Hope you're having a great Christmas season and 0:02:00.720 --> 0:02:02.960 have something a little bit different on the program today. 0:02:03.200 --> 0:02:05.360 I have some of my family with me, my beautiful 0:02:05.360 --> 0:02:08.880 wife Victoria, my mom's here, my sister April, my brother, 0:02:08.960 --> 0:02:12.200 doctor Paul, my sister Lisa and my sister Tamra. So 0:02:12.560 --> 0:02:15.400 we thought we would just share some holiday memories, maybe 0:02:15.440 --> 0:02:18.359 some things that will encourage and inspire you. But we're 0:02:18.400 --> 0:02:20.520 going to have a good time together. Thanks for joining us. 0:02:20.639 --> 0:02:23.240 We just wish you and your family a very merry 0:02:23.280 --> 0:02:25.239 Christmas and a happy New Year. And we want to 0:02:25.280 --> 0:02:27.440 thank you for always being a part of this ministry. 0:02:27.520 --> 0:02:30.560 It means so much to us know that we're praying 0:02:30.639 --> 0:02:33.200 for you, and we know God's best is still in store. 0:02:33.400 --> 0:02:34.080 We believe that. 0:02:34.200 --> 0:02:38.119 Hey, well, it was forty one years ago Christmas time 0:02:38.160 --> 0:02:40.320 that we got the news that my mother wasn't healthy. 0:02:40.360 --> 0:02:42.880 You've probably heard me tell the story many times if 0:02:42.919 --> 0:02:45.880 you watch, But Mama, I remember that so clearly because 0:02:45.919 --> 0:02:48.160 my brother Paul called me. I was in college and 0:02:48.200 --> 0:02:51.000 he said, Joel, mother's sick. And I'd never seen my 0:02:51.040 --> 0:02:53.200 mother sick a day in her life. But come to 0:02:53.240 --> 0:02:55.639 find out, you were diagnosed with terminal cancer. 0:02:55.680 --> 0:02:56.840 But that was a difficult time. 0:02:56.960 --> 0:03:00.400 It was right at Christmas time especially. I was in 0:03:00.440 --> 0:03:03.920 the hospital till just a few days till Christmas time. 0:03:04.200 --> 0:03:08.280 But then I just remember God's word works, It never fails, Joel. 0:03:08.480 --> 0:03:10.840 But Daddy and I laid on the floor of the 0:03:11.200 --> 0:03:14.160 foot of our bed and prayed that Jesus would touch 0:03:14.200 --> 0:03:16.000 and heal me. And do you know what he did. 0:03:16.000 --> 0:03:18.880 It's been forty one years now. I got some scriptures. 0:03:18.880 --> 0:03:20.000 I have him on my phone. 0:03:20.240 --> 0:03:23.080 I read them every day, and then I put scriptures 0:03:23.080 --> 0:03:26.160 in the house and pictures of me, like wanting to 0:03:26.240 --> 0:03:28.840 ride a horse that I rode twenty five years ago. 0:03:28.919 --> 0:03:31.359 And I did that. And you know what, Jesus was 0:03:31.400 --> 0:03:34.399 so good and so merciful, and Joel, if it had 0:03:34.400 --> 0:03:36.600 not been for that, maybe I wouldn't be praying for 0:03:36.640 --> 0:03:39.800 the sick today. But forty one years later, Jesus gave 0:03:39.840 --> 0:03:41.920 me my life back, and he can do it for you. 0:03:42.000 --> 0:03:44.160 He doesn't love me anymore than he loves anybody else, 0:03:44.200 --> 0:03:45.640 so he can do that for anybody. 0:03:45.760 --> 0:03:48.520 That's amazing, Paul. I remember, you know, Paul, you're a 0:03:48.560 --> 0:03:49.840 medical doctor. When you called, and. 0:03:49.800 --> 0:03:53.480 It wasn't good news, now, Joel, the bib sees were clear. 0:03:53.920 --> 0:03:57.320 She had metastatic avenue carcinomum to her liver, which means 0:03:57.320 --> 0:04:00.240 that a tumor had spread to her liver multiple areas 0:04:00.720 --> 0:04:02.880 at that time, and even now, there's not really good 0:04:02.880 --> 0:04:04.560 treatment for it. So when they said she had a 0:04:04.600 --> 0:04:08.160 few weeks to live, that was right. Prognosis was just very, 0:04:08.240 --> 0:04:08.640 very grim. 0:04:08.880 --> 0:04:11.240 And it didn't happen overnight, Mama. But you just you 0:04:11.320 --> 0:04:13.400 fought the good fight of faith. You stayed in that 0:04:13.480 --> 0:04:16.279 attitude of faith. You didn't go back to bed accept 0:04:16.279 --> 0:04:18.800 at normal times. And I remember I hear my mom 0:04:18.800 --> 0:04:21.000 walking through the house quoting scriptures. I will live and 0:04:21.040 --> 0:04:23.200 not die, and God's restoring health back into me. 0:04:23.320 --> 0:04:25.320 But I believe that, you know. 0:04:25.320 --> 0:04:27.599 It's easy to give in to the defeat, and you know, 0:04:27.720 --> 0:04:30.680 let negative words spoken over us limit our life. And 0:04:31.200 --> 0:04:33.440 you know, Paul, you're a doctor. We believe in you know, 0:04:33.520 --> 0:04:36.160 doctors in medicine, but sometimes they come to the end 0:04:36.160 --> 0:04:38.760 of what they can do. And so when you believe, 0:04:38.839 --> 0:04:40.720 all things are possible and that that's what we saw 0:04:40.760 --> 0:04:43.040 our mother do. And like we said, you know, many 0:04:43.040 --> 0:04:46.160 many years later, eighty nine years old, still healthy and strong. 