So it had to happen. Wouldn't that 0:02:45.360 --> 0:02:49.160 be a good sermon? It had to happen. But there 0:02:49.240 --> 0:02:55.160 was a sense in which David's decisions either supported or 0:02:55.240 --> 0:02:59.720 sabotaged his destiny. And we've talked about shortcuts, but today 0:02:59.720 --> 0:03:03.800 I want to talk about decisions. I think it's important 0:03:03.840 --> 0:03:07.560 that we look at David's decisions. One thing that he 0:03:07.639 --> 0:03:10.200 said at the end of his life in Psalm thirty 0:03:10.240 --> 0:03:14.480 seven twenty three gives us some insight as. 0:03:14.320 --> 0:03:19.320 To how he looked at his decisions. And I want 0:03:19.360 --> 0:03:20.840 to give this to you. In the King James version 0:03:20.840 --> 0:03:21.359 of the Bible. 0:03:24.120 --> 0:03:27.320 Well, it's not necessarily a better translation, it's just the 0:03:27.320 --> 0:03:29.680 one that I've first heard it in. It says, the 0:03:29.720 --> 0:03:32.400 steps of a good man, this is twenty three Psalm 0:03:32.400 --> 0:03:38.200 thirty seven are ordered by the Lord, and he delighteth 0:03:39.040 --> 0:03:42.600 in his way. I love that scripture. How many of 0:03:42.600 --> 0:03:48.240 you love that scripture? I love it because I do 0:03:48.360 --> 0:03:52.920 believe that my life is destined, that there is an 0:03:53.000 --> 0:03:56.040 outcome that God intends, or he wouldn't have put me 0:03:56.080 --> 0:04:00.480 on this earth. So David says 0:05:03.360 --> 0:05:06.960 at the end of his life, the steps of a 0:05:07.000 --> 0:05:13.040 good man are ordered by the Lord, and he delighteth 0:05:13.600 --> 0:05:17.200 in his way. What's interesting about the verse is that 0:05:17.360 --> 0:05:22.360 everything in David's early life seems to contradict the conclusion 0:05:22.360 --> 0:05:25.799 that he came to at the end of his life. 0:05:25.880 --> 0:05:31.160 If you think about David's early life after God anointed 0:05:31.240 --> 0:05:34.800 him to be king, he didn't step right into his 0:05:35.360 --> 0:05:40.200 appointment as king. There's always a space between something that 0:05:40.240 --> 0:05:43.200 God shows you and the experience of it. 0:05:44.800 --> 0:05:45.919 And for fifteen years. 0:05:45.960 --> 0:05:49.320 We've been following David over the last several weeks, and 0:05:49.680 --> 0:05:54.839 it doesn't seem like his steps are very ordered. In fact, 0:05:54.920 --> 0:05:58.320 it seems more like Saul is determining his next move 0:05:58.920 --> 0:06:02.440 than God is determining his next move. In fact, it 0:06:02.480 --> 0:06:05.600 seems like he's moving away from the throne that God 0:06:05.640 --> 0:06:10.040 told him he would ultimately occupy. And we find him 0:06:10.040 --> 0:06:14.120 in Second Samuel, chapter two, verse one, in a place 0:06:14.160 --> 0:06:16.719 called zick Lag. It's a surprising place to find a 0:06:16.720 --> 0:06:21.800 future king of Israel because it's Philistine territory. You may 0:06:21.839 --> 0:06:26.760 remember that Goliath was a Philistine warrior. 0:06:27.720 --> 0:06:30.880 How could David be living in the territory of the 0:06:31.000 --> 0:06:32.640 enemy that he defeated. 0:06:33.760 --> 0:06:39.280 But he's on this border between Felicitia and Israel, waiting 0:06:39.320 --> 0:06:41.320 to see what God will do next. 0:06:41.040 --> 0:06:41.719 In his life. 0:06:42.600 --> 0:06:46.080 And he just received news while in zick Lag that 0:06:46.200 --> 0:06:51.840 Saul is dead, which, I gotta be honest, would make 0:06:51.880 --> 0:06:55.320 me want to throw a party, because this is the 0:06:55.360 --> 0:06:59.080 guy who was coming at David's head with spears while 0:06:59.160 --> 0:07:01.680 David wasn't trying to do anything but give him some 0:07:01.720 --> 0:07:05.120 mood music in the palace. This is the guy who 0:07:05.279 --> 0:07:09.159 told him I won't mess with you anymore. And even 0:07:09.240 --> 0:07:11.640 while he was telling him, I'm gonna leave you alone, 0:07:11.960 --> 0:07:12.560 was heading him. 0:07:12.440 --> 0:07:13.480 Off at the next pass. 0:07:13.960 --> 0:07:16.840 And so while we are expecting David to celebrate the 0:07:16.880 --> 0:07:19.440 news of the death of Saul, not only has Saul 0:07:19.760 --> 0:07:22.200 fallen on his own sword and taken his own life. 0:07:22.200 --> 0:07:24.560 Because I got news for you. You don't even have to 0:07:24.560 --> 0:07:28.200 worry about fighting against what comes against you. God will 0:07:28.280 --> 0:07:30.640 kill it when the time is right. It becomes a national 0:08:37.559 --> 0:08:40.400 lamit because after he writes it, he teaches all the 0:08:40.440 --> 0:08:42.600 people to sing it. Look at just a few verses, 0:08:42.640 --> 0:08:45.320 a few bars, if you will. In Second Samuel, Chapter one, 0:08:45.360 --> 0:08:47.920 verse twenty five, he says, upon hearing the news of 0:08:47.960 --> 0:08:48.800 Saul's death. 0:08:48.880 --> 0:08:51.000 How the mighty have fallen in battle. 0:08:52.520 --> 0:08:57.840 He's not celebrating good times, come on, he is despairing 0:08:58.800 --> 0:09:03.600 over the death of someone who was trying to kill him. 0:09:03.720 --> 0:09:05.320 That's kind of strange. 0:09:05.720 --> 0:09:08.400 Jonathan lies slain on your heights. 0:09:09.080 --> 0:09:10.720 Remember Jonathan was his guy. 0:09:11.280 --> 0:09:14.319 I grieve for you twenty six Jonathan. 0:09:14.240 --> 0:09:14.800 My brother. 0:09:16.040 --> 0:09:18.800 You were very dear to me. But in the course of time, David inquired 0:14:12.520 --> 0:14:17.160 of the Lord.
