It is always a joy that 0:01:58.560 --> 0:02:00.160 coming to your home if. 0:02:00.120 --> 0:02:02.360 He come with good news, knowing that God is on 0:02:02.440 --> 0:02:06.400 your side, He rewards people that seek after him. Thanks 0:02:06.400 --> 0:02:08.440 so much for tuning in today, and if you're ever 0:02:08.440 --> 0:02:10.360 in our area, I hope that you'll stop by and 0:02:10.400 --> 0:02:12.600 see us because I promise you will make you feel 0:02:12.639 --> 0:02:14.960 right at home. But I like to get started each 0:02:14.960 --> 0:02:17.200 week with something kind of funny, so listen to this one. 0:02:17.360 --> 0:02:20.160 A professor told his college class that he was going 0:02:20.200 --> 0:02:23.200 to prove that God was not real. He said, God, 0:02:23.200 --> 0:02:25.799 if you're real, knock me off this platform, and I'll 0:02:25.800 --> 0:02:28.520 give you fifteen minutes to do it. With every minute 0:02:28.560 --> 0:02:30.800 that went by, he kept tuning God, saying here I 0:02:30.840 --> 0:02:31.239 am God. 0:02:31.240 --> 0:02:32.040 I'm still waiting. 0:02:32.480 --> 0:02:35.240 At the last minute, a three hundred pound football player 0:02:35.280 --> 0:02:37.840 walked by and heard what he said. He came charging 0:02:37.880 --> 0:02:41.079 into the room hit the professor with full force, sending 0:02:41.160 --> 0:02:44.040 him flying off the platform. The professor got up in 0:02:44.040 --> 0:02:46.000 a daze and said, what'd you do that for? The 0:02:46.040 --> 0:02:48.799 football player replied, God said he is busy. 0:02:48.520 --> 0:02:52.760 So he sent me. All right, hold up your bibles 0:02:52.840 --> 0:02:55.840 and say it like you inte ready. This is my Bible. 0:02:56.200 --> 0:02:58.760 I am what it says I am. I have what 0:02:58.880 --> 0:03:01.360 it says I have. I can do what it says 0:03:01.400 --> 0:03:04.560 I can do. Today I'll be taught the word of God. 0:03:04.960 --> 0:03:09.440 I boldly confess my mind is alert, my heart is receptive. 0:03:09.800 --> 0:03:13.360 I will never be the same. In Jesus's name, God 0:03:13.400 --> 0:03:16.440 bless you. You sound great as usual. I want to 0:03:16.480 --> 0:03:19.320 talk to you today about the legacy that you're leaving 0:03:19.720 --> 0:03:21.560 and about how important it is. 0:03:21.720 --> 0:03:23.760 That we break free from all the. 0:03:23.800 --> 0:03:28.160 Negative things that keep getting passed down from generation to generation. 0:03:28.800 --> 0:03:31.120 It's just like when you go to the doctor's office 0:03:31.360 --> 0:03:34.680 and they ask you for your family's medical history. Do 0:03:34.720 --> 0:03:37.160 you have anyone that's had heart disease? Do you have 0:03:37.200 --> 0:03:40.280 any diabetes in your family line? Is there a history 0:03:40.320 --> 0:03:43.800 of this sickness or of that sickness? They know that 0:03:43.880 --> 0:03:46.440 can be passed down from generation to generation. 0:03:46.960 --> 0:03:47.880 And in the same. 0:03:47.720 --> 0:03:50.119 Way, we can pass down a whole lot of other 0:03:50.240 --> 0:03:53.320 junk unless we rise up and do something about it. 0:03:53.360 --> 0:03:56.320 And it's so easy to be passive, and we just think, well, 0:03:56.360 --> 0:03:58.880 this is just the way my father was. He was 0:03:58.960 --> 0:04:01.520 always hot tempered, and that's why I'm so hot tempered. 0:04:01.880 --> 0:04:04.160 I had somebody tell me just the other week how 0:04:04.200 --> 0:04:07.960 she started having these real bad migraine headaches. And she said, Joel, 0:04:08.160 --> 0:04:10.840 I always knew I was going to have them, because 0:04:10.880 --> 0:04:14.720 my mother had them, my grandmother had them. It's been 0:04:14.760 --> 0:04:17.080 in our family line for as far back as we 0:04:17.120 --> 0:04:20.120 can see. The truth is she had already planned on 0:04:20.160 --> 0:04:23.680 having those headaches. She just basically accepted it and made 0:04:23.720 --> 0:04:25.279 up her mind to live with it the rest of 0:04:25.320 --> 0:04:25.920 her life. 0:04:26.040 --> 0:04:29.120 But no, that is not God's best. You can be free. 0:04:29.560 --> 0:04:31.760 You don't have to live under the curse. You can 0:04:31.800 --> 0:04:34.680 live under the blessing. And some of you today have 0:04:34.800 --> 0:04:37.640 all kinds of junk in your family's bloodline. 0:04:37.960 --> 0:04:39.600 It's been there for generations. 0:04:39.920 --> 0:04:46.200 Divorce, poverty, alcoholism, addictions, negativity. Listen, you've got to rise 0:04:46.279 --> 0:04:48.800 up and do something about that, because if. 0:04:48.640 --> 0:04:51.880 You stay passive and just learn to accept. 0:04:51.440 --> 0:04:53.440 It, all you're going to do is pass it on 0:04:53.560 --> 0:04:54.840 down to the next generation. 0:04:55.400 --> 0:04:58.160 And what a shame to perpetuate it when you can 0:04:58.200 --> 0:04:59.600 be the one to put a stop to it. 0:05:00.120 --> 0:05:02.160 You need to put your foot down and say no, 0:05:02.800 --> 0:05:05.279 this junk is not going to follow me around. 