Praying with a Dagger and a Sword Pastor Frankie Mazzapica June 8, 2025 SERMON NOTES Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts… —I Corinthians 14:1 (NKJV) Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. —1 Corinthians 12:31 (NIV) For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. —1 Corinthians 14:2 (NLT) For one who speaks in an unknown tongue does not speak the people does not speak to people but to God for no one understands him or catches his meaning but by the spirit he speaks mysteries secret truths hidden. —1 Corinthians 14:2 (AMP) Two Pushbacks on Speaking in Tongues 1 – “Speaking in tongues has passed away.” Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. —I Corinthians 13:8-10 (NKJV) 2 – “Speaking in tongues is not for everyone.” Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? —I Corinthians 12:30 (NKJV) And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; —Mark 16:17 (NKJV) And I wish you all to speak with tongues. —I Corinthians 14:5 (YLT) Four Types of Speaking in Tongues Two Public Uses 1. Tongues as a Sign to Unbelievers (1 Corinthians 14:22; Acts 2:6) Demonstrates the reality of God in supernatural ways. 2. Tongues with Interpretation (1 Corinthians 12:10) Two Private Uses 3. Tongues for Intercession (Romans 8:26–28 - The Spirit prays God’s perfect will when human words fall short.) 4. Tongues for Personal Prayer (1 Corinthians 14:4 – “A person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally.”) Three Reasons We All Should Speak in Tongues 1. Mysteries Become Reality In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us. —Romans 8:26 (NIV) …you have not because you ask not. —James 4:2 (AKJV) There are so many gifts, experiences and opportunities available that we will never experience unless we ask for them. 2. Winning in Warfare In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us. —Romans 8:26 (NIV) When we speak in tongues, we win the war we know we’re fighting as well as the war we don’t know we’re fighting. We’re also winning the war for others. 3. Intimacies with God …praise him in the private language of tongues, God understands you but no one else does, for you are sharing intimacies just between you and him. —1 Corinthians 14:2 (MSG) What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding. —I Corinthians 14:15 (NKJV) ---------------------------------- STAY CONNECTED ✦ Frankie Mazzapica Website: http://intags.co/FMMWebsite ✦ Frankie Mazzapica Facebook: http://intags.co/FMMFacebook ✦ Frankie Mazzapica Instagram: http://intags.co/FMMInstagram Soundstripe code:
