She made ten cents an hour, 0:17:27.359 --> 0:17:30.600 and this old defeat and poverty and failure just kept 0:17:30.640 --> 0:17:34.719 getting passed down from generation to generation. We 0:22:20.160 --> 0:22:21.320 all make mistakes. 0:22:21.600 --> 0:22:24.919 But the difference between a sin and an iniquity, like 0:22:24.960 --> 0:22:26.200 the first Scripture talked. 0:22:26.000 --> 0:22:28.800 About, is a sin is when we do wrong, we 0:22:28.880 --> 0:22:31.119 feel bad about it, and we say God forgive me, 0:22:31.160 --> 0:22:34.119 and we try to do better. But a sin turns 0:22:34.160 --> 0:22:37.119 into an iniquity when we just keep doing it over 0:22:37.320 --> 0:22:42.200 and over again. Bad habits, addictions, negative thinking, those are 0:22:42.280 --> 0:22:46.600 all iniquities that can be passed down. But always remember, 0:22:46.680 --> 0:22:49.280 if you love God, and I know you do, if 0:22:49.320 --> 0:22:52.600 you have a heart to do what's right, God promises, 0:22:52.880 --> 0:22:56.439 because of your good choices, he's gonna show your family 0:22:56.520 --> 0:23:00.040 line mercy. That means your children or your grandchildren. And 0:23:00.160 --> 0:23:02.080 they may get off course a little bit, they may 0:23:02.119 --> 0:23:05.480 go down the wrong path, but because of the life 0:23:05.640 --> 0:23:09.400 you have lived, God promises he will not deal with 0:23:09.440 --> 0:23:13.120 them like somebody that did not have a godly heritage. 0:23:13.240 --> 0:23:15.919 He will show mercy because of the life you've lived. 0:23:16.640 --> 0:23:19.520 I think about David. He had this same promise that 0:23:19.600 --> 0:23:23.080 a thousand generations would see God's mercy and that someone 0:23:23.320 --> 0:23:25.960 from his family line would always sit upon the throne 0:23:26.000 --> 0:23:30.119 of Israel. Well, what's interesting is, twenty three years after 0:23:30.240 --> 0:23:32.879 David died, his son Solomon. 0:23:32.640 --> 0:23:33.959 Was living very foolishly. 0:23:34.359 --> 0:23:37.399 He wasn't making good choices, and God came to him 0:23:37.480 --> 0:23:41.000 and said, in effect, Solomon, I'm gonna have mercy on you, 0:23:41.440 --> 0:23:44.280 not because of anything you've done, but because of the 0:23:44.320 --> 0:23:45.080 life your father. 0:23:45.200 --> 0:23:45.879 David lived. 0:23:46.520 --> 0:23:50.560 Fifty seven years after David was gone, his great grandson 0:23:50.880 --> 0:23:53.560 was in a terrible time of crisis. He could have 0:23:53.600 --> 0:23:57.640 easily been killed, but God showed mercy, spared his life 0:23:57.720 --> 0:23:58.760 and protected him. 0:23:58.800 --> 0:24:01.359 And once again, it was because. 0:24:01.000 --> 0:24:03.720 Of the promise he made to his great grandfather David. 0:24:04.320 --> 0:24:07.760 Three hundred and five years after David had died, Hezekiah 0:24:07.920 --> 0:24:10.679 was being threatened by all these enemies in the natural. 0:24:10.720 --> 0:24:13.119 He could have been wiped out, but God showed up 0:24:13.119 --> 0:24:15.800 and turned it all around, and he said, Hezeki, I'm 0:24:15.840 --> 0:24:18.720 not really doing it because anything you've done. I'm doing 0:24:18.760 --> 0:24:22.560 it because of the covenant of mercy I made with David. 0:24:23.320 --> 0:24:25.880 Who knows how many times God has shown us mercy 0:24:26.080 --> 0:24:28.719 because we had a praying mother, or because we had 0:24:28.720 --> 0:24:31.159 a father that loved God, or maybe we had a 0:24:31.240 --> 0:24:34.800 great great great grandfather somewhere that lived a holy. 0:24:34.520 --> 0:24:38.720 Godly life. I think about this friend we know years ago. 0:24:38.880 --> 0:24:39.480 He was in an. 0:24:39.480 --> 0:24:43.199 Outlaw biker game. His mind was so messed up. He 0:24:43.280 --> 0:24:45.840 was addicted to every kind of drug you can imagine. 0:24:45.920 --> 0:24:48.639 He was just living a very rebellious life, always in 0:24:48.640 --> 0:24:51.040 trouble with the law, and in the natural you wouldn't 0:24:51.040 --> 0:24:52.320 think there's any hope for him. 0:24:52.880 --> 0:24:56.040 But this young man had a mother that was always praying. 0:24:56.440 --> 0:24:59.760 She was always saying, God, you remember you promised to 0:24:59.800 --> 0:25:03.720 sh oh my children mercy. Well, one day this young 0:25:03.760 --> 0:25:06.399 man got so desperate and he sunk so low. He 0:25:06.520 --> 0:25:08.959 decided he was just going to end his life. He 0:25:09.040 --> 0:25:11.680 was standing in front of a mirror staring at himself. 