Certain 0:03:20.480 --> 0:03:24.760 situations will make it not matter that they call you 0:03:24.919 --> 0:03:29.760 a CEO when there's no peace in your home. There's 0:03:29.760 --> 0:03:33.520 no position on your job that can make you feel 0:03:33.520 --> 0:03:38.240 good about your life. And so