Jesus does this cool thing, he changes the 0:11:35.720 --> 0:11:40.199 name of his chief apostle. But that hasn't happened yet. 0:11:40.200 --> 0:11:44.240 At this point in the story, he's still Simon, and 0:11:44.320 --> 0:11:49.360 so he's called Simon. The name from Simeon means he heard. 0:11:50.559 --> 0:11:54.079 And yet in all of the passage, it's very interesting 0:11:54.200 --> 0:11:57.880 because Jesus and Simon, who would later be known as 0:11:57.920 --> 0:12:01.960 Peter are communicating without saying a whole lot of words. 0:12:02.920 --> 0:12:05.120 They each only say a sentence, but their life is 0:12:05.160 --> 0:12:09.120 completely altered. That's what the literal 0:15:54.960 --> 0:16:00.720 name kinnereth means which is appropriate because Jesus is standing 0:16:00.840 --> 0:16:04.840 by the sea, which will be the scene of the 0:16:04.880 --> 0:16:10.000 greatest demonstrations of his power. In scripture, it wasn't just 0:16:10.040 --> 0:16:15.240 a body of water. It was for him a classroom, 0:16:15.560 --> 0:16:20.760 a faith. He had an advantage over me in preaching one, 0:16:20.800 --> 0:16:25.600 He's Jesus. Two, he had nature as a backdrop to 0:16:25.680 --> 0:16:29.680 illustrate and to validate his words. So when I teach 0:16:29.720 --> 0:16:32.040 you about a storm, you've got a padded chair in 0:16:32.080 --> 0:16:35.840 an air conditioned room, climate controlled to we keep it 0:16:35.840 --> 0:16:39.400 cold here fifty nine degrees. We do that to keep 0:16:39.400 --> 0:16:45.520 you awake. But Jesus, I think that the fact that 0:16:45.560 --> 0:16:50.720 he was standing by the sea of Galilee, the shape 0:16:50.800 --> 0:16:55.520 like a harp, is an indication that this body of 0:16:55.560 --> 0:16:59.160 water would be an instrument in the hands of the 0:16:59.200 --> 0:17:03.440 master teacher to give the lessons that his disciples would 0:17:03.480 --> 0:17:06.960 need after he had left them in the body, to 0:17:07.080 --> 0:17:11.000 carry on with the task of spreading the gospel. It's 0:17:11.080 --> 0:17:14.359 much more effective to teach about how to change a 0:17:14.359 --> 0:17:18.920 flat tire if you have one right now. It's much 0:17:18.960 --> 0:17:21.840 more effective to teach about how to survive a storm 0:17:22.240 --> 0:17:25.800 if you're going through one right now. So when Jesus 0:17:25.800 --> 0:17:30.040 taught his disciples about faith, it was not a doctrinal seminar. 0:17:30.760 --> 0:17:34.119 It was not a the false uh what fear is 0:17:34.160 --> 0:17:37.240 false evidence appearing real or whatever the acronym is. So when they learned 0:17:43.080 --> 0:17:46.040 the lesson of faith, it was against the backdrop of 0:17:46.080 --> 0:17:49.840 their greatest fear. He was standing by the lake. Peter 0:17:49.920 --> 0:17:52.480 didn't know what would happen on that lake. Peter didn't 0:17:52.520 --> 0:17:55.080 know one day he'd be walking on that water coming 0:17:55.080 --> 0:17:58.120 to Jesus. He certainly didn't know when he stepped out 0:17:58.160 --> 0:18:00.359 of the boat to walk on the water that five 0:18:00.440 --> 0:18:04.200 seconds later he'd be gasping for breath.