0:25:12.160 --> 0:25:14.320 He had this bottle of pills and he's just ready 0:25:14.320 --> 0:25:17.359 to overdose. But something down in here told him, don't 0:25:17.400 --> 0:25:19.359 do it. Go to church one more time. 0:25:19.880 --> 0:25:22.480 He hadn't been to church in years and years. He 0:25:22.480 --> 0:25:23.000 didn't even know. 0:25:23.040 --> 0:25:24.960 Why he did it, but he got on his motorcycle 0:25:25.040 --> 0:25:27.639 and he pulled up to Lakewood. He came into the 0:25:27.680 --> 0:25:31.200 service so high he couldn't remember anything he said. All 0:25:31.240 --> 0:25:33.480 he could remember is that he felt a love down 0:25:33.480 --> 0:25:35.760 in here that he had never really felt before. He 0:25:35.880 --> 0:25:38.159 left the service that day and out in the parking 0:25:38.200 --> 0:25:40.600 lot in front of his motorcycle, he got down on 0:25:40.640 --> 0:25:43.440 his knees and he said, God, if you're real, come 0:25:43.440 --> 0:25:45.920 into my life. And do you know that very moment 0:25:46.040 --> 0:25:49.280 his life was changed. All those addictions were broken off 0:25:49.320 --> 0:25:52.240 of him. He got his life cleaned up, and today 0:25:52.359 --> 0:25:54.480 he's a pastor of a church in town. 0:25:54.440 --> 0:25:56.680 Helping other young people that were just like him. 0:25:58.400 --> 0:26:01.560 But I believe that happened in part because he had 0:26:01.600 --> 0:26:05.320 a mother that was praying. God showed mercy on him 0:26:05.600 --> 0:26:08.720 because of the life she lived. That's the promise God 0:26:08.720 --> 0:26:12.040 has made to us up to a thousand generations. I 0:26:12.119 --> 0:26:14.720 love the story of Rahab in the Bible. She was 0:26:14.760 --> 0:26:18.240 a harlot. She came from a long line of immorality. 0:26:18.560 --> 0:26:21.040 She studied the people of Canaan. You'll see that they 0:26:21.040 --> 0:26:23.520 had no regard for God, and it just kept going 0:26:23.520 --> 0:26:27.159 from generation to generation. But one day Joshua and the 0:26:27.160 --> 0:26:30.920 people of Israel were about to attack her city of Jericho, 0:26:31.400 --> 0:26:33.040 and so Joshua was sent two. 0:26:32.920 --> 0:26:34.440 Men in to spy out the land. 0:26:34.920 --> 0:26:37.280 And long story short, they ended up needing a place 0:26:37.320 --> 0:26:40.560 to stay, and so Rahab took them into her home, 0:26:40.880 --> 0:26:43.359 and she hid them from her countrymen. 0:26:43.840 --> 0:26:46.760 In other words, she took a stand for what was right. 0:26:47.400 --> 0:26:49.760 She made a decision that day that she was going 0:26:49.800 --> 0:26:52.080 to serve the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, 0:26:52.119 --> 0:26:55.159 and the God of Jacob. And because of her simple 0:26:55.280 --> 0:26:58.080 act of faith, not only was she and all of 0:26:58.119 --> 0:26:59.639 her family spared. 0:26:59.480 --> 0:27:02.440 But she broke that curse that had drug her family 0:27:02.560 --> 0:27:05.800 down for so many generations. And I love what happened. 0:27:06.040 --> 0:27:09.199 Rahab ended up marrying a Jewish man and they had 0:27:09.240 --> 0:27:12.600 a child named bo As. Bo As married Ruth and 0:27:12.640 --> 0:27:15.920 they had a son named Obed. Obed had a son 0:27:16.000 --> 0:27:19.400 named Jesse. Jesse had a son named David, and as 0:27:19.440 --> 0:27:21.920 you know, David became the king. And if you look 0:27:21.960 --> 0:27:25.560 back today, you'll see that Rayhab, the former prostitute, is 0:27:25.600 --> 0:27:28.919 in the lineage of Jesus Christ. The point I'm making 0:27:28.920 --> 0:27:31.800 today is, no matter what family you come from, there 0:27:31.800 --> 0:27:35.480 may be a long line of addictions, abuse, bad choice 0:27:35.560 --> 0:27:36.440 is negativity. 0:27:36.920 --> 0:27:39.160 But if you will start making good choices. 0:27:39.320 --> 0:27:41.840 If you will take a stand for what's right, then 0:27:41.880 --> 0:27:44.520 you can break that curse over your family. And just 0:27:44.640 --> 0:27:48.000 like Rayhab, you'll begin to see God's blessings and favor 0:27:48.280 --> 0:27:51.800 on you and on your descendants. And so my message 0:27:51.800 --> 0:27:54.359 to you today is to dig your heels in and 0:27:54.440 --> 0:27:57.400 make a decision that you're gonna live under the blessing 0:27:57.520 --> 0:28:04.560 and not the curse. Amen, don't be passing, don't make excuses. 0:28:04.600 --> 0:28:07.040 You got to rise up and take authority over every 0:28:07.080 --> 0:28:09.880 negative thing that's trying to hold you back.