0:05:05.760 --> 0:05:07.080 May have been in my family for. 0:05:07.120 --> 0:05:10.000 Years, but I refuse to live negative. I refuse to 0:05:10.080 --> 0:05:12.720 just live with all these addictions. I am coming out 0:05:12.760 --> 0:05:16.120 in the name of Jesus. The Bible says they overcame 0:05:16.200 --> 0:05:18.560 him by the blood of the lamb and by the 0:05:18.640 --> 0:05:22.240 word of their testimony. That tells me we need to 0:05:22.279 --> 0:05:26.200 start talking differently. Quit saying I just can't get ahead. 0:05:26.680 --> 0:05:30.040 I've always been negative. Everybody in my family has had 0:05:30.040 --> 0:05:33.479 these same addictions. Joel, No, your attitude should be this 0:05:33.520 --> 0:05:35.839 is a new day, and I'm drawing that line in 0:05:35.920 --> 0:05:38.720 the sand. As for me and my family, we're going 0:05:38.760 --> 0:05:40.120 to live under the blessing and. 0:05:40.040 --> 0:05:40.719 Not the curse. 0:05:40.960 --> 0:05:44.320 We're going to experience the good things of God. I 0:05:44.400 --> 0:05:47.760 know today I am reaping many benefits because of the 0:05:47.760 --> 0:05:51.279 way my parents have lived. My father put a stop 0:05:51.360 --> 0:05:52.800 to a lot of the junk that was in our 0:05:52.839 --> 0:05:57.839 family's bloodline, poverty, defeat, lack, and failure. We would be 0:05:57.960 --> 0:06:00.720 under that same curse had he not put his foot 0:06:00.760 --> 0:06:03.320 down and done something about it. And we have to 0:06:03.440 --> 0:06:07.880 understand the decisions we make don't just affect ourselves. They 0:06:07.960 --> 0:06:12.480 affect our children, our grandchildren, they affect future generations. 0:06:12.880 --> 0:06:14.560 And I know today my life is. 0:06:14.560 --> 0:06:18.200 Much easier because I was raised by parents that live 0:06:18.240 --> 0:06:21.400 the life of integrity, a life of helping others, a 0:06:21.440 --> 0:06:24.480 life of kindness. And all through the Bible there are 0:06:24.600 --> 0:06:29.000 examples of where God blessed people because of their parents' 0:06:29.000 --> 0:06:33.040 obedience or because of their grandparents' obedience. And the Scripture 0:06:33.080 --> 0:06:37.400 says here in Deuteronomy thirty, verse nineteen, I set before 0:06:37.480 --> 0:06:43.760 you life and death, blessings and curses, therefore, choose life 0:06:44.040 --> 0:06:48.680 so that you and your descendants may live. Notice the 0:06:48.839 --> 0:06:53.680 choices you make don't just affect you, They affect your descendants. 0:06:54.279 --> 0:06:58.160 And we need to learn to think generationally. What am 0:06:58.160 --> 0:07:04.280 I passing down? What kind of legacy am I leaving greed, selfishness, 0:07:04.680 --> 0:07:09.239 defeat negativity? Or am I leaving a legacy of giving 0:07:09.720 --> 0:07:13.560 a legacy of helping others? Am I kind to people? 0:07:13.840 --> 0:07:16.480 Do I have a positive outlook? Am I really making 0:07:16.520 --> 0:07:19.480 a difference with my life? I read a story about 0:07:19.480 --> 0:07:22.200 a man by the name of Alfred Nobel. He was 0:07:22.240 --> 0:07:25.400 the creator of the Nobel Peace Prize, and it's kind 0:07:25.400 --> 0:07:28.680 of interesting how it all came about. Mister Nobel was 0:07:28.680 --> 0:07:32.720 a sweetish chemist, and he invented dynamite and some other 0:07:32.880 --> 0:07:37.080 very powerful explosives, and most of them were used as 0:07:37.200 --> 0:07:41.280 weapons during the war and for other very harmful purposes. 0:07:41.720 --> 0:07:44.640 And he made a fortune off of this invention millions 0:07:44.680 --> 0:07:48.800 of dollars. But one day his brother died and the 0:07:48.880 --> 0:07:54.120 newspaper accidentally printed his obituary instead of his brothers, and 0:07:54.200 --> 0:07:57.560 in it they described him as the man who became 0:07:57.840 --> 0:08:03.040 rich by enabling others to kill people in mass unprecedented 0:08:03.160 --> 0:08:04.200 numbers men. 0:08:04.280 --> 0:08:06.280 When he read that, his heart was saddened. 0:08:06.600 --> 0:08:08.400 He thought, I don't want to be known for that, 0:08:09.120 --> 0:08:13.960 and so he took his fortune and created the Nobel Prize. 0:08:14.240 --> 0:08:15.680 And still to this day. 0:08:15.840 --> 0:08:21.800 That prize rewards people for making positive accomplishments that benefit mankind. 0:08:22.560 --> 0:08:25.840 And I wonder how many changes we would. 