply because we don't have the joy that we should. 0:03:15.000 --> 0:03:20.520 When we live uptight and on edge, causes headaches, digestive problems, 0:03:20.960 --> 0:03:24.639 lack of energy, we don't sleep well. Much of this 0:03:24.880 --> 0:03:27.519 would go away if we just learned how to deal 0:03:27.560 --> 0:03:30.720 with the stress properly. And one of the greatest stress 0:03:30.760 --> 0:03:36.200 relievers God's given us is laughter. Laughter is like taking medicine. 0:03:36.640 --> 0:03:39.520 It not only makes you feel better, but it actually 0:03:39.600 --> 0:03:44.560 releases healing throughout your system. When we laugh, it restores 0:03:44.720 --> 0:03:48.279 and rejuvenates what the pressures of life have taken out. 0:03:48.760 --> 0:03:51.720 Most people today don't laugh as much as they should. 0:03:52.280 --> 0:03:55.120 They don't take time to play. They're too stressed to 0:03:55.160 --> 0:03:57.920 have any fun. We need to get back in balance. 0:03:58.440 --> 0:04:01.520 Life is not supposed to be all work and no play. 0:04:02.000 --> 0:04:04.840 You need to develop your sense of humor. Look for 0:04:04.960 --> 0:04:08.120 opportunities to laugh. Now, you say, Joel, I'm just not 0:04:08.560 --> 0:04:11.440 a real jovial person. I'm more serious. I never laughed 0:04:11.440 --> 0:04:14.840 that much. Now realize God made us all different, But 0:04:14.920 --> 0:04:18.280 you can train yourself to laugh more. Now I read 0:04:18.320 --> 0:04:22.400 where the average child laughs over two hundred times a day. 0:04:23.040 --> 0:04:26.040 But the average adult only laughs four times a day. 0:04:26.680 --> 0:04:32.159 What's happened? We've allowed the pressures of life, stress, more responsibilities, 0:04:32.320 --> 0:04:35.120 little by little to steal our joy. And some of 0:04:35.160 --> 0:04:38.080 you today you have not had a good, hearty laugh 0:04:38.200 --> 0:04:42.080 in twenty seven years. Your laugher is rusted and needs 0:04:42.080 --> 0:04:45.360 to be overhauled. You don't know how much better you 0:04:45.400 --> 0:04:47.719 would feel. You don't know how much more energy you'd 0:04:47.720 --> 0:04:50.640 have if you'd make a decision. You're just gonna lighten 0:04:50.720 --> 0:04:54.040 up and learn to laugh more often. Not once a month, 0:04:54.120 --> 0:04:57.360 not once a week, but every single day. Don't ever 0:04:57.480 --> 0:05:01.280 lose the child that's on the inside. Just because we 0:05:01.320 --> 0:05:04.520 get older doesn't mean we're supposed to get all solemn 0:05:04.600 --> 0:05:07.200 to where we never have any fun. We borderline on 0:05:07.279 --> 0:05:11.400 being grumpy. No, every healthy adult needs to have a 0:05:11.480 --> 0:05:14.000 child on the inside. You need to know how to work, 0:05:14.200 --> 0:05:16.480 but you also need to know how to play. You 0:05:16.520 --> 0:05:19.320 need to remember to have fun. I think about my 0:05:19.440 --> 0:05:22.159 father when he was seventy five years old. He would 0:05:22.240 --> 0:05:24.839 still laugh and kid just like he did when he 0:05:24.920 --> 0:05:28.400 was twenty years old. He was responsible, he was serious, 0:05:28.640 --> 0:05:31.240 but he knew how to have fun. One time we 0:05:31.240 --> 0:05:34.320 were in Mexico walking down the main street of this 0:05:34.360 --> 0:05:37.719 little town, and these American tourists came up to my father, 0:05:38.120 --> 0:05:40.400 a husband and a wife, and they were looking for 0:05:40.480 --> 0:05:43.640 the post office. They couldn't find anybody to speak English. 0:05:43.880 --> 0:05:46.760 They thought, well, we finally found somebody that looked like us, 0:05:47.120 --> 0:05:49.400 and they said to my father, do you know where 0:05:49.400 --> 0:05:52.600 the post office is? My dad looked at them real strange. 0:05:52.680 --> 0:06:00.840 He said, no comprende, No comprende, espigol amigo. They thought, oh, 0:06:00.920 --> 0:06:05.039 now he speaks Spanish too, so they said it real dramatically. 0:06:05.520 --> 0:06:11.040 Post office. Daddy shook his head, No comprende. They got frustrated, 0:06:11.080 --> 0:06:16.640 said it even more dramatically, post office mail a letter. 