0:04:45.960 --> 0:04:46.520 Thank God. 0:04:47.000 --> 0:04:48.960 You know. I remember one thing, Joel, that I did 0:04:49.120 --> 0:04:51.480 one night when Daddy was sleeping. I got up in 0:04:51.520 --> 0:04:53.520 the middle of the night, about twelve thirty or something 0:04:53.560 --> 0:04:56.839 like that, went into his office and I wrote some 0:04:56.839 --> 0:05:00.440 some notes apologizing to people that maybe I hadn't even 0:05:00.480 --> 0:05:02.200 done anything too, but I felt in my heart that 0:05:02.320 --> 0:05:05.560 it was so important to ask God to forgiveness, asked 0:05:05.600 --> 0:05:08.320 Jesus to forgive me things that I'd done wrong. And 0:05:08.360 --> 0:05:10.560 I wrote all the children and I'm sure all of 0:05:10.600 --> 0:05:13.880 you that I had done wrong through the years, but 0:05:14.000 --> 0:05:15.920 I asked. 0:05:15.320 --> 0:05:16.120 Them to forgive me. 0:05:16.240 --> 0:05:18.800 I asked Daddy too, I asked my mother and Daddy too, 0:05:19.080 --> 0:05:21.400 and then I asked a man who was a pastor, 0:05:21.520 --> 0:05:23.120 was a good friend, and he didn't even know what 0:05:23.160 --> 0:05:25.840 I was talking about. But I got also those off 0:05:25.880 --> 0:05:27.960 in the mail, and I felt so good because I 0:05:28.000 --> 0:05:30.359 felt like I'd forgiven everybody that I'd done anything to 0:05:30.920 --> 0:05:33.279 and you know, asked them to forgive me. I think 0:05:33.480 --> 0:05:37.560 for unforgiveness is one of the hindrances. Although I'm not 0:05:37.800 --> 0:05:41.120 a specialist on this, I just think it's so important 0:05:41.160 --> 0:05:44.159 to forgive people, and so I did and I just 0:05:44.200 --> 0:05:45.040 felt good about it. 0:05:45.160 --> 0:05:47.640 That's so good. That's a key to healing, I believe 0:05:47.680 --> 0:05:51.040 in to living a healthy and fulfilled life. Lisa, you 0:05:51.080 --> 0:05:54.440 know you bought those dishes during that time that Christmas season. 0:05:54.480 --> 0:05:55.080 Tell that story. 0:05:55.360 --> 0:05:57.720 Yeah, it was really interesting because even though it was 0:05:57.760 --> 0:06:01.880 a real sad time for all of us. I remember 0:06:02.120 --> 0:06:06.320 how Daddy, especially and Mama sort of set the tone 0:06:06.920 --> 0:06:10.679 for the whole environment and atmosphere. I mean, from the beginning, 0:06:10.760 --> 0:06:13.320 Daddy said, we're going to get a miracle. We believe 0:06:13.520 --> 0:06:16.800 that God's words is true and that healing comes from God. 0:06:16.839 --> 0:06:19.479 And so after they prayed for healing, it was like, 0:06:19.760 --> 0:06:22.240 in my mind's eye as a young person, it was like, 0:06:22.520 --> 0:06:24.960 she's going to get her miracle. And just in the 0:06:25.040 --> 0:06:29.480 home there was just this atmosphere of faith and expectancy 0:06:30.080 --> 0:06:33.920 and miracles. And so when we went to buy a gift, 0:06:33.960 --> 0:06:36.840 it was a twelve piece set of china, because Mama 0:06:36.960 --> 0:06:40.039 likes to collect china, and it was so pretty, and 0:06:40.360 --> 0:06:43.600 they didn't have the full twelve piece setting, and so 0:06:43.640 --> 0:06:45.719 they said, but you know, within five or six weeks, 0:06:45.760 --> 0:06:48.160 the other will come. So we took what we had, 0:06:48.240 --> 0:06:51.799 we wrapped it up, and I'll never forget I didn't 0:06:51.800 --> 0:06:54.039 think anything about that because I thought, my mother is 0:06:54.080 --> 0:06:56.040 going to live, she's not going to die, She's going 0:06:56.080 --> 0:06:59.440 to declare the glory of the Lord. And so when 0:06:59.480 --> 0:07:02.640 we gave it to her, I remember how she teared 0:07:02.720 --> 0:07:05.320 up when I told her that, you know, it wouldn't 0:07:05.440 --> 0:07:07.800 the rest wouldn't come in the next few weeks. Well, 0:07:07.920 --> 0:07:11.560 she said later, she said, I had the thought, I'm 0:07:11.640 --> 0:07:15.040 so glad my children think I'm going to live. And 0:07:15.120 --> 0:07:19.000 that encouraged her. And I think that it's because my 0:07:19.120 --> 0:07:22.000 mom and dad. You know, they knew the word of God, 0:07:22.040 --> 0:07:25.480 they knew the faithfulness of God, and instead of just 0:07:25.520 --> 0:07:29.400 going down that road of depression and hopelessness, they just 0:07:29.560 --> 0:07:33.600 set that tone of faith and expectancy. And we knew 0:07:33.680 --> 0:07:36.800 Jesus is our hope, and if Jesus is all we have, 0:07:37.000 --> 0:07:40.960 Jesus is all we need. And so she got to 0:07:41.120 --> 0:07:44.000 enjoy that China and she still has it to this day, 0:07:44.040 --> 0:07:46.680 and it's a testament of God's faithfulness. 0:07:47.000 --> 0:07:47.720 That's so good. 0:07:47.960 --> 0:07:49.920 I remember, Mamma, you said you put pictures up in 0:07:49.960 --> 0:07:52.000 the house from a time when you were healthy. And 0:07:52.320 --> 0:07:54.320 I came home from college and I thought, what are 0:07:54.360 --> 0:07:56.760 all these pictures doing, Mama riding a horse and her 0:07:56.800 --> 0:07:58.920 wedding pictures. But you know what she was doing. She 0:07:59.000 --> 0:08:02.080 was creating a new image of victory on the inside. 