Is anxiety the cause of most illnesses? Now, you will remember that in another question that was asked, I think it was the 35th question, what is the most common ailment that people come to you with? And I answered that question by saying cancer. Now, everyone knows that cancer is not psychosomatic. It couldn't be. If cancer was the result of a psychosomatic person, then remember, we would not be spending our billions and billions of dollars for cancer research. We would just say cancer was psychosomatic, and there it is. And yet, I take it the truth that the most common ailment that people come to me with is cancer. And we have seen literally scores, and there will be doctors who will substantiate the healing of these people who have been healed from cancer. Do you understand what I'm trying to say? Therefore, those who are healed by the power of God are not merely those who have been healed as a result of something that was psychosomatic. I admit very freely that there are those who are neurotic. I'm the first one to admit that there are those who need to be healed mentally and spiritually. who come for physical healings. Who would know better than I because I deal with literally thousands and thousands of people. That's my work. That's what I do. 16, 18 hours a day. And I've come to the conclusion that this age knows almost everything about life except how to live it. And it's not enough to know about life. We must know how to live life. We've handed the body over to the doctor. We've handed the mind over to the psychiatrist. We've handed the soul over to the minister. treating these three parts as separate entities. And they're not separate. Life is a whole. Man is a trinity. Body, soul, and spirit. Life is a whole, and you cannot affect one part without affecting... All three. I know that there are doctors who vary in their estimate of the percentage of people who pass on mental and spiritual sicknesses to their bodies. And one can. It's the easiest thing in the world to pass on a mental sickness to your body. or a spiritual sickness to the body. A doctor here in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has contacted me very often. He's come up to the office to see me. And he said, you know, Catherine Kuhlman, I'm deeply interested in that which you teach. I have been listening very closely. I've been watching the ministry very closely. And I would like to bring into my practice as a doctor that which you give as a minister. For he said the combination of both would make for a perfect practice. And it's just like that. They tell me that in a group of John Hopkins doctors, one psychiatrist said that 40 % of the cases that come to their clinic were mental and spiritual in origin. And I believe that the percentage is just like that. You understand something? Man was made to give himself to a higher power than himself. And if you have not given yourself to a higher power than yourself, then you are going to find that you're going to be mastered by things, by circumstances. You see, that's the reason a Christian need never go down in defeat. Never. No man, no woman need ever go down in defeat or be defeated on a single score if his faith and his confidence is in God, for God knows no such thing as defeat, and a Christian knows where to go and what to do in his hour of disappointment, in that hour of tragedy. I'm not going to have anything master me is one of the greatest phrases declaring a life purpose that has ever been uttered. The man who was completely mastered by the will of God said that he would not be mastered by anything. If you are completely mastered by the will of God, you will not be defeated in the hour of sickness, in the hour of mental strain, in the hour of disappointment, in the hour of temptation. For you and I are not only conquerors, we're more than conquerors to Christ who loved us. And if you're not mastered by God, you'll be mastered by things, by yourself, by people, by circumstances, by the world. When death comes, when sorrow comes, when disappointments come, you'll be mastered by these things. Some are mastered by the world. Some are mastered by circumstances. It's usually a very slow and silent process. We scarcely know what is happening. But these things do happen. And it isn't long before we find that we are sick in body. and we wonder how it ever happened. That's why, you see, it's more than just a miracle service in the healing of a sick body. If, with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, I can get through to the mind of that individual, And allow him to see that God is still God Almighty. Bigger than his sorrow. Greater than his heartbreak. God Almighty. Greater than the circumstances under which he has to live and labor. and that he does not have to go down in defeat. Jesus has given to him and made possible to him all the necessary resources. All these things are at his disposal and that he can live an abundant and victorious Christian life. If I can get through to that individual, through to his mind, For as a man thinketh, so is he that's scriptural. Jesus himself said it. As a man thinketh, so is he. If you think defeat, you'll be defeated. If you think discouragement, you'll be a discouraged person. You can't think pain without feeling pain. You can't think sickness without being sick. It all goes together. Sure. Oh, don't go down in defeat. Don't be a person who is beaten. God is still God Almighty. The God of Abraham is still our God. The God of Elijah is still our God. The God who made the iron to swim is still God Almighty. The God who sent the water from the rock. The manna from heaven. The God who supplied the little widow with her meal and her oil. is still God Almighty. And there's no uncertainty about that. Don't be mastered by things. Be mastered by God. And it'll not be long before you'll find that you're living an abundant and victorious Christian life. And then when afflictions do come, and no human being is immune when it comes to diseases and affliction, no human body is immune from cancer. Know that. I believe in divine healing. I preach divine healing. I believe in the power of God to heal sick bodies. But in... Despite all of this, my own physical body is not immune to cancer. I think of that stuff very often. My own physical body, I'm still in the flesh. This mortal has not yet put on immortality. This which is corruption has not yet put on incorruption. I'm still a part of humanity. I'm still living in the flesh. Sickness may come to my body. But when it does, there is a Heavenly Father. There is a God to whom I can go. All -powerful, I need not go down in defeat. And a million times I wonder what people do. in an hour of tragedy who do not have a simple confidence in God Almighty. They're defeated. They're beaten. Many give themselves to inward self -pity. We are not only conquerors, we are more than conquerors. In the face of tragedy, seemingly defeat, and even in affliction. The 39th Question, how much knowledge do you have of medicine and therapeutic science? Absolutely none. Now that's being perfectly honest. I have practically no knowledge of medicine and therapeutic science. That's the reason Dr. Kerr, a well -known doctor, was in one of our miracle services. And so many people doing that service were being healed of arthritis. It was one of the very first services he had ever attended. At the close of that miracle service, he went to... my Maggie, and said, may I please ask you just one question? Does Catherine Kuhlman realize that when it comes to arthritis, we doctors can give relief, we can tell what the patient can do for relief, but there is no cure for arthritis? He said, I asked the question because... So many were healed today. One after another being healed of arthritis. And Catherine Kuhlman takes these things so lightly and says, oh, that's wonderful. He said, of everything that I've seen, the healing from arthritis were the greatest miracles because as a physician, I know there's no cure. And when these people say, They've had arthritis throughout their entire body for 20 years, 15 years, and suddenly they're healed instantaneously. He said, that has to be supernatural. Though I know practically nothing regarding medicine or therapeutic science, that's the reason I have doctors on the platform. And often, after a person has been healed, I... Ask members of the medical profession to please step forward and examine the one who's just been healed. And the conversation is between the one who's just been healed and the doctor. For the doctor understands the case better than I do. I enjoy my association with the medical profession. I'm just a Christian, believing that there is no limit to the power of God. What do you regard as the ultimate goal of your ministry? May I go a little further? The purpose of my ministry. is the salvation of the soul. We have been discussing miracles, physical healings. But remember something. The greatest miracle a human being can know is the transformation of a life. Divine healing is so secondary. Please believe me. The salvation of a soul, the new birth experience, is the greatest miracle a human being can know. How do you understand the apparent desire of Jesus and the disciples not to publicize certain healings is the 41st question. I cannot give you the answer. I do not know what was in the mind of Jesus. There have been literally scores of opinions regarding the answer to this question. I do not know what was in the mind of Jesus. One day I'll ask him. Then I'll let you know. The last question. Do you have anything special you would like to say? to Christianity today. Just one. Believe God to the point of action. Remembering always that the only limit to the power of God lies within you as an individual. And to the church, may I say, no nation is greater or stronger than its spiritual forces. And the church today has a great responsibility.