0:06:16.960 --> 0:06:21.880 Daddy brightened up and said post office. They got real excited. Yes, yes, 0:06:22.000 --> 0:06:25.160 post office, Daddy said. If you're looking for, the post 0:06:25.200 --> 0:06:30.240 office is right around the corner. That man said, boy, 0:06:30.400 --> 0:06:35.120 I ought to whoop. You don't ever lose the child 0:06:35.360 --> 0:06:39.200 on the inside. It is healthy to have fun. I 0:06:39.279 --> 0:06:42.160 read where one of the common ingredients in people that 0:06:42.240 --> 0:06:45.839 live way up into their nineties wasn't their exercise routine, 0:06:46.160 --> 0:06:48.400 wasn't their diet. It was the fact that they were 0:06:48.480 --> 0:06:53.080 extremely joyful people. They never forgot how to laugh. I 0:06:53.120 --> 0:06:56.320 met a lady in the visitor's line a few years 0:06:56.320 --> 0:06:59.520 ago after service. She was ninety six years old and 0:06:59.600 --> 0:07:02.880 is healthy as can be. Her mind was sharp, her 0:07:02.920 --> 0:07:06.320 skin was beautiful, her eyes were bright. But what stuck 0:07:06.320 --> 0:07:09.520 out to me was how happy she was. She knew 0:07:09.600 --> 0:07:13.440 no stranger. Everybody was her best friend. She was hugging 0:07:13.560 --> 0:07:15.600 all the people in the line. I mean, she was 0:07:15.600 --> 0:07:18.160 a breath of fresh air. And she was wearing this 0:07:18.280 --> 0:07:22.720 real bright, colorful, kind of fancy dress. After we talked, 0:07:22.760 --> 0:07:25.280 I hugged her, and as I was leaving, I just said, 0:07:25.280 --> 0:07:28.480 in passing, I believe when I'm ninety six years old, 0:07:28.560 --> 0:07:31.520 I'm gonna look just like you. She leaned over and 0:07:31.520 --> 0:07:37.200 whispered in my ear. Just don't wear the dress. I thought, No, wonder, 0:07:37.280 --> 0:07:40.280 she's so healthy, she still has a sense of humor, 0:07:40.680 --> 0:07:43.480 she still knows how to laugh. And think about all 0:07:43.560 --> 0:07:47.400 those years of healing flowing through her body. I realize 0:07:47.440 --> 0:07:50.080 we're all gonna get older, eventually, we're all gonna die. 0:07:50.320 --> 0:07:52.560 But I've made up my mind I'm not gonna die 0:07:52.640 --> 0:07:55.200 a grumpy old man. I'm not gonna get more and 0:07:55.240 --> 0:07:58.200 more sour the older I get I'm gonna stay full 0:07:58.240 --> 0:08:02.600 of joy. When it's my time to go, I'm gonna 0:08:02.640 --> 0:08:04.920 go with a smile on my face, a laugh in 0:08:04.960 --> 0:08:09.600 my heart, and a joke in my pocket. Doctor Stuart 0:08:09.640 --> 0:08:12.679 Brown is the founder of the National Institute of Play. 0:08:13.240 --> 0:08:16.640 He became interested in the effects of laughter and play 0:08:16.760 --> 0:08:19.920 in our lives when the governor of Texas asked him 0:08:19.920 --> 0:08:22.880 to investigate the tower shootings there on the campus of 0:08:22.920 --> 0:08:26.400 the University of Texas. This was back in nineteen sixty six. 0:08:26.800 --> 0:08:29.200 And as he talked with this troubled young man that 0:08:29.240 --> 0:08:32.439 had killed all these people, one thing that stuck out 0:08:32.880 --> 0:08:35.560 was this young man had never played as a child. 0:08:36.200 --> 0:08:39.080 He grew up in such a dysfunctional home. He could 0:08:39.120 --> 0:08:43.360 never remember ever laughing or even playing. Doctor Brown went 0:08:43.400 --> 0:08:46.560 on to investigate the other inmates on death row in 0:08:46.600 --> 0:08:49.680 Texas that year, and he discovered not one of them 0:08:49.920 --> 0:08:52.960 had a normal childhood. Not one of them could ever 0:08:53.000 --> 0:08:57.280 remember laughing, playing, or having a good time. Doctor Brown 0:08:57.360 --> 0:09:02.199 concludes today, the opposite of play isn't work, it's depression. 0:09:02.880 --> 0:09:06.600 What's he saying. It's healthy to laugh, it's healthy to 0:09:06.679 --> 0:09:10.000 have fun. Proverbs seventeen twenty two puts it like this, 0:09:10.440 --> 0:09:13.960 a happy heart is like a good medicine, and a 0:09:14.120 --> 0:09:18.760 cheerful mind works healing. Notice when we're good natured and 0:09:18.800 --> 0:09:22.120 full of joy, taking time to laugh, taking time to play, 0:09:22.600 --> 0:09:26.040 it's like taking a good medicine. That's what helps us 0:09:26.120 --> 0:09:30.400 to stay healthy. In fact, medical science tells us that 0:09:30.559 --> 0:09:35.760 people that laugh it boosts their immune system. Laughter reduces 0:09:35.880 --> 0:09:40.520 blood pressure. People that laugh regularly are forty percent less 0:09:40.679 --> 0:09:43.080 likely to have a heart attack than people that don't 0:09:43.120 --> 0:09:47.080 laugh regularly. Laughter triggers the right side of the brain, 0:09:47.559 --> 0:09:51.520 which helps release creativity helps us to make better decisions. 0:09:52.200 --> 0:09:57.079 Laughter activates the body's natural tranquilizers that not only help 0:09:57.160 --> 0:09:59.880 us to calm down, but it helps us to sleep better. 0:10:00.679 --> 0:10:04.400 Many people today suffer from insomnia. Maybe you need to 0:10:04.440 --> 0:10:07.720 laugh more often. That's what this one lady did. She 0:10:07.760 --> 0:10:10.440 hadn't slept well in years and years, and she was 0:10:10.480 --> 0:10:14.560 constantly taking tranquilizers. She'd taken them so long it hardly 0:10:14.600 --> 0:10:19.760 even affected her anymore. She'd tried everything, different diets, different doctors, 0:10:19.800 --> 0:10:23.400 different medicines. Nothing seemed to work. But this one doctor 0:10:23.480 --> 0:10:27.040 gave her a very unusual prescription. He said, every night, 0:10:27.080 --> 0:10:29.840 before you go to bed, you need to watch something funny, 0:10:30.120 --> 0:10:33.680 a funny movie, a funny video, a funny drama, something 0:10:33.720 --> 0:10:37.040 that makes you laugh. She started doing that night after night, 0:10:37.559 --> 0:10:41.280 month after month. She got better and better. Today she's 0:10:41.320 --> 0:10:44.720 totally off her medications. She can sleep like a baby. 0:10:45.360 --> 0:10:49.160 What happened? She was having to take men made tranquilizers 0:10:49.640 --> 0:10:53.920 because she wasn't releasing the natural tranquilizers that God put 0:10:53.960 --> 0:10:57.120 on the inside. Could it be that you would receive 0:10:57.200 --> 0:10:59.840 the healing you've been longing for if you just like 0:10:59.880 --> 0:11:02.920 me up and learned to laugh more often? Could it 0:11:02.960 --> 0:11:07.960 be that the headaches, backaches, migraines, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, 0:11:08.200 --> 0:11:12.040 even depression would go away if we just take time 0:11:12.440 --> 0:11:16.040 to play, to laugh, to enjoy the life God's given us. 0:11:16.880 --> 0:11:20.079 It's interesting. When my mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer 0:11:20.120 --> 0:11:22.439 in nineteen eighty one, this is one of the things 0:11:22.440 --> 0:11:26.000 that she did during the day. Instead of going to bed, 0:11:26.440 --> 0:11:29.120 instead of sitting around feeling sorry for herself, thinking about 0:11:29.120 --> 0:11:33.600 her problems, she would go in and watch cartoons on television. 0:11:33.960 --> 0:11:37.160 She would sit there and laugh and laugh. What was 0:11:37.200 --> 0:11:40.679 she doing? She was releasing the healing that God put 0:11:40.760 --> 0:11:44.199 on the inside. She couldn't find something funny to watch. 0:11:44.360 --> 0:11:46.439 She'd just go look at my brother Paul. That always 0:11:46.480 --> 0:11:51.800 made her laugh. There's too much sickness in our world today. 0:11:52.559 --> 0:11:56.040 Much of it is related to the sadness. It's directly 0:11:56.200 --> 0:11:58.680 related to the fact that we don't smile enough. We 0:11:58.760 --> 0:12:03.000 live uptight and st stout what's happening. There's a healing 0:12:03.120 --> 0:12:07.360 power that we're not tapping into. There's a medicine available, 0:12:07.880 --> 0:12:11.599 a cure that's completely free, It has no side effects. 0:12:11.840 --> 0:12:14.199 You can take it as often as you'd like. I'm 0:12:14.200 --> 0:12:18.240 gonna give you a prescription today. Every day, at least 0:12:18.240 --> 0:12:22.840 three times, find something funny that makes you laugh out loud. 0:12:23.640 --> 0:12:25.640 Not a laugh on the inside, not a chuckle down 0:12:25.640 --> 0:12:29.480 in here, No release that joy out loud. Release those 0:12:29.679 --> 0:12:34.480 endorphins on the inside. Activate your natural tranquilizers. Every time 0:12:34.520 --> 0:12:37.600 you laugh. It boosts your immune system, it reduces your 0:12:37.600 --> 0:12:42.400 blood pressure. Tension is leaving, and creativity is coming. If 0:12:42.440 --> 0:12:45.720 you'll stay on this prescription and laugh every day with 0:12:45.800 --> 0:12:49.360 a happy heart, having a cheerful mind, then you're gonna 0:12:49.360 --> 0:12:53.120 sleep better, You're gonna get more done, You'll have more energy, 0:12:53.520 --> 0:12:56.400 you're gonna make better decisions, You'll be more creative. I 0:12:56.440 --> 0:13:00.280 believe even some of these areas of chronic pain, chronic fatigue, 0:13:00.400 --> 0:13:03.240 you'll begin to see them go away. Have a good 0:13:03.280 --> 0:13:06.400 friend that's a doctor. He told how this lady came 0:13:06.440 --> 0:13:09.400 in that has a severe case of fibrom my algia. 