0:08:02.280 --> 0:08:04.320 In other words, she was seeing herself the way she 0:08:04.440 --> 0:08:07.160 wanted to be. And I think that's a you know, 0:08:07.200 --> 0:08:09.880 that's a part of becoming who you were created to be. 0:08:10.000 --> 0:08:11.760 You have to have the vision in front of you. 0:08:12.200 --> 0:08:14.520 I've heard it said, you'll never rise any higher than 0:08:14.520 --> 0:08:17.160 the way you see yourself. So she saw herself on 0:08:17.200 --> 0:08:20.320 that horse again. She saw herself healthy and whole. Even 0:08:20.320 --> 0:08:23.120 in the scripture, God told Abraham, look up from where 0:08:23.160 --> 0:08:25.240 you are, and all the land that you will see, 0:08:25.440 --> 0:08:27.720 I will give it to you. And I think sometimes, 0:08:27.840 --> 0:08:29.520 you know, we can be looking down in life at 0:08:29.520 --> 0:08:32.160 our problems and what's not working out, but God saying, 0:08:32.200 --> 0:08:34.640 look up, have a vision for it. Then he can 0:08:34.880 --> 0:08:36.959 do some awesome things in your life. That's what he's 0:08:37.000 --> 0:08:38.880 done for our mother and our family. I'm sure he's 0:08:38.880 --> 0:08:41.640 done it for you as well. Victoria been married to 0:08:41.800 --> 0:08:44.880 for thirty five years. We've had thirty five great Christmases. 0:08:44.920 --> 0:08:47.959 But yeah, you know some of the Christmases, we've had 0:08:47.960 --> 0:08:50.480 great Christmases. But one of the things that really sticks 0:08:50.480 --> 0:08:54.800 in my mind is with our own children. And through 0:08:54.840 --> 0:08:57.800 the years we did this as a tradition. We would 0:08:57.840 --> 0:09:00.040 make clues and we called it a scavenger hunt. We 0:09:00.120 --> 0:09:03.400 would put little clues all around the house to where 0:09:03.440 --> 0:09:06.400 their gift was. And so each clue would lead them 0:09:06.440 --> 0:09:09.320 closer to their gift. And we have so many home 0:09:09.440 --> 0:09:12.400 videos because we did it year after year after year. 0:09:12.840 --> 0:09:15.360 They would find those clues and they would get their gift. 0:09:15.840 --> 0:09:19.360 But the interesting thing about that is, not long ago 0:09:19.480 --> 0:09:20.400 our kids are grown. 0:09:20.480 --> 0:09:21.720 Now they're in their twenties. 0:09:22.240 --> 0:09:27.000 They made clues for us to find our gifts, and 0:09:27.080 --> 0:09:29.880 so we're running through the house trying to find our gifts. 0:09:30.240 --> 0:09:33.480 The thing about that is, you know, it's interesting that 0:09:34.120 --> 0:09:38.480 you can pass things down traditions. You can pass things 0:09:38.520 --> 0:09:41.200 down to your children. In fact, the Bible talks about 0:09:41.240 --> 0:09:43.880 how we're to talk about the Lord, how we're to 0:09:44.000 --> 0:09:47.120 sit and talk about the Lord, how our life should 0:09:47.120 --> 0:09:48.320 be passing. 0:09:47.880 --> 0:09:48.960 Things down to them. 0:09:49.559 --> 0:09:52.280 And so just like the tradition of Christmas, we can 0:09:52.400 --> 0:09:56.920 also pass attitudes down. We can pass fear down, we 0:09:56.960 --> 0:10:00.160 can pass anger down. So it's a matter of we 0:10:00.200 --> 0:10:02.360 want to pass the good things down or do we 0:10:02.400 --> 0:10:05.480 want to pass the not so good things down? And 0:10:05.559 --> 0:10:08.680 so I think this Christmas season we ought to realize 0:10:08.679 --> 0:10:11.840 that we are such examples to our family and we 0:10:11.880 --> 0:10:15.960 can set new standards. We can change old ways and 0:10:16.080 --> 0:10:19.520 old mindsets by just living this out. And I think 0:10:19.559 --> 0:10:22.400 about the story we were just talking about Dody, about 0:10:22.679 --> 0:10:26.679 you being ill. I believe that taught the whole family 0:10:26.880 --> 0:10:29.800 that we can pray and we can believe. So what 0:10:29.840 --> 0:10:32.800 are you passing down to your kids today? You know, 0:10:33.080 --> 0:10:34.880 I think that we can all have a new start 0:10:34.920 --> 0:10:37.240 at Christmas and we can make decisions that say, you 0:10:37.280 --> 0:10:39.480 know what, I'm going to pass down good, I'm going 0:10:39.520 --> 0:10:42.199 to pass down love, I'm going to pass down kindness. 0:10:42.400 --> 0:10:44.959 But that's some of my greatest Christmas memories. 0:10:45.000 --> 0:10:46.960 And I just wonder what we're going to get for 0:10:47.080 --> 0:10:49.200 Christmas this year when we go on our scavenger. 0:10:49.800 --> 0:10:52.560 They made a lot harder than than I did for them. 0:10:52.640 --> 0:10:54.960 But Paul, I remember you told this story the other 0:10:55.040 --> 0:10:57.520 day in church about you called Daddy at some point 0:10:57.559 --> 0:10:57.959 in your life. 0:10:57.960 --> 0:10:58.520 Can you remember that? 0:10:58.559 --> 0:10:59.960 Can you tell him he's sitt in his chair. 