0:08:25.560 --> 0:08:29.480 Make if we could read our obituaries today. Friends, This 0:08:29.560 --> 0:08:32.400 is a call to excellence, This is a challenge to 0:08:32.559 --> 0:08:36.640 rise out of mediocrity. Anybody can compromise here and there, 0:08:37.160 --> 0:08:40.680 not forgiving being rude or crushing people to get to 0:08:40.760 --> 0:08:43.400 the top. That's the easy way out. But what a 0:08:43.480 --> 0:08:46.400 shame to pass that junk down. What a shame to 0:08:46.440 --> 0:08:49.319 make it harder on those that come after us. Well, 0:08:49.440 --> 0:08:51.440 you say, Joel, it's my life. I can live it 0:08:51.520 --> 0:08:54.559 like I want. Yes, that's true, But that's a very 0:08:54.600 --> 0:08:58.320 selfish way to think, because really it's not just your life. 0:08:58.440 --> 0:09:02.120 Your decisions affect people around you. You may think it's 0:09:02.160 --> 0:09:05.600 okay to live negative, defeated, full of self pity all 0:09:05.600 --> 0:09:10.000 the time, but those poor choices are affecting those around you. 0:09:10.000 --> 0:09:12.199 You may think it's okay to be late to work, 0:09:12.600 --> 0:09:15.400 to be rude to your spouse, or to watch things 0:09:15.400 --> 0:09:17.760 that are going to pollute your mind. But each of 0:09:17.800 --> 0:09:22.480 those decisions is affecting people around you. See, people are 0:09:22.520 --> 0:09:26.880 watching you, especially your children. They're taking in every single 0:09:26.920 --> 0:09:30.320 thing you do. They are like video cameras with legs, 0:09:30.640 --> 0:09:32.199 and they're always. 0:09:31.720 --> 0:09:33.400 In the record mode. 0:09:33.600 --> 0:09:36.120 They learn more from what you do than from what 0:09:36.200 --> 0:09:39.680 you say, Like that old saying, I'd rather see a 0:09:39.760 --> 0:09:43.440 sermon than hear one. Any day, when you're tempted to 0:09:43.520 --> 0:09:47.320 compromise and just take the easy way out, I challenge 0:09:47.360 --> 0:09:52.640 you to think generationally. Know that every right choice you make, 0:09:53.120 --> 0:09:53.959 you are making. 0:09:53.720 --> 0:09:56.080 It a little bit easier on those that come after you. 0:09:56.559 --> 0:09:59.800 Every time you resist temptation, every time you go the 0:10:00.000 --> 0:10:03.400 extra mile, every time you overlook that fault, every right 0:10:03.600 --> 0:10:07.440 choice you are making an investment into your future. You 0:10:07.520 --> 0:10:09.959 are sowing a seed for those that come after you. 0:10:10.600 --> 0:10:13.720 I heard somebody put it like this. You never really 0:10:13.760 --> 0:10:18.240 make a choice alone. You're always taking your father and 0:10:18.280 --> 0:10:21.640 your son with you. In other words, you're always taking 0:10:21.679 --> 0:10:24.160 the future, and you're always. 0:10:23.760 --> 0:10:24.960 Affecting the past. 0:10:25.600 --> 0:10:28.800 You affect the reputation of those that have gone before 0:10:28.840 --> 0:10:32.319 you by the decisions that you make today. And so 0:10:32.440 --> 0:10:35.040 when you're tempted maybe to watch something that's a little 0:10:35.080 --> 0:10:37.800 bit questionable. Just imagine you got your son on one 0:10:37.840 --> 0:10:40.280 side and you got your father on the other side, 0:10:40.400 --> 0:10:43.720 because that's who you're affecting. And I realize we all 0:10:43.760 --> 0:10:46.640 struggle in different areas and you may not have the 0:10:46.720 --> 0:10:50.319 desire to overcome for yourself. You may not really feel 0:10:50.320 --> 0:10:53.000 like digging your heels in and changing and becoming a 0:10:53.000 --> 0:10:54.040 person of excellence. 0:10:54.360 --> 0:10:55.319 But I challenge you. 0:10:55.280 --> 0:10:58.600 Today, do it for your children, do it for your family, 0:10:58.679 --> 0:11:02.439 do it for the future generating. Remember people are watching 0:11:02.520 --> 0:11:03.600 us wherever. 0:11:03.240 --> 0:11:06.080 We go, at the office, at the mall. 0:11:05.960 --> 0:11:08.480 At the ball field, and they can hear us talk 0:11:08.520 --> 0:11:10.720 the talk, but they really need to see us walk 0:11:10.760 --> 0:11:13.560 the walk. If we're sloppy at work and we lose 0:11:13.600 --> 0:11:15.959 our temper out there on the ball field, and maybe 0:11:16.000 --> 0:11:18.760 we don't keep our word, then people are not going 0:11:18.800 --> 0:11:21.720 to want what we have. The point I'm making is 0:11:21.760 --> 0:11:26.080 that our decisions do affect other people. Don't be selfish 0:11:26.400 --> 0:11:28.520 and just think about what you want, what's going to 0:11:28.559 --> 0:11:29.680 be the easiest on you. 0:11:30.120 --> 0:11:31.360 Think generationally. 0:11:31.920 --> 0:11:35.120 Think about how it's going to affect your children and grandchildren. 0:11:35.280 --> 0:11:37.280 Think about how it's going to affect those around you. 0:11:37.920 --> 0:11:39.880 Well, you say, Joel, I don't believe in all that 0:11:39.960 --> 0:11:43.800 generational stuff. It's just every man for himself now, with 0:11:43.920 --> 0:11:46.920 all due respect, whether you realize it or not, you 0:11:46.960 --> 0:11:50.560 are being affected right now by decisions that people made 0:11:50.600 --> 0:11:56.160 many many years ago. Habits that you're dealing with, wrong mindsets, addictions, 0:11:56.480 --> 0:12:00.480 areas that you're even tempted in. Studies show that we 0:12:00.679 --> 0:12:05.320 produce what we are. In other words, alcoholics produce alcoholics. 