0:13:09.720 --> 0:13:12.880 It's very painful. She would spend hours a day in 0:13:12.920 --> 0:13:17.040 bed suffering. She had chronic fatigue, no energy. She was 0:13:17.080 --> 0:13:20.720 in poor health, both physically and emotionally. She'd gone through 0:13:20.760 --> 0:13:25.160 tough times and lived a basically very depressed life, and 0:13:25.200 --> 0:13:28.320 the doctor gave her medication to treat the pain, but 0:13:28.679 --> 0:13:31.079 he knew that was only dealing with the symptoms and 0:13:31.120 --> 0:13:34.080 not the root cause. After he talked with her a while, 0:13:34.320 --> 0:13:38.240 he realized just how depressed she was. He asked her 0:13:38.280 --> 0:13:41.840 a very interesting question. He said, how long has it 0:13:41.920 --> 0:13:46.319 been since you've had a good, hearty laugh. The lady 0:13:46.320 --> 0:13:49.000 thought about it in a moment. She said, doctor, I 0:13:49.040 --> 0:13:52.200 haven't laughed like that in over thirty years, since I 0:13:52.240 --> 0:13:55.280 was a child. He said, well, here's your prescription. You 0:13:55.360 --> 0:13:58.360 need to go find every funny movie you can watch, 0:13:58.760 --> 0:14:01.800 go find every funny book you can read, and laugh 0:14:02.000 --> 0:14:05.319 as much as you possibly can. She began to do 0:14:05.480 --> 0:14:09.040 just that, instead of sitting around feeling sorry for herself. 0:14:09.320 --> 0:14:12.719 She began to laugh. Little by little, she got her 0:14:12.840 --> 0:14:16.280 joy back. Every day she would laugh more and more, 0:14:16.600 --> 0:14:20.400 she started feeling better. The pain began to subside, she 0:14:20.480 --> 0:14:23.960 got her energy back. Three months later, she went back 0:14:24.000 --> 0:14:26.840 to the doctor for her checko. He said, the moment 0:14:26.960 --> 0:14:30.440 she walked in, he could tell something was different. There 0:14:30.520 --> 0:14:33.440 was a sparkle in her eye, a spring in her step, 0:14:33.720 --> 0:14:37.240 a smile on her face. She said, doctor, I've never 0:14:37.320 --> 0:14:40.960 felt so good in all of my life. Month after month, 0:14:41.280 --> 0:14:45.520 as she continued to relearn how to laugh, eventually all 0:14:45.600 --> 0:14:49.640 those diseases left her body. Friends, there is healing power 0:14:49.760 --> 0:14:53.720 in laughter. When you have a joyful spirit constantly on 0:14:53.760 --> 0:14:57.680 the inside, health and healing are flowing. Let me ask 0:14:57.760 --> 0:15:00.840 you what the doctor asked her. How long has it 0:15:00.920 --> 0:15:04.480 been since you've had a good, hearty laugh A day, 0:15:04.720 --> 0:15:08.240 a week, a month, a year, ten years. Make sure 0:15:08.360 --> 0:15:11.360 you're taking your medicine. I know when I've had a 0:15:11.400 --> 0:15:15.880 hard day and I feel pressured and uptight, it causes 0:15:15.920 --> 0:15:18.320 me to have a backache right down the center of 0:15:18.360 --> 0:15:20.640 my spine. I can feel this pain and I know 0:15:20.720 --> 0:15:23.200 it's just from tension. Now I do just what I'm 0:15:23.240 --> 0:15:25.680 asking you to do. I'll go play with my children. 0:15:25.840 --> 0:15:28.760 They always make me laugh, or I'll watch something funny 0:15:28.800 --> 0:15:33.240 on television. Invariably, after a few minutes of laughing, that 0:15:33.360 --> 0:15:36.280 pain is totally gone. It's just like I had a 0:15:36.320 --> 0:15:40.720 good massage, but it was a lot cheaper. The medicine 0:15:40.760 --> 0:15:43.320 I'm talking about today can save you a lot of money. 0:15:43.840 --> 0:15:47.360 It can save you from buying sleeping pills and tranquilizers 0:15:47.400 --> 0:15:53.520 and antidepressant Laughter releases the body's natural medicines. It cannot 0:15:53.520 --> 0:15:58.640 only bring physical healing, but laughter will help strengthen our relationships. 0:15:59.400 --> 0:16:02.960 The other day, I walked into our bedroom. Victoria was 0:16:03.040 --> 0:16:05.960 over in the corner reading something with her back to me, 0:16:06.440 --> 0:16:08.680 and I'd got home a lot earlier than i'd planned, 0:16:08.720 --> 0:16:11.600 and I realized when I walked in that she didn't 0:16:11.720 --> 0:16:14.440 hear me come in there. I debated whether I would 0:16:14.440 --> 0:16:16.560 say something, but I thought I would startle her. So 0:16:16.640 --> 0:16:18.920 I thought I'd just let her naturally turn around. Maybe 0:16:18.920 --> 0:16:21.400 that would be better, but it was just the opposite. 