0:11:00.360 --> 0:11:02.120 Yeah, that's exactly what you're talking about. 0:11:02.160 --> 0:11:02.360 Vic. 0:11:03.679 --> 0:11:07.760 You know, one Saturday morning, I was reading my Bible 0:11:08.120 --> 0:11:12.680 in my ladyboy recliner in my robe, drinking coffee, and 0:11:12.720 --> 0:11:14.360 I decided, I just I thought, I want to call 0:11:14.400 --> 0:11:15.440 Daddy and see what he's doing. 0:11:15.480 --> 0:11:15.960 So I called him. 0:11:15.960 --> 0:11:16.920 I Saidaddy, what are you doing? 0:11:17.000 --> 0:11:19.160 He said, Oh, Paul, you know what I'm doing. It's 0:11:19.200 --> 0:11:21.480 just Saturday morning. I'm fine, I said, but I want 0:11:21.520 --> 0:11:23.880 to know which exactly you're doing, he said, Paul. Well, 0:11:23.920 --> 0:11:25.800 I'm sitting in my lazy boy, I'm in my robe, 0:11:25.800 --> 0:11:28.960 I'm drinking coffee, and I'm reading my Bible. I realized 0:11:29.000 --> 0:11:32.360 that I had become him. I had seen that model, Victoria, 0:11:32.480 --> 0:11:34.840 just like you said, all those years, and you know 0:11:34.880 --> 0:11:38.480 what we had. I'm sure we all have just you know, 0:11:38.600 --> 0:11:40.480 learned to do that because of the example of my 0:11:40.520 --> 0:11:42.600 mom and dad. But it was a wonderful example to me. 0:11:42.920 --> 0:11:46.199 What you see is what you're teaching as you're raising 0:11:46.240 --> 0:11:46.720 your kids. 0:11:46.920 --> 0:11:49.400 I love that what we can pass down, pass down love, 0:11:49.480 --> 0:11:52.840 passed down, generosity, passed down, hope and kindness, and raising 0:11:52.880 --> 0:11:55.040 your children in church as well. I think that's good. 0:11:55.520 --> 0:11:57.400 One quick memory for me, and then I'll get to 0:11:57.440 --> 0:11:59.680 you guys. Alexander is going to sing in a moment 0:11:59.679 --> 0:12:02.719 our Dog with Lake Wuood Music. But I remember one 0:12:02.760 --> 0:12:05.760 time Daddy was going to buy April a gift and 0:12:05.760 --> 0:12:07.920 he's going to buy you a bicycle. And so we 0:12:07.960 --> 0:12:10.240 went up to the hardware store where we bought him 0:12:10.280 --> 0:12:12.200 during those days, and we picked out this bike. I 0:12:12.200 --> 0:12:14.080 got to pick out your bike April, and I picked 0:12:14.080 --> 0:12:16.920 out the one I wanted. I want to gotch you 0:12:16.960 --> 0:12:19.440 what I wanted. But so we picked out this bike, 0:12:19.520 --> 0:12:22.920 and so we brought it home. Well, he came back 0:12:22.920 --> 0:12:25.400 and got it, but I picked it out and he 0:12:25.559 --> 0:12:28.480 wrapped it in a big sheet on the patio. And 0:12:28.520 --> 0:12:30.720 this was like two weeks before Christmas, and so you know, 0:12:30.800 --> 0:12:32.679 I was like eight years old, and so every day 0:12:32.720 --> 0:12:34.000 I wanted to go out there and look at it. 0:12:34.200 --> 0:12:35.680 I said, Daddy, can I go look at the bike? 0:12:35.760 --> 0:12:37.160 It was a company said no, no, you can't look 0:12:37.160 --> 0:12:39.280 at it. I said, why, I've already seen it. I 0:12:39.320 --> 0:12:40.920 want to see the bike. You know, I's curious. It 0:12:41.080 --> 0:12:42.840 just was kind of bugging me. There was out there 0:12:42.840 --> 0:12:44.520 and I couldn't see it. But he never let me 0:12:44.559 --> 0:12:47.040 see the bike. Well, Christmas morning, you know, we get 0:12:47.120 --> 0:12:48.960 up at six or seven, We all slipped in the 0:12:49.000 --> 0:12:50.920 den and I ran out there, you know when it 0:12:50.960 --> 0:12:53.120 was time, and we pulled the sheet off. The reason 0:12:53.160 --> 0:12:55.240 why it's had two bikes under it, one for me 0:12:55.360 --> 0:12:57.760 and one for her. What he hadn't told me is, 0:12:58.000 --> 0:12:59.640 you know, he wanted to see what bike I really 0:12:59.720 --> 0:13:02.520 wanted and I like in that sometimes well, you know what, 0:13:02.840 --> 0:13:05.040 my dad was generous in my mom and all, but 0:13:05.320 --> 0:13:08.600 I like it sometimes in life sometimes God, you know, 0:13:08.600 --> 0:13:10.800 it's kind of feels like he's withholding her. Why can't 0:13:10.800 --> 0:13:11.440 I do this now? 0:13:11.440 --> 0:13:12.000 Why is it? Well? 0:13:12.040 --> 0:13:12.560 I have to wait? 0:13:12.760 --> 0:13:15.360 It's because he has something better in store. It's because 0:13:15.360 --> 0:13:18.760 he's you know, he's in control. He's he's guiding your life. 0:13:18.800 --> 0:13:22.240 And so I think just being patient, trusting God's timing, 0:13:22.559 --> 0:13:24.920 know that you're having to wait, is because something better 0:13:25.040 --> 0:13:27.960 is coming. I hope you're enjoying the program today with 0:13:28.000 --> 0:13:30.920 my family. Take a listen to our daughter Alexandra and 0:13:31.000 --> 0:13:33.840 Lakewood Music and great music group. My sister Tamra, 0:16:56.000 --> 0:16:59.320 her husband Jim. They passed her Faith Family Church in Victoria, Texas, 0:16:59.400 --> 0:17:01.119 and Tim were always blessed. 