0:12:05.920 --> 0:12:09.839 Negative people beget negative people. Parents that have low self 0:12:09.920 --> 0:12:12.679 esteem most likely are going to have children with low 0:12:12.720 --> 0:12:16.400 self esteem. I read a study that said over ninety 0:12:16.480 --> 0:12:20.640 percent of the people incarcerated today had either a parent 0:12:21.080 --> 0:12:24.600 or a very close loved one incarcerated at one time 0:12:24.640 --> 0:12:28.120 as well. In other words, most of the time, you 0:12:28.160 --> 0:12:31.120 don't just start out having to overcome some kind of 0:12:31.120 --> 0:12:33.920 temptation or having to break some kind of bad habit. 0:12:34.640 --> 0:12:37.199 Very often you can look back and see it somewhere 0:12:37.200 --> 0:12:40.280 in your family line. Somebody gave in to it, and 0:12:40.320 --> 0:12:42.640 now you're having to deal with it. And I'm not 0:12:42.679 --> 0:12:45.400 saying to blame the past, I'm not saying to use 0:12:45.440 --> 0:12:48.920 that as an excuse, but I am saying you need 0:12:48.960 --> 0:12:53.200 to recognize what's happening and make a conscious decision. I 0:12:53.240 --> 0:12:55.240 am not going to be the one to pass that down. 0:12:55.400 --> 0:12:56.800 I'm going to be the one to put a stop 0:12:56.840 --> 0:12:59.120 to it. I'm going to be the one to choose 0:12:59.120 --> 0:13:03.400 the blessing and not the curse, so that me and 0:13:03.520 --> 0:13:06.720 my descendants can live. Some of you have had divorce 0:13:06.840 --> 0:13:10.080 in your family line for generations. You look back and 0:13:10.520 --> 0:13:13.040 see it with your parents and your grandparents, your aunts 0:13:13.080 --> 0:13:15.640 and uncles. Listen, you can be the one to break 0:13:15.640 --> 0:13:16.679 that spirit of divorce. 0:13:17.240 --> 0:13:19.240 Don't let the enemy steal your family. 0:13:19.840 --> 0:13:22.520 Be on guard to keep strife out of your home. 0:13:23.200 --> 0:13:26.080 Do everything you can to keep the peace. Be quick 0:13:26.160 --> 0:13:29.520 to forgive. Don't always have to have your way, don't 0:13:29.559 --> 0:13:32.240 have to be right, put your ego down in order 0:13:32.280 --> 0:13:35.800 to save your family. See, you've got to recognize the 0:13:35.840 --> 0:13:38.880 schemes of the enemy. If you look back and see 0:13:38.880 --> 0:13:42.880 a long line of alcoholism and addictions, then men, you're 0:13:42.880 --> 0:13:45.360 going to have to especially be on guard in those areas. 0:13:45.720 --> 0:13:47.360 I don't just sit back and say, well, that's just 0:13:47.400 --> 0:13:48.600 the way my family is. 0:13:48.920 --> 0:13:48.959 No. 0:13:49.120 --> 0:13:51.600 If you'll dig your heels in, and if you'll start 0:13:51.640 --> 0:13:53.400 making better choices and start. 0:13:53.240 --> 0:13:54.520 Resisting that temptation. 0:13:55.240 --> 0:13:57.400 Then you can make it so much easier on your 0:13:57.480 --> 0:14:00.680 children and on the future generations. And it may be 0:14:00.800 --> 0:14:04.559 difficult at first, you may have to really struggle through it. 0:14:04.840 --> 0:14:07.520 But if you'll just keep doing the right thing, not 0:14:07.600 --> 0:14:09.760 only will you be blessed, but you will break that 0:14:09.840 --> 0:14:13.720 curse in your family. I encourage you to examine your 0:14:13.800 --> 0:14:16.720 life and look at the areas where you constantly struggle, 0:14:17.040 --> 0:14:18.440 and you think, man, why can't. 0:14:18.240 --> 0:14:19.920 I get over this? Why do I have such a 0:14:19.960 --> 0:14:22.600 tough time with fear? Why I always worry? Why do 0:14:22.640 --> 0:14:23.680 I get so angry? 0:14:24.280 --> 0:14:28.160 Many times those have been passed down from other generations, 0:14:28.320 --> 0:14:31.440 and you've got to stand strong and take authority over that. 0:14:31.880 --> 0:14:33.920 You got to make a decision with me today that 0:14:33.960 --> 0:14:36.400 you're going to live under the blessing and all the 0:14:36.480 --> 0:14:39.160 negative things that have been in your family line are 0:14:39.160 --> 0:14:42.720 not going to continue. In eighteen seventy four, a member 0:14:42.760 --> 0:14:45.800 of the New York Prison Board noticed that six people 0:14:45.840 --> 0:14:48.440 from the same family were serving in one of the 0:14:48.480 --> 0:14:51.560 New York prisons, and he was very intrigued by it, 0:14:51.600 --> 0:14:54.040 and so he decided to do a study, and he 0:14:54.160 --> 0:14:57.000 traced their family line back to a man by the 0:14:57.120 --> 0:15:01.160 name of Max Jukes. He was born in seventeen twenty 0:15:01.480 --> 0:15:04.200 and he was known around the town as the troublemaker. 0:15:04.720 --> 0:15:08.280 He was an alcoholic, no integrity, no character, and he 0:15:08.320 --> 0:15:09.400 didn't believe in God. 0:15:09.920 --> 0:15:11.880 He married a woman that was just like him. 0:15:12.320 --> 0:15:16.600 They had six daughters and two sons, and approximately twelve 0:15:16.680 --> 0:15:20.240 hundred of their descendants were studied, and among them, three 0:15:20.320 --> 0:15:24.200 hundred and ten were homeless, one hundred and eighty wrecked 0:15:24.200 --> 0:15:27.800 their lives through drug and alcohol abuse, one hundred and 0:15:27.840 --> 0:15:31.400 sixty were prostitutes, one hundred and fifty of them were 0:15:31.520 --> 0:15:34.920 criminals that spent time in prison, seven of them for murder. 0:15:35.440 --> 0:15:38.400 They ended up costing the state in today's money, a 0:15:38.480 --> 0:15:40.800 million and a half dollars to take care of them, 0:15:41.080 --> 0:15:46.160 and not one of them made any noteworthy contribution to society. 0:15:46.320 --> 0:15:49.320 But around that same time another family was studied. It 0:15:49.400 --> 0:15:52.880 was the Jonathan Edwards family. You may remember he was 0:15:52.920 --> 0:15:57.840 a famous theologian, a pastor, and the president of Princeton University. 0:15:58.320 --> 0:16:01.360 He was born in seventeen o three. He married his 0:16:01.400 --> 0:16:05.080 wife Sarah. They had eleven children. He was a devoted 0:16:05.120 --> 0:16:08.080 family man. He loved God and they stayed married thirty 0:16:08.120 --> 0:16:12.200 one years until his death. And approximately fourteen hundred of 0:16:12.240 --> 0:16:16.880 his descendants were studied, and among them, thirteen were college presidents, 0:16:17.400 --> 0:16:22.240 sixty five were professors, one hundred were attorneys, thirty two 0:16:22.400 --> 0:16:26.680 were state judges, eighty five were authors of classic books, 0:16:27.200 --> 0:16:32.359 sixty six were physicians, and eighty held public office, including 0:16:32.560 --> 0:16:36.480 three governors, three United States senators, and one Vice president 0:16:36.600 --> 0:16:39.720 of the US. Do you notice what a difference it 0:16:39.800 --> 0:16:42.360 makes in what is being passed down? And you may 0:16:42.360 --> 0:16:44.920 be here today and you don't have a great family 0:16:44.960 --> 0:16:48.840 lineage behind you. Maybe you weren't raised by godly parents 0:16:48.880 --> 0:16:51.800 like I was. Maybe all you saw model growing up 0:16:51.960 --> 0:16:57.000 was laziness, abuse, addictions, negativity. But thank God, today is 0:16:57.040 --> 0:16:59.680 a new day, and the good news is you can 0:16:59.720 --> 0:17:02.760 be the one to start the godly heritage in your family. 0:17:04.359 --> 0:17:07.800 You can be the one to reverse that puse. That's 0:17:07.840 --> 0:17:09.480 exactly what my father did. 0:17:10.080 --> 0:17:13.000 Daddy's family they were good people, but they didn't know 0:17:13.040 --> 0:17:16.240 anything about God. They didn't have any dream for their life, 0:17:16.280 --> 0:17:19.560 no vision. They were just very poor people doing their 0:17:19.600 --> 0:17:23.639 best trying to survive. My grandmother worked twelve hours a 0:17:23.720 --> 0:17:26.920 day washing people's clothes. She made ten cents an hour, 0:17:27.359 --> 0:17:30.600 and this old defeat and poverty and failure just kept 0:17:30.640 --> 0:17:34.719 getting passed down from generation to generation. One day, at 0:17:34.760 --> 0:17:37.800 the age of seventeen, Daddy gave his life to the Lord, 0:17:38.119 --> 0:17:40.399 and God called him to preach, and he made a 0:17:40.400 --> 0:17:45.200 decision right then and there that his family would never experience. 0:17:44.520 --> 0:17:46.199 The failure that he was raised in. 0:17:46.640 --> 0:17:48.879 He said, Joel, I made up my mind that my 0:17:49.000 --> 0:17:51.520 kids would never go to school with holes in their pants, 0:17:51.800 --> 0:17:54.600 holes in their shoes, with nothing to eat like I did. 0:17:55.000 --> 0:17:57.680 And thank God he rose up and did something about it. 0:17:57.920 --> 0:18:00.720 He broke that curse in our family. And as I 0:18:00.800 --> 0:18:04.359 said today, now I know my life, my children's life, 0:18:04.359 --> 0:18:08.080 my grandchildren will be so much easier because one man 0:18:08.359 --> 0:18:11.200 put his foot down and did something about it. The friends, 0:18:11.280 --> 0:18:15.840 you can do the same thing. You can do the 0:18:15.920 --> 0:18:19.439 same thing, whatever area it may be. Inn don't just 0:18:19.560 --> 0:18:22.560 keep passing it down. Draw that line in the sand. 0:18:23.359 --> 0:18:26.119 You notice, back in Bible days they took their family 0:18:26.200 --> 0:18:29.960 lineage a lot more seriously than we do today. A 0:18:29.960 --> 0:18:32.399 lot of times it not only tells where a person 0:18:32.480 --> 0:18:35.600 is from, but it'll tell his whole family line. And 0:18:35.680 --> 0:18:38.959 I think it's interesting how so often they prayed to 0:18:39.000 --> 0:18:41.760 the God of Abraham, the god of Isaac and the 0:18:41.760 --> 0:18:44.840 God of Jacob. What they were doing, in effect, was 0:18:44.920 --> 0:18:48.359 reminding God who had gone before them. They were saying, God, 0:18:48.440 --> 0:18:52.280 you remember my ancestor Abraham and how much he loved you. 0:18:52.280 --> 0:18:55.920 You remember Isaac and my great great great grandfather Jacob, 0:18:56.040 --> 0:18:58.480 how they served you and did their best for you. 0:18:59.240 --> 0:19:01.720 And really it's a powerful thing to be able to 0:19:01.760 --> 0:19:04.680 look back and say, God, we have served you for generations. 0:19:05.119 --> 0:19:07.440 You may not have that today, but you can get 0:19:07.480 --> 0:19:10.240 it started. You can be the Abraham and your family. 0:19:10.680 --> 0:19:12.600 You can be the one to set the tone for 0:19:12.680 --> 0:19:13.240 the next. 0:19:13.000 --> 0:19:16.080 Few hundred years. Should the Lord terry. That's exactly what 0:19:16.119 --> 0:19:16.920 my father did. 0:19:17.200 --> 0:19:20.040 Now my grandchildren can look back and say, we're praying 0:19:20.080 --> 0:19:22.160 to the God of John Ostein the God of Joel 0:19:22.200 --> 0:19:25.879 Ostein the God of Jonathan, Notesteine. You talk about getting 0:19:25.880 --> 0:19:28.160 God's attention, that's a powerful thing. 0:19:29.200 --> 0:19:31.760 Well, you may say, Joel, my family looks more like 0:19:31.800 --> 0:19:33.240 the Duke's family. Man. 0:19:33.440 --> 0:19:35.320 When I look at my family tree, all I see 0:19:35.359 --> 0:19:36.200 is a bunch of nuts. 0:19:37.760 --> 0:19:40.320 Now listen, the good news is you can make a difference. 0:19:40.359 --> 0:19:41.400 Don't get discouraged. 0:19:41.640 --> 0:19:44.840 If you'll keep making right choices day in and day out. 0:19:45.040 --> 0:19:48.640 You keep resisting temptation, you keep going the extra mile. 0:19:49.160 --> 0:19:51.959 Then one day, if someone were to study your family 0:19:52.000 --> 0:19:55.160 line years from now, they may see ten or fifteen 0:19:55.240 --> 0:19:58.600 generations of mediocrity. But when they come to your name, 0:19:58.760 --> 0:20:01.040 they'll say, hey, look here's where it all turned around. 0:20:01.280 --> 0:20:05.760 Here's where the curse stopped and the blessings began. Friends, 0:20:05.800 --> 0:20:09.200 you can make a difference. Some of you need to 0:20:09.240 --> 0:20:13.080 dig your heels in today, quit making excuses, quit settling 0:20:13.119 --> 0:20:16.080 for mediocrity, and say, you know what, the buck stops here. 0:20:16.680 --> 0:20:19.280 I'm gonna set a new standing for my family. I'm 0:20:19.359 --> 0:20:22.960 choosing the blessing and not the curse. Exodus twenty verse five, 0:20:23.040 --> 0:20:26.080 it says I the Lord your God, am a jealous god, 0:20:26.440 --> 0:20:30.679 visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to 0:20:30.800 --> 0:20:34.639 the third and fourth generation. That tells us right there 0:20:35.040 --> 0:20:37.600 that our wrong choices can be passed down three or 0:20:37.640 --> 0:20:40.199 four generations. And as I said, some of you are 0:20:40.200 --> 0:20:44.040 struggling today because of things your parents have done. Maybe 0:20:44.080 --> 0:20:46.480 you couldn't do anything about it at the time, but 0:20:46.600 --> 0:20:48.000 thank God you can today. 0:20:48.440 --> 0:20:50.480 You don't have to let the defeat continue on. 0:20:51.359 --> 0:20:54.920 I know people that were raised in a very abusive environment. 0:20:55.000 --> 0:20:56.000 Man, it wasn't fair. 0:20:56.560 --> 0:20:59.199 But you can either go down that same path and 0:20:59.280 --> 0:21:02.359 live negative, bitter and angry, or you can make a 0:21:02.359 --> 0:21:04.960 better decision. You can make a choice for the blessing 0:21:05.080 --> 0:21:07.040 and not the curse and see things. 0:21:06.800 --> 0:21:07.800 Begin to turn around. 0:21:08.480 --> 0:21:11.200 And always remember, if somebody has hurt you and done 0:21:11.320 --> 0:21:14.760 unfair things to you, don't allow them to continue to 0:21:14.840 --> 0:21:17.080 hurt you by hanging on to it and living all 0:21:17.080 --> 0:21:18.360 better on the inside. 0:21:18.800 --> 0:21:21.560 That's what happens when we make poor choices. We just 0:21:21.640 --> 0:21:23.040 perpetuate the defeat. 0:21:23.720 --> 0:21:26.760 But watch what happens when we choose the blessings. Watch 0:21:26.840 --> 0:21:29.200 what happens when we obey God's commands. 0:21:29.840 --> 0:21:31.040 It says in Deuteronomy. 0:21:31.280 --> 0:21:34.879 God is faithful, and he will keep the covenant of 0:21:35.080 --> 0:21:39.600 mercy with those that love him and obey his commands 0:21:39.960 --> 0:21:44.320 unto a thousand generations. Notice how good God is. When 0:21:44.359 --> 0:21:47.280 we sin and we refuse to change, it can affect 0:21:47.280 --> 0:21:51.120 three or four generations. But when you love God, when 0:21:51.119 --> 0:21:54.800 you make a decision to do what's right, God promises 0:21:55.040 --> 0:21:59.440 he will show your family line mercy to a thousand generations. Man, 0:21:59.520 --> 0:22:03.560 that's good news. I can sleep well at night knowing 0:22:03.600 --> 0:22:06.919 that because I'm trying my best to serve God. I 0:22:07.000 --> 0:22:10.080 know he's gonna take care of my children, my grandchildren, 0:22:10.119 --> 0:22:13.919 my great grandchildren, down to one thousand generations. That's a 0:22:13.960 --> 0:22:16.600 long time. After that, I'll let somebody else stick up 0:22:16.640 --> 0:22:20.080 four of it. But I'm not saying I'm perfect. We 0:22:20.160 --> 0:22:21.320 all make mistakes. 0:22:21.600 --> 0:22:24.919 But the difference between a sin and an iniquity, like 0:22:24.960 --> 0:22:26.200 the first Scripture talked. 0:22:26.000 --> 0:22:28.800 About, is a sin is when we do wrong, we 0:22:28.880 --> 0:22:31.119 feel bad about it, and we say God forgive me, 0:22:31.160 --> 0:22:34.119 and we try to do better. But a sin turns 0:22:34.160 --> 0:22:37.119 into an iniquity when we just keep doing it over 0:22:37.320 --> 0:22:42.200 and over again. Bad habits, addictions, negative thinking, those are 0:22:42.280 --> 0:22:46.600 all iniquities that can be passed down. But always remember, 0:22:46.680 --> 0:22:49.280 if you love God, and I know you do, if 0:22:49.320 --> 0:22:52.600 you have a heart to do what's right, God promises, 0:22:52.880 --> 0:22:56.439 because of your good choices, he's gonna show your family 0:22:56.520 --> 0:23:00.040 line mercy. That means your children or your grandchildren. And 0:23:00.160 --> 0:23:02.080 they may get off course a little bit, they may 0:23:02.119 --> 0:23:05.480 go down the wrong path, but because of the life 0:23:05.640 --> 0:23:09.400 you have lived, God promises he will not deal with 0:23:09.440 --> 0:23:13.120 them like somebody that did not have a godly heritage. 0:23:13.240 --> 0:23:15.919 He will show mercy because of the life you've lived. 0:23:16.640 --> 0:23:19.520 I think about David. He had this same promise that 0:23:19.600 --> 0:23:23.080 a thousand generations would see God's mercy and that someone 0:23:23.320 --> 0:23:25.960 from his family line would always sit upon the throne 0:23:26.000 --> 0:23:30.119 of Israel. Well, what's interesting is, twenty three years after 0:23:30.240 --> 0:23:32.879 David died, his son Solomon. 0:23:32.640 --> 0:23:33.959 Was living very foolishly. 0:23:34.359 --> 0:23:37.399 He wasn't making good choices, and God came to him 0:23:37.480 --> 0:23:41.000 and said, in effect, Solomon, I'm gonna have mercy on you, 0:23:41.440 --> 0:23:44.280 not because of anything you've done, but because of the 0:23:44.320 --> 0:23:45.080 life your father. 0:23:45.200 --> 0:23:45.879 David lived. 0:23:46.520 --> 0:23:50.560 Fifty seven years after David was gone, his great grandson 0:23:50.880 --> 0:23:53.560 was in a terrible time of crisis. He could have 0:23:53.600 --> 0:23:57.640 easily been killed, but God showed mercy, spared his life 0:23:57.720 --> 0:23:58.760 and protected him. 0:23:58.800 --> 0:24:01.359 And once again, it was because. 0:24:01.000 --> 0:24:03.720 Of the promise he made to his great grandfather David. 0:24:04.320 --> 0:24:07.760 Three hundred and five years after David had died, Hezekiah 0:24:07.920 --> 0:24:10.679 was being threatened by all these enemies in the natural. 0:24:10.720 --> 0:24:13.119 He could have been wiped out, but God showed up 0:24:13.119 --> 0:24:15.800 and turned it all around, and he said, Hezeki, I'm 0:24:15.840 --> 0:24:18.720 not really doing it because anything you've done. I'm doing 0:24:18.760 --> 0:24:22.560 it because of the covenant of mercy I made with David. 0:24:23.320 --> 0:24:25.880 Who knows how many times God has shown us mercy 0:24:26.080 --> 0:24:28.719 because we had a praying mother, or because we had 0:24:28.720 --> 0:24:31.159 a father that loved God, or maybe we had a 0:24:31.240 --> 0:24:34.800 great great great grandfather somewhere that lived a holy. 0:24:34.520 --> 0:24:38.720 Godly life. I think about this friend we know years ago. 0:24:38.880 --> 0:24:39.480 He was in an. 0:24:39.480 --> 0:24:43.199 Outlaw biker game. His mind was so messed up. He 0:24:43.280 --> 0:24:45.840 was addicted to every kind of drug you can imagine. 0:24:45.920 --> 0:24:48.639 He was just living a very rebellious life, always in 0:24:48.640 --> 0:24:51.040 trouble with the law, and in the natural you wouldn't 0:24:51.040 --> 0:24:52.320 think there's any hope for him. 0:24:52.880 --> 0:24:56.040 But this young man had a mother that was always praying. 0:24:56.440 --> 0:24:59.760 She was always saying, God, you remember you promised to 0:24:59.800 --> 0:25:03.720 sh oh my children mercy. Well, one day this young 0:25:03.760 --> 0:25:06.399 man got so desperate and he sunk so low. He 0:25:06.520 --> 0:25:08.959 decided he was just going to end his life. He 0:25:09.040 --> 0:25:11.680 was standing in front of a mirror staring at himself. 0:25:12.160 --> 0:25:14.320 He had this bottle of pills and he's just ready 0:25:14.320 --> 0:25:17.359 to overdose. But something down in here told him, don't 0:25:17.400 --> 0:25:19.359 do it. Go to church one more time. 0:25:19.880 --> 0:25:22.480 He hadn't been to church in years and years. He 0:25:22.480 --> 0:25:23.000 didn't even know. 0:25:23.040 --> 0:25:24.960 Why he did it, but he got on his motorcycle 0:25:25.040 --> 0:25:27.639 and he pulled up to Lakewood. He came into the 0:25:27.680 --> 0:25:31.200 service so high he couldn't remember anything he said. All 0:25:31.240 --> 0:25:33.480 he could remember is that he felt a love down 0:25:33.480 --> 0:25:35.760 in here that he had never really felt before. He 0:25:35.880 --> 0:25:38.159 left the service that day and out in the parking 0:25:38.200 --> 0:25:40.600 lot in front of his motorcycle, he got down on 0:25:40.640 --> 0:25:43.440 his knees and he said, God, if you're real, come 0:25:43.440 --> 0:25:45.920 into my life. And do you know that very moment 0:25:46.040 --> 0:25:49.280 his life was changed. All those addictions were broken off 0:25:49.320 --> 0:25:52.240 of him. He got his life cleaned up, and today 0:25:52.359 --> 0:25:54.480 he's a pastor of a church in town. 0:25:54.440 --> 0:25:56.680 Helping other young people that were just like him. 0:25:58.400 --> 0:26:01.560 But I believe that happened in part because he had 0:26:01.600 --> 0:26:05.320 a mother that was praying. God showed mercy on him 0:26:05.600 --> 0:26:08.720 because of the life she lived. That's the promise God 0:26:08.720 --> 0:26:12.040 has made to us up to a thousand generations. I 0:26:12.119 --> 0:26:14.720 love the story of Rahab in the Bible. She was 0:26:14.760 --> 0:26:18.240 a harlot. She came from a long line of immorality. 0:26:18.560 --> 0:26:21.040 She studied the people of Canaan. You'll see that they 0:26:21.040 --> 0:26:23.520 had no regard for God, and it just kept going 0:26:23.520 --> 0:26:27.159 from generation to generation. But one day Joshua and the 0:26:27.160 --> 0:26:30.920 people of Israel were about to attack her city of Jericho, 0:26:31.400 --> 0:26:33.040 and so Joshua was sent two. 0:26:32.920 --> 0:26:34.440 Men in to spy out the land. 0:26:34.920 --> 0:26:37.280 And long story short, they ended up needing a place 0:26:37.320 --> 0:26:40.560 to stay, and so Rahab took them into her home, 0:26:40.880 --> 0:26:43.359 and she hid them from her countrymen. 0:26:43.840 --> 0:26:46.760 In other words, she took a stand for what was right. 0:26:47.400 --> 0:26:49.760 She made a decision that day that she was going 0:26:49.800 --> 0:26:52.080 to serve the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, 0:26:52.119 --> 0:26:55.159 and the God of Jacob. And because of her simple 0:26:55.280 --> 0:26:58.080 act of faith, not only was she and all of 0:26:58.119 --> 0:26:59.639 her family spared. 0:26:59.480 --> 0:27:02.440 But she broke that curse that had drug her family 0:27:02.560 --> 0:27:05.800 down for so many generations. And I love what happened. 0:27:06.040 --> 0:27:09.199 Rahab ended up marrying a Jewish man and they had 0:27:09.240 --> 0:27:12.600 a child named bo As. Bo As married Ruth and 0:27:12.640 --> 0:27:15.920 they had a son named Obed. Obed had a son 0:27:16.000 --> 0:27:19.400 named Jesse. Jesse had a son named David, and as 0:27:19.440 --> 0:27:21.920 you know, David became the king. And if you look 0:27:21.960 --> 0:27:25.560 back today, you'll see that Rayhab, the former prostitute, is 0:27:25.600 --> 0:27:28.919 in the lineage of Jesus Christ. The point I'm making 0:27:28.920 --> 0:27:31.800 today is, no matter what family you come from, there 0:27:31.800 --> 0:27:35.480 may be a long line of addictions, abuse, bad choice 0:27:35.560 --> 0:27:36.440 is negativity. 0:27:36.920 --> 0:27:39.160 But if you will start making good choices. 0:27:39.320 --> 0:27:41.840 If you will take a stand for what's right, then 0:27:41.880 --> 0:27:44.520 you can break that curse over your family. And just 0:27:44.640 --> 0:27:48.000 like Rayhab, you'll begin to see God's blessings and favor 0:27:48.280 --> 0:27:51.800 on you and on your descendants. And so my message 0:27:51.800 --> 0:27:54.359 to you today is to dig your heels in and 0:27:54.440 --> 0:27:57.400 make a decision that you're gonna live under the blessing 0:27:57.520 --> 0:28:04.560 and not the curse. Amen, don't be passing, don't make excuses. 0:28:04.600 --> 0:28:07.040 You got to rise up and take authority over every 0:28:07.080 --> 0:28:09.880 negative thing that's trying to hold you back. And remember 0:28:10.080 --> 0:28:12.720 every right choice you make. You're so in a seed 0:28:12.760 --> 0:28:17.080 for later on. Think generationally, pass down good things, leave 0:28:17.119 --> 0:28:19.920 a legacy of faith, a legacy. 0:28:19.520 --> 0:28:21.280 Of serving God with your whole heart. 0:28:21.720 --> 0:28:24.600 If you do that, not only will you see God's 0:28:24.640 --> 0:28:27.800 mercy for a thousand generations to your family line, but 0:28:27.880 --> 0:28:29.920 God will pour out his blessings in your own life 0:28:29.960 --> 0:28:31.600 and you'll experience his victories. 0:28:31.640 --> 0:28:33.960 Amen. Hey, Amen, Well, let's pray together today. 0:28:35.320 --> 0:28:38.160 And we never like to close our broadcast without giving 0:28:38.160 --> 0:28:41.240 you an opportunity to make Jesus the lord of your life. 0:28:41.400 --> 0:28:42.360 Would you pray with me? 0:28:43.000 --> 0:28:46.960 Just say Lord Jesus, I'll repent of my sins. 0:28:48.280 --> 0:28:53.720 Come into my heart.