0:16:21.480 --> 0:16:24.560 About that time she turned around, and when she saw me, 0:16:25.000 --> 0:16:28.480 she must have jumped this high in the air. I 0:16:28.520 --> 0:16:31.840 know they say white people can't jump, but she got up. 0:16:33.960 --> 0:16:37.160 I could not help it. I began to laugh and 0:16:37.360 --> 0:16:43.280 laugh and laugh. The problem was she wasn't laughing. I 0:16:43.360 --> 0:16:45.440 tried to stop. I tried to zip it up, but 0:16:45.480 --> 0:16:48.360 the harder I tried, the funnier it hit me, and 0:16:48.440 --> 0:16:52.360 the louder I laughed. After a minute or so of 0:16:52.600 --> 0:16:56.320 her watching me laugh, she began to laugh. I finally 0:16:56.320 --> 0:16:58.680 got over it. I was done laughing, but I couldn't 0:16:58.680 --> 0:17:02.880 stop her from laughing. Friends, it is great to have 0:17:02.960 --> 0:17:06.439 laughter in your home. One thing the enemy cannot stand 0:17:06.760 --> 0:17:09.879 is the sound of you laughing. He cannot stand the 0:17:09.960 --> 0:17:14.719 sound of husbands and wives, family members having fun together. 0:17:16.359 --> 0:17:19.320 He wants there to be so much strife and tension 0:17:19.400 --> 0:17:22.480 and pressure that we never have any joy in our home. 0:17:22.960 --> 0:17:25.960 Don't fall into that trap. It's one thing I appreciate 0:17:26.000 --> 0:17:29.879 about Victoria. She loves to laugh. She keeps a fun 0:17:29.920 --> 0:17:34.000 atmosphere in our home. When Victoria laughs, she doesn't laugh 0:17:34.040 --> 0:17:38.000 to herself, she doesn't laugh under her breath. When she laughs, 0:17:38.119 --> 0:17:41.359 it fills the whole house with joy. Do you know 0:17:41.600 --> 0:17:44.919 laughter is contagious. I can be sitting back in the 0:17:45.000 --> 0:17:48.199 back of the house, minding my own business, watching television, 0:17:48.400 --> 0:17:51.879 but I'll hear her laughing and laughing. Before long, I 0:17:51.960 --> 0:17:55.919 find myself laughing just because she's laughing. I finally have 0:17:55.960 --> 0:17:58.439 to go in and find out what's so funny. The 0:17:58.520 --> 0:18:00.679 other week she was just laughing and so much, and 0:18:00.720 --> 0:18:03.120 so I went in and she had found a picture 0:18:03.200 --> 0:18:05.800 of our son Jonathan, when he was just a little baby, 0:18:05.840 --> 0:18:08.680 maybe six or eight months old. I'd forgotten about it, 0:18:08.840 --> 0:18:12.119 but we had put a wig on him with sunglasses. 0:18:12.240 --> 0:18:16.879 It looked like a little baby Elvis. We laugh so hard. Listen. 0:18:17.040 --> 0:18:20.359 The family that can laugh together is a family that 0:18:20.440 --> 0:18:24.880 will stay together. Victoria and I have been married. We've 0:18:24.880 --> 0:18:27.920 been married going on twenty two years. People always ask 0:18:28.000 --> 0:18:31.000 us what's the secret of a healthy marriage. We always 0:18:31.040 --> 0:18:34.680 tell him two things. Number one, respect, always be respectful, 0:18:34.720 --> 0:18:37.960 even when you disagree, be respectful. And number two laughter, 0:18:38.520 --> 0:18:42.600 don't ever stop laughing together. Keep your home fun. Some 0:18:42.640 --> 0:18:45.280 of you today, you would see your relationship go to 0:18:45.400 --> 0:18:47.679 a new level if you'd get some joy back in 0:18:47.760 --> 0:18:51.440 the home. You've allowed the pressures of life, the water 0:18:51.520 --> 0:18:54.640 that's already under the bridge to sow where your outlook 0:18:54.640 --> 0:18:57.480 about that other person, But you need to remember the 0:18:57.560 --> 0:19:01.159 reason why you fell in love. Remember the things you 0:19:01.280 --> 0:19:03.440 used to do together, how you used to have fun 0:19:03.520 --> 0:19:06.480 and laugh. If you would bring that joy back into 0:19:06.520 --> 0:19:09.440 the home, you would see a freshness, a new life 0:19:09.480 --> 0:19:12.520 in your relationship. That's what some friends of mine did. 0:19:12.840 --> 0:19:15.800 They were struggling in their marriage, and they were good people. 0:19:16.200 --> 0:19:17.920 They loved each other, but they just had a lot 0:19:17.920 --> 0:19:20.120 of pressure and a lot of issues that had been 0:19:20.119 --> 0:19:23.320 pulling them apart. They decided to take one night a 0:19:23.320 --> 0:19:26.439 week and go rent a funny movie and watch it together. 0:19:26.960 --> 0:19:30.040 They sat there and laughed and laughed and laughed. They 0:19:30.119 --> 0:19:34.199 told how something so simple had a major impact. It 0:19:34.400 --> 0:19:37.800 changed the atmosphere of their home, brought a newness into 0:19:37.840 --> 0:19:41.919 their relationship. If you can laugh together, it'll help you 0:19:41.960 --> 0:19:46.400 to stay together. Laughter not only reduces tension, but when 0:19:46.440 --> 0:19:50.199 you're full of joy, it draws people to you. Laughter 0:19:50.359 --> 0:19:53.800 helps bring down the walls. You can meet a total stranger, 0:19:54.000 --> 0:19:56.960 but if you ever laughed together, the defenses come down. 0:19:57.880 --> 0:20:00.639 I found that when we're good nature, we know how 0:20:00.680 --> 0:20:03.520 to laugh, where friendly, we smile, you're going to see 0:20:03.520 --> 0:20:06.600 more of God's favor. I was at an airline en 0:20:06.640 --> 0:20:09.200 counter a few years ago and I needed to change 0:20:09.200 --> 0:20:11.880 my tickets we'd moved our departure date up a couple 0:20:11.920 --> 0:20:13.720 of days, and I already knew it was going to 0:20:13.760 --> 0:20:16.320 cost a couple hundred extra dollars. So I handed the 0:20:16.359 --> 0:20:18.800 lady my tickets and told her what I needed to do. 0:20:19.240 --> 0:20:21.560 She said, well, that's going to be fifty dollars extra 0:20:21.640 --> 0:20:24.040 per ticket, and I kind of laughed. I said, yeah, 0:20:24.160 --> 0:20:26.959 I know, somebody already told me that. She looked at 0:20:27.000 --> 0:20:30.280 me so strange. She said, why are you laughing? Why 0:20:30.320 --> 0:20:32.520 are you so happy? I didn't even know I did it. 0:20:32.560 --> 0:20:33.760 I said, I don't know. I guess I'm just a 0:20:33.800 --> 0:20:36.000 happy person. Well, she went to work and a few 0:20:36.040 --> 0:20:39.120 seconds later she handed me my tickets back. She said, 0:20:39.119 --> 0:20:41.840 I'm not going to charge you anything extra. We need 0:20:41.920 --> 0:20:46.680 more happy people around here. The rest of that day 0:20:47.760 --> 0:20:50.880 I went around smiling and laughing at everybody I saw. 0:20:52.560 --> 0:20:56.320 Being joyful draws people to you, But when we're all 0:20:56.440 --> 0:21:00.120 serious and all work and no play, this pushes people away. 0:21:00.400 --> 0:21:04.359 Here's another key. Be willing to laugh at yourself. Don't 0:21:04.400 --> 0:21:08.680 be so up tight and stiff and defensive, insecure that 0:21:08.800 --> 0:21:11.439 if you do something kind of dumb, or you make 0:21:11.480 --> 0:21:14.000 a mistake that you can't laugh about it. I remember 0:21:14.040 --> 0:21:16.480 when we first moved into this building, they gave me 0:21:16.520 --> 0:21:18.600 a key to the back door where we park. It 0:21:18.640 --> 0:21:23.119 was a very strange looking key. It was small, oblong, 0:21:23.240 --> 0:21:26.399 kind of fat plastic. I'd never seen anything like it before. 0:21:26.920 --> 0:21:29.359 I got to the door and I tried and tried 0:21:29.400 --> 0:21:31.480 to figure out how to get it in, but there 0:21:31.520 --> 0:21:33.480 was no place to put it, and I was sticking 0:21:33.520 --> 0:21:35.479 it up to the door knob, kind of jiggling around, 0:21:35.640 --> 0:21:38.320 thinking maybe something would pop out, but I just couldn't 0:21:38.359 --> 0:21:40.960 get it to work. Finally, I had to go get 0:21:40.960 --> 0:21:43.320 the security guard after about ten minutes, and I told 0:21:43.400 --> 0:21:45.639 him what I was doing and how I'd been doing it, 0:21:45.640 --> 0:21:47.080 and he said, well, Joel, let me just come over 0:21:47.119 --> 0:21:49.000 there and show you how to do it. So he 0:21:49.040 --> 0:21:51.560 took my key. When he got to the door, he 0:21:51.640 --> 0:21:54.240 reached up to the side of it and touched an 0:21:54.240 --> 0:21:57.440 electronic panel. I didn't even know what that was up there, 0:21:57.720 --> 0:22:00.240 And when he touched the panel, the door automatically open. 0:22:00.880 --> 0:22:03.680 And when he realized what I had been doing, trying 0:22:03.720 --> 0:22:05.720 to take this thing up here and put it in 0:22:05.760 --> 0:22:09.439 the doorknob, he began to laugh and laugh and laugh. 0:22:10.520 --> 0:22:13.160 And at first I wasn't sure, I was going to laugh. 0:22:14.840 --> 0:22:18.520 I had to pray about it. She've heard that saying, 0:22:18.600 --> 0:22:21.560 if you can't beat them, join them. I finally thought 0:22:21.560 --> 0:22:23.679 that was pretty dumb, so I started laughing with him 0:22:24.920 --> 0:22:27.320 a few years ago, right before I came up to minister, 0:22:27.680 --> 0:22:29.879 Victoria told me that my hair was sticking up in 0:22:29.920 --> 0:22:32.119 the back and I needed to go spray it with 0:22:32.160 --> 0:22:35.440 some hairspray. I said, okay, where's the hairspray. She said, 0:22:35.480 --> 0:22:37.879 it's in the bathroom back there on the shelf, in 0:22:37.920 --> 0:22:40.239 a red can. And so I ran back there as 0:22:40.240 --> 0:22:42.040 fast as I could, and I found it and I 0:22:42.119 --> 0:22:45.280 sprayed and sprayed and sprayed. But that hairspray would not 0:22:45.400 --> 0:22:47.600 keep my hair down, so I sprayed it more and more. 0:22:48.000 --> 0:22:50.720 Well after the service, Victoria said, Joel, why didn't you 0:22:50.720 --> 0:22:53.560 spray your hair? It was still sticking up. I said, Victoria, 0:22:53.640 --> 0:22:56.600 I did spray, but that hairspray you gave me doesn't work. 0:22:56.640 --> 0:22:58.800 I sprayed and sprayed. She said, well, show me what 0:22:58.840 --> 0:23:00.639 you used. I went in there and god out. She 0:23:00.720 --> 0:23:02.960 looked at it and said, Joel, this isn't hairspray, this 0:23:03.080 --> 0:23:12.480 is air freshener. I just smiled. I said, you know what, 0:23:12.600 --> 0:23:17.320 I got the best smelling hair around. Do you know 0:23:17.720 --> 0:23:21.680 every time you've laughed today, you've gotten healthier. Every time 0:23:21.720 --> 0:23:27.040 you've laughed, you've gotten stronger, even though you've done it 0:23:27.040 --> 0:23:31.560 at my expense. But have you noticed these days people 0:23:31.640 --> 0:23:35.360 are so uptight they can't laugh with their children. They're 0:23:35.359 --> 0:23:38.320 too stressed, Joel, I can't lighten up and have fun. 0:23:38.840 --> 0:23:41.920 Have you seen the news reports? These are troubling times. No, 0:23:42.040 --> 0:23:45.440 it's just the opposite. The more difficult it is, the 0:23:45.440 --> 0:23:48.560 more we need to activate our joy, the more pressure, 0:23:48.640 --> 0:23:51.959 the more we need to look for opportunities to laugh. Today, 0:23:52.080 --> 0:23:55.560 every other minute you hear doom and gloom. It's gonna 0:23:55.560 --> 0:23:57.800 be so bad. It's gonna get much much worse. You 0:23:57.880 --> 0:24:00.920 probably won't make it. If we're not careful, we'll fall 0:24:00.920 --> 0:24:03.879 into that trap of thinking, this is no time to 0:24:03.960 --> 0:24:06.879 enjoy my life. This is certainly no time to laugh, 0:24:07.240 --> 0:24:09.720 no time to have a sense of humor. But now 0:24:09.760 --> 0:24:13.080 more than ever, you need to activate your joy. In fact, 0:24:13.200 --> 0:24:16.199 it says in Joe five point twenty two, at destruction 0:24:16.680 --> 0:24:20.520 in famine, we should laugh. That doesn't seem to make sense. 0:24:20.840 --> 0:24:23.520 You mean, we're supposed to laugh at famine we're supposed 0:24:23.560 --> 0:24:28.159 to laugh in difficulties. That's exactly right. It's because in 0:24:28.240 --> 0:24:31.600 tough times that's when it's easiest to lose your joy. 0:24:32.320 --> 0:24:35.440 When you lose your joy, you lose your strength. When 0:24:35.480 --> 0:24:38.280 you don't have strength, you'll drag through the day defeated. 0:24:38.800 --> 0:24:42.640 When you're not strong, you'll catch diseases that you shouldn't have. 0:24:43.280 --> 0:24:46.439 Your immune system is run down. You're tired, you're worried, 0:24:46.480 --> 0:24:50.760 you're worn out. God says, I've got a solution in difficulties. 0:24:51.000 --> 0:24:55.520 Cheer up, infamine, laugh, keep your joy. Friends. I believe 0:24:55.760 --> 0:24:58.359 you can laugh your way to victory. You can laugh 0:24:58.400 --> 0:25:00.600 your way to better health. You can half your way 0:25:00.720 --> 0:25:04.560 to more energy. It says in Psalms two four that 0:25:04.640 --> 0:25:08.280 God sits in the heavens and laughs. Can you get 0:25:08.280 --> 0:25:11.199 a picture of that? Right now? God is on the throne. 0:25:11.720 --> 0:25:15.880 He's not mad, he's not worried about the economy, he's 0:25:15.920 --> 0:25:18.959 not upset with you and me. What's he doing? God's 0:25:19.000 --> 0:25:22.399 laughing on the throne full of joy. Goes on to 0:25:22.440 --> 0:25:26.000 tell us in Psalm thirty seven why he's laughing because 0:25:26.040 --> 0:25:30.359 he can see the destruction of the enemy coming. In 0:25:30.400 --> 0:25:33.120 other words, the reason God laughs is because he knows 0:25:33.160 --> 0:25:36.080 the end of the story. He knows the final outcome. 0:25:36.480 --> 0:25:39.720 The good news is you and I win. God always 0:25:39.800 --> 0:25:45.119 causes us to triumph. It's just like we are in 0:25:45.200 --> 0:25:48.920 a fixed fight. Imagine you're gonna watch the super Bowl, 0:25:49.080 --> 0:25:52.240 but you already know the outcome. You already know who's 0:25:52.280 --> 0:25:55.600 going to win. No matter how far behind the winning 0:25:55.600 --> 0:25:58.200 team falls, no matter how bad it looked for them, 0:25:58.280 --> 0:26:01.920 you wouldn't get upset, wouldn't be worried. Why you've got 0:26:01.960 --> 0:26:06.400 inside information. You know the final outcome. That's what God 0:26:06.440 --> 0:26:09.640 is saying. When it gets tough and things don't look 0:26:09.680 --> 0:26:12.959 like they're gonna work out, we can laugh by faith 0:26:13.440 --> 0:26:16.800 knowing that God has already written the final chapter. God 0:26:16.840 --> 0:26:20.639 has already recorded the victory in your favor. He's saying, 0:26:21.000 --> 0:26:23.800 in famine, when it gets tough, you need to look 0:26:23.800 --> 0:26:26.240 that trouble in the face and say, ha ha ha, 0:26:26.840 --> 0:26:29.920 I know the outcome. God has destined me to win. 0:26:30.359 --> 0:26:33.240 He's already got the roses for my neck. He's already 0:26:33.240 --> 0:26:36.800 seen me standing on the Winter's circle. What are we saying? 0:26:37.200 --> 0:26:40.280 God is supplying all of my needs, He's healing all 0:26:40.280 --> 0:26:43.600 of my diseases, He's fighting my battles for me. He's 0:26:43.680 --> 0:26:47.639 my vindicator, my waymaker, my deliverer. He's given me the 0:26:47.640 --> 0:26:51.440 desires of my heart. This is what Abraham did. God 0:26:51.480 --> 0:26:53.280 gave him a promise that he was going to have 0:26:53.440 --> 0:26:56.960 a child in the natural. It was impossible, he was 0:26:57.040 --> 0:26:59.960 much too old. But the first thing he did was laugh. 0:27:00.600 --> 0:27:04.520 It was the laugh of faith. He said, in effect, Haha, God, 0:27:04.560 --> 0:27:06.600 I know you can bring this to pass. I know 0:27:06.680 --> 0:27:10.560 you're a supernatural God. And so often when God puts 0:27:10.600 --> 0:27:14.520 a promise in our heart, it looks impossible. Maybe you're 0:27:14.560 --> 0:27:17.320 sick and you know God's told you you're gonna be well. 0:27:17.520 --> 0:27:20.639 You're coming out of that. Are you're struggling financially for 0:27:20.760 --> 0:27:23.840 God's saying you're coming into overflow. He's gonna prosper you. 0:27:24.359 --> 0:27:27.320 Perhaps your family is pulled apart, God's saying he's going 0:27:27.359 --> 0:27:30.200 to bring him back together. Our minds so often will 0:27:30.200 --> 0:27:33.160 tell us it's never gonna happen. You're never gonna get well, 0:27:33.480 --> 0:27:35.879 never gonna get out of death, never see your dreams 0:27:35.920 --> 0:27:38.679 come to fulfillment. But if we could just remember to 0:27:38.720 --> 0:27:41.920 do like Abraham, no matter how we feel, no matter 0:27:41.960 --> 0:27:43.960 how bad it looks, we need to let out the 0:27:44.040 --> 0:27:48.399 laugh of faith and just say, haha, I've got inside information. 0:27:48.960 --> 0:27:51.520 I know God has already worked it out. He's already 0:27:51.600 --> 0:27:54.239 arranged things in my favor. It's just a matter of 0:27:54.280 --> 0:27:58.399 time before these promises come to pass. We can laugh 0:27:58.520 --> 0:28:00.800 by faith knowing that we're you're in a fixed fight. 0:28:01.840 --> 0:28:04.719 I'm asking you today to get in a habit of 0:28:04.760 --> 0:28:09.400 taking your medicine on a regular basis every day. Find 0:28:09.520 --> 0:28:12.880 some reason to laugh. Look for opportunities. If you don't 0:28:12.880 --> 0:28:15.000 think you have a reason, then just know you can 0:28:15.119 --> 0:28:18.160 laugh by faith. Remember, you gotta stir up the joy, 0:28:18.200 --> 0:28:21.159 stir up the healing that's on the inside. Some of 0:28:21.200 --> 0:28:24.119 you have been living uptight and stressed, but I believe 0:28:24.160 --> 0:28:27.200 today is gonna be a turning point. Make a decision 0:28:27.440 --> 0:28:30.760 that you're gonna lighten up and start laughing more often. Yes, 0:28:30.840 --> 0:28:33.560 you can be responsible, but at the same time, you 0:28:33.600 --> 0:28:36.119 can be good natured. It is healthy to laugh, it's 0:28:36.200 --> 0:28:38.560 healthy to have fun. And if you'll make it a 0:28:38.600 --> 0:28:41.960 priority to laugh every single day and keep a happy 0:28:42.000 --> 0:28:44.840 heart a cheerful mind, you're not only going to enjoy 0:28:44.880 --> 0:28:47.840 your life more, but you're gonna see healing flow through you. 0:28:48.000 --> 0:28:51.280 In a new way. You're gonna get free from chronic illnesses, 0:28:51.520 --> 0:28:54.520 chronic fatigue, chronic things that have been holding you back. 0:28:54.800 --> 0:28:57.080 You're gonna see your relationships go to a new level. 0:28:57.320 --> 0:28:59.760 God's gonna pour out his favor in a greater way. 0:29:00.040 --> 0:29:03.560 And just like with Abraham, every promise, every dream, every desire, 0:29:03.560 --> 0:29:06.680 God's put in your heart, no matter how impossible it looks. 0:29:06.920 --> 0:29:09.760 I believe and declare, You're gonna see God bring it 0:29:09.800 --> 0:29:14.080 to pass. Amen. Do you receive it today? Well, we 0:29:14.200 --> 0:29:16.760 never like to close our broadcast without giving you an 0:29:16.760 --> 0:29:19.920 opportunity to make Jesus the lord of your life.