0:17:00.880 --> 0:17:01.200 To have you. 0:17:02.040 --> 0:17:02.880 Thanks well. 0:17:02.920 --> 0:17:05.600 Talking about memories, one of the things that I have 0:17:05.800 --> 0:17:08.159 this special that I remember is our grandparents and how 0:17:08.200 --> 0:17:11.800 they were with us always on the holidays, Grandma and Granddaddy, 0:17:11.800 --> 0:17:14.560 and we loved them, and you know we were Mommy, 0:17:14.600 --> 0:17:16.600 you were an only child, so we were all they had. 0:17:16.720 --> 0:17:18.560 And I think they kind of spoiled us at times, 0:17:19.160 --> 0:17:21.119 but they were always, you know, so good to us. 0:17:21.119 --> 0:17:23.919 I remember, you know, Grandma would coming and cooking her 0:17:24.000 --> 0:17:26.640 coconut pie and corn bread dressing, whatever she cooked. 0:17:26.680 --> 0:17:27.440 It was always good. 0:17:27.960 --> 0:17:30.040 But one time you reminded us the other day that 0:17:30.200 --> 0:17:32.560 she came from Baytown one time for a holiday and 0:17:32.600 --> 0:17:36.520 forgot the Turkey, So I know, I know that that 0:17:36.640 --> 0:17:39.359 probably wasn't She probably wasn't too happy about that. But 0:17:39.480 --> 0:17:41.440 you know, I just remember how good they were to 0:17:41.560 --> 0:17:43.679 us in life, and just their consistency. 0:17:43.840 --> 0:17:44.879 There's simplicity. 0:17:45.359 --> 0:17:47.600 They never forgot her birthdays or Christmases. They gave us 0:17:47.600 --> 0:17:49.280 a car. You know, if all you had a car, 0:17:49.320 --> 0:17:50.320 I had a car. I had to send them a 0:17:50.359 --> 0:17:53.680 pillow to reach the pedal. But they were always so good, 0:17:53.720 --> 0:17:55.720 and I just it's maybe now that I have grandkids 0:17:55.760 --> 0:17:57.720 and some of you had grandkids, you think about the 0:17:57.800 --> 0:18:02.000 mark you make and really in their life. And because 0:18:02.000 --> 0:18:03.600 they had a great investment. And the Bible says in 0:18:03.680 --> 0:18:06.119 the Proverbs that a good man leaves an inheritance to 0:18:06.240 --> 0:18:09.520 his children's children. So it's not just money, but it's memories. 0:18:09.720 --> 0:18:13.000 And they left memories of loving us well. And so 0:18:13.080 --> 0:18:15.080 they were a great, great example for us. And that's 0:18:15.119 --> 0:18:16.320 what I remember about Christmas. 0:18:16.480 --> 0:18:16.960 That's so good. 0:18:17.040 --> 0:18:20.679 Tim I love you growing Granddaddy. Granddaddy retired early at 0:18:20.720 --> 0:18:23.280 fifty five. This is we're talking about my mom's parents. 0:18:23.600 --> 0:18:25.200 And he would come down to the church and work. 0:18:25.440 --> 0:18:27.760 I'd see him under the buildings, you know, the old 0:18:27.760 --> 0:18:29.439 buildings were up on blocks and he'd be under there 0:18:29.480 --> 0:18:32.439 doing plumbing and things like that. And a little sister, April, 0:18:32.600 --> 0:18:35.280 she's probably taller than me, but my little sister April, 0:18:35.320 --> 0:18:36.640 April goes around speaking. 0:18:36.920 --> 0:18:38.320 We'll talk about your book a little later. 0:18:38.400 --> 0:18:40.120 April Better every. 0:18:39.960 --> 0:18:42.280 Day, We're better than ever, Better than ever. 0:18:42.560 --> 0:18:45.480 Yeah, I gave her a better title. But April, about 0:18:45.480 --> 0:18:46.240 a Christmas memory? 0:18:46.760 --> 0:18:49.480 You know, I can think about one time. It was 0:18:49.560 --> 0:18:51.480 near Christmas and we were going to go Christmas shopping 0:18:51.480 --> 0:18:54.399 and I got sick and I had a fever and 0:18:54.480 --> 0:18:56.160 I was in bed. I was about seven years old, 0:18:56.240 --> 0:18:58.000 and you know, I was so used to Mom and 0:18:58.080 --> 0:19:00.199 Daddy just praying over me, and we had grown up 0:19:00.240 --> 0:19:03.520 in miracles, seeing miracles, growing up with kind of that faith. 0:19:04.040 --> 0:19:06.040 And I heard Daddy come home. I don't know where 0:19:06.080 --> 0:19:08.200 you were, but I heard Daddy come home. I'm sure 0:19:08.200 --> 0:19:10.840 you were there, and I thought, good, he can come 0:19:10.920 --> 0:19:13.119 pray for me because I was wanting to go shop. 0:19:13.920 --> 0:19:14.680 That started young. 0:19:16.119 --> 0:19:18.200 And he came back there and I'll never forget. 0:19:18.040 --> 0:19:18.480 What he said. 0:19:18.520 --> 0:19:20.040 He kind of felt in my head and he said, April, 0:19:20.080 --> 0:19:21.960 I agree with you that you're going to be healed. 0:19:22.560 --> 0:19:24.600 And I thought that didn't sound just right, but go 0:19:24.680 --> 0:19:25.200 ahead and pray. 0:19:25.359 --> 0:19:26.399 So he didn't pray for me. 0:19:26.720 --> 0:19:28.520 He said it again, I agree with you that you're 0:19:28.520 --> 0:19:30.080 going to be healed. And he walked out, and I thought, 0:19:30.240 --> 0:19:32.639 what in the world is wrong with him? And so 0:19:32.880 --> 0:19:34.359 I realized what he was trying to do is to 0:19:34.440 --> 0:19:36.840 teach me how to pray. And although I thought I 0:19:36.840 --> 0:19:40.440 should call someone, I just said a simple prayers that God, 0:19:40.600 --> 0:19:43.480 I don't feel good, just heal me. And you know 0:19:44.200 --> 0:19:46.359 I got healed. I mean, my fever went away. I 0:19:46.400 --> 0:19:49.200 don't know how long it was, but I felt good. 0:19:49.920 --> 0:19:52.160 And I realized that day, I remember it very well 0:19:52.240 --> 0:19:55.000 in my canopy bed, that it wasn't just about the 0:19:55.080 --> 0:19:58.560 God of Mama and Daddy. It wasn't about their faith. 0:19:58.720 --> 0:20:02.400 But Daddy threw that little bit of what I thought 0:20:02.440 --> 0:20:05.159 he was not being very kind to me, you know, 0:20:05.359 --> 0:20:08.000 taught me that it's my God, it's my faith, and 0:20:08.080 --> 0:20:11.040 God hears and he answers my prayers. And that's just 0:20:11.119 --> 0:20:13.160 something that made a mark on me and I take 0:20:13.359 --> 0:20:13.920 to this day. 0:20:14.280 --> 0:20:15.440 Yeah, that's so good, Apel. 0:20:15.520 --> 0:20:18.879 I love that we grew up going to my grandmother's 0:20:18.920 --> 0:20:21.960 house in Columbus Georgia every Christmas, and all of our 0:20:22.000 --> 0:20:26.159 cousins were there and we slept under the Christmas tree, waiting, 0:20:26.880 --> 0:20:28.760 you know, for the next morning so we could get up. 0:20:28.880 --> 0:20:31.600 But I have an interesting story about that, is I 0:20:31.680 --> 0:20:34.000 did that all growing up. I mean, it's some of 0:20:34.080 --> 0:20:36.639 my best memories being with my cousins and my grandma, 0:20:36.800 --> 0:20:39.920 my grandmother's big old house. And one year I went 0:20:40.040 --> 0:20:42.600 back with my one of my cousins and we went 0:20:42.680 --> 0:20:46.080 to the old house where my grandmother was, and they 0:20:46.160 --> 0:20:47.840 had turned that house into a church. 0:20:48.480 --> 0:20:51.080 Some one had bought it, and so we went. 0:20:51.000 --> 0:20:53.760 Into the church service and we were sitting in the 0:20:53.840 --> 0:20:56.720 big room with the fireplace. We knew where the Christmas 0:20:56.760 --> 0:20:59.240 tree was. We're sitting in the back. They had set 0:20:59.320 --> 0:21:01.920 up chairs and we're sitting in the back and we're 0:21:02.040 --> 0:21:06.560 just crying. And after the service some of the minister 0:21:06.680 --> 0:21:08.080 and some of them came up to us and they said, 0:21:08.080 --> 0:21:08.679 are you okay? 0:21:09.440 --> 0:21:11.560 You know, can we pray with you? Can we help you? 0:21:12.119 --> 0:21:15.040 And we were just missed because we had just thought 0:21:15.080 --> 0:21:17.680 about all those Christmases that we had spent there with 0:21:17.800 --> 0:21:20.640 my grandmother. They would cut a tree down and bring 0:21:20.760 --> 0:21:23.400 it in and we just told the man. We said, 0:21:23.600 --> 0:21:27.000 you know what, We're fine. We love the Lord, we 0:21:27.119 --> 0:21:30.119 served the Lord. But this was my grandmother's house and 0:21:30.280 --> 0:21:33.359 how it could be turned into a church is unbelievable. 0:21:33.960 --> 0:21:35.879 And he said, when my wife and I came to 0:21:35.920 --> 0:21:40.240 see this house, he said, my wife said, there's peace 0:21:40.320 --> 0:21:42.879 in this house and this is a house of prayer. 0:21:43.600 --> 0:21:47.359 And they bought that house and had church service in it. 0:21:47.440 --> 0:21:49.920 So it was just remarkable to us sitting in there 0:21:50.000 --> 0:21:52.879 thinking about all the Christmases and we all laid on 0:21:52.960 --> 0:21:55.400 that floor in our little palettes, and all the joy 0:21:55.440 --> 0:21:59.520 we had in that house. So it's another just tribute 0:21:59.600 --> 0:22:02.800 to god faithfulness and the fact what is passed down 0:22:02.880 --> 0:22:06.080 from generation to generation. And I think to myself, it 0:22:06.200 --> 0:22:09.680 was my grandmother's prayers and maybe hers before that that 0:22:09.880 --> 0:22:11.840 have gotten me even to where I am now. 0:22:12.200 --> 0:22:12.800 That's so good. 0:22:12.840 --> 0:22:13.440 That's amazing. 0:22:13.520 --> 0:22:13.879 Victoria. 0:22:14.200 --> 0:22:16.639 It's funny. We were in my office about a year 0:22:16.720 --> 0:22:18.400 or two ago and I was cleaning out some things 0:22:18.440 --> 0:22:20.879 and I keep my old bibles, and I had one 0:22:20.880 --> 0:22:23.080 of Victoria's old bible. Anyway, I'm looking through this and 0:22:23.160 --> 0:22:25.760 the first Bible that I got was on December the 0:22:26.080 --> 0:22:30.080 twenty fifth, nineteen sixty nine. It was my red Bible 0:22:30.119 --> 0:22:31.560 and we wrote all in it and had all those 0:22:31.600 --> 0:22:33.760 funny notes well, and it was given to my mom 0:22:33.800 --> 0:22:36.640 and daddy. I came across Victorious Bible and I looked 0:22:36.640 --> 0:22:38.879 at the date. It was December the twenty fifth, nineteen 0:22:38.960 --> 0:22:41.440 sixty nine, same day from your mom and dad. 0:22:41.800 --> 0:22:45.280 Yeah, that's crazy. That's God's divine destiny. 0:22:45.640 --> 0:22:48.959 I think about that, how He makes things cross our 0:22:49.080 --> 0:22:52.000 paths that we don't even realize. And I love the 0:22:52.040 --> 0:22:55.040 story about what Paul said. Because God, we'll give you 0:22:55.119 --> 0:22:57.400 the desires of your heart when you submit to him 0:22:57.920 --> 0:23:00.040 and when you ask him. I know, I've heard so 0:23:00.240 --> 0:23:01.920 many times people say, well, I don't know what God 0:23:02.000 --> 0:23:04.280 wants me to do. I don't have a dream for 0:23:04.440 --> 0:23:07.240 my life. But it's as simple as asking God to 0:23:07.400 --> 0:23:11.360 place his desire in your heart and to really receive 0:23:11.920 --> 0:23:13.040 that desire. 0:23:12.720 --> 0:23:13.600 And believe that he. 0:23:13.720 --> 0:23:16.320 If it doesn't come immediately, that God is going to 0:23:16.400 --> 0:23:19.119 direct your path. Not to worry, don't lean on your 0:23:19.119 --> 0:23:22.880 own understanding, but really, in all your ways, acknowledge Him 0:23:23.320 --> 0:23:26.120 and he'll direct your path. You know, life is full 0:23:26.160 --> 0:23:29.119 of ups and downs. It's not always a straight course. 0:23:29.600 --> 0:23:32.840 There's all kinds of winding roads. Sometimes you're down, sometimes 0:23:32.920 --> 0:23:34.680 you're up. But God's always faithful. 0:23:35.600 --> 0:23:36.200 That's so good. 0:23:36.560 --> 0:23:38.800 I think about, you know, when I work behind the 0:23:38.840 --> 0:23:42.280 scenes at the church during the television production, I never 0:23:42.400 --> 0:23:45.000 had any you know, any desire to be in front 0:23:45.000 --> 0:23:47.520 of people. But when Daddy would speak a message, you know, 0:23:47.600 --> 0:23:50.080 he'd speak like maybe forty minutes and we'd have to 0:23:50.119 --> 0:23:51.879 cut it down to like twenty five minutes for the 0:23:51.920 --> 0:23:54.080 TV program, So I would have to listen to that 0:23:54.240 --> 0:23:55.280 message three. 0:23:55.200 --> 0:23:56.320 Or four, maybe five times. 0:23:56.359 --> 0:23:58.000 I think, what's you know, what should I cut out? 0:23:58.000 --> 0:23:59.760 Because I thought, I want to make sure it makes sense. 0:24:00.160 --> 0:24:02.800 Try to hear all those stories and hear all those scriptures, 0:24:03.280 --> 0:24:05.800 never realizing that God was getting prepared for what I'm 0:24:05.840 --> 0:24:09.160 doing now. So you know, Paul, it's just God. God 0:24:09.280 --> 0:24:11.680 knows how to connect the dots in our lives. One 0:24:11.720 --> 0:24:14.639 thing I've learned, you know, I should have learned it earlier, 0:24:14.720 --> 0:24:18.280 But this trust God's timing and trust his ways. It 0:24:18.359 --> 0:24:21.040 may not always happen your way, but I've learned God's 0:24:21.080 --> 0:24:24.159 ways are better. God has the right time, and I 0:24:24.280 --> 0:24:26.160 found if there's a right time, then any other time 0:24:26.280 --> 0:24:28.200 is the wrong time. And that's hard for us to 0:24:28.240 --> 0:24:29.879 swallow because I'm sure you're like me, you want it 0:24:30.000 --> 0:24:31.760 right now, and God come on and make it happen. 0:24:31.840 --> 0:24:34.000 But you know what, God knows what he's doing, and 0:24:34.080 --> 0:24:36.200 I think in the meantime when it's not happening, I 0:24:36.240 --> 0:24:38.560 think a real key is to be your best way you. 0:24:38.640 --> 0:24:39.840 Are to honor God. 0:24:40.160 --> 0:24:41.760 You know, you're not at the job you want, you're 0:24:41.760 --> 0:24:44.600 not in a relationship you wannor you know, got some difficulties. 0:24:44.680 --> 0:24:47.000 But I think you know, I like to think of 0:24:47.040 --> 0:24:49.119 it like this, If you're not faithful in the wilderness, 0:24:49.320 --> 0:24:51.560 how can God take you into the Promised Land. So 0:24:51.600 --> 0:24:53.800 I'd encourage you to be faithful where you are. I 0:24:53.880 --> 0:24:56.480 hope it's a great Christmas and a fun Christmas. But 0:24:56.800 --> 0:24:59.480 even if there's some difficulties in your life, just know 0:24:59.600 --> 0:25:02.560 that God still ordering your steps. When we had that 0:25:02.720 --> 0:25:06.159 Christmas nineteen eighty one, that was a difficult Christmas. You know, 0:25:06.480 --> 0:25:08.640 we plan to come home and celebrate and have fun 0:25:08.760 --> 0:25:10.720 and goof off, but you know it was a somber 0:25:10.880 --> 0:25:13.080 Christmas when your mom's just been told you has a 0:25:13.119 --> 0:25:15.080 few weeks to live. But you know what, you keep 0:25:15.160 --> 0:25:17.879 moving forward and you come into other chapters. You know, 0:25:18.040 --> 0:25:19.960 don't get stuck on a chapter. You keep turning that 0:25:20.080 --> 0:25:21.920 page and you watch what God will do. 0:25:22.119 --> 0:25:24.600 But you know, I think too part of that vision 0:25:24.720 --> 0:25:27.560 can be the people that you surround yourself with and 0:25:27.640 --> 0:25:28.919 the people you get around. 0:25:29.240 --> 0:25:31.480 And sometimes it's difficult. 0:25:31.080 --> 0:25:33.960 If you are in a situation where you are with 0:25:34.080 --> 0:25:37.120 people who are defeated and they have so much doubt 0:25:37.200 --> 0:25:38.439 and they don't speak victory. 0:25:38.800 --> 0:25:40.639 But you decide where you go. 0:25:40.920 --> 0:25:44.000 You decide the environment you put yourself in, whether it's 0:25:44.040 --> 0:25:48.560 going to a community where people have faith and they 0:25:49.000 --> 0:25:51.280 can speak vision over you. They can teach you to pray, 0:25:51.480 --> 0:25:53.639 they can teach you how to read the Bible. Because 0:25:53.920 --> 0:25:56.280 I think all of us would say here today, spending 0:25:56.440 --> 0:26:00.359 time with God has totally changed our lives. In the 0:26:00.480 --> 0:26:03.919 Word of God, when we feel defeated, when we have setbacks, 0:26:04.000 --> 0:26:06.960 we can pull a promise out and it helps us 0:26:07.040 --> 0:26:10.560 change our perspective because if God said it, he'll. 0:26:10.440 --> 0:26:12.600 Do it, and it may not be the way we 0:26:13.200 --> 0:26:13.920 see him do it. 0:26:14.080 --> 0:26:16.280 But if we can hold onto that promise, God can 0:26:16.359 --> 0:26:19.520 bring that promise to pass in his way. So today 0:26:20.080 --> 0:26:23.880 you know there is hope. And I love these stories 0:26:23.920 --> 0:26:26.560 of victory. And I love these memories because we need 0:26:26.640 --> 0:26:29.560 to put this hope in us, because we need to 0:26:29.680 --> 0:26:32.680 rise above the status quo and what the world would 0:26:32.760 --> 0:26:33.399 like to tell us. 0:26:33.520 --> 0:26:35.399 You know that this is a terrible world. This is 0:26:35.480 --> 0:26:37.720 this We are the lights of the world. 0:26:37.920 --> 0:26:40.280 I think about like, have you ever been in a 0:26:40.720 --> 0:26:44.040 room or a hotel room and that one little light, 0:26:44.720 --> 0:26:47.160 the little green light that's shining, or the little light 0:26:47.280 --> 0:26:50.200 that's on the wall. Your eye goes straight to that light. 0:26:50.320 --> 0:26:52.440 The room can be dark, but your eye goes straight 0:26:52.480 --> 0:26:55.480 to that light. And that's how we are in the world. 0:26:56.000 --> 0:27:00.000 When we carry hope and we carry Christ people's eyes 0:27:00.160 --> 0:27:02.440 it goes to that light. It doesn't matter how dark 0:27:02.520 --> 0:27:06.800 it is. The smallest light can shine and change things. 0:27:06.880 --> 0:27:09.480 So that's what I would say this Christmas season. Know 0:27:09.600 --> 0:27:11.359 that you've got a light on the inside of you 0:27:11.520 --> 0:27:15.240 that shines brightly, and that people see that light and 0:27:15.320 --> 0:27:18.520 it's making a difference. You may not feel like it is, 0:27:18.640 --> 0:27:20.959 but you have to have the confidence and the reassurance 0:27:21.040 --> 0:27:24.280 in God that your light is shining brightly and it's 0:27:24.359 --> 0:27:26.840 making a difference not only for you, but for your 0:27:26.920 --> 0:27:28.280 family and the people around you. 0:27:28.560 --> 0:27:31.280 Yeah, it's so awesome being with you today. We believe 0:27:31.400 --> 0:27:34.240 that you're going to finish twenty twenty two strong. But 0:27:34.320 --> 0:27:36.680 here's what we declare over you and your family that 0:27:36.800 --> 0:27:39.960 twenty twenty three will even be better. I love that scripture. 0:27:40.000 --> 0:27:42.440 It says God's taking us from glory to glory, so 0:27:42.920 --> 0:27:45.760 let's keep our hopes up. Know that God's in control. 0:27:45.880 --> 0:27:48.040 He's got you in the palm of his hand. You 0:27:48.080 --> 0:27:51.000 wouldn't be alive unless God had something amazing up in 0:27:51.119 --> 0:27:53.159 front of you. I shared the other day on the 0:27:53.160 --> 0:27:56.560 scripture in Romans twelve, it says be glad for all 0:27:56.640 --> 0:27:59.800 that God is planning for you. Lisa said, let's get 0:27:59.800 --> 0:28:02.720 a hopes up for twenty twenty three. Let's start dreaming again, 0:28:02.880 --> 0:28:04.600 believing again, hoping again. 0:28:05.080 --> 0:28:07.200 I believe when you do that, you're getting. 0:28:06.960 --> 0:28:10.160 In agreement with God. That's not just being positive, that's 0:28:10.280 --> 0:28:13.080 releasing your faith for the awesome future that He has 0:28:13.160 --> 0:28:16.240 in store. We love you, We're gonna keep praying for you. 0:28:16.560 --> 0:28:18.879 Merry Christmas to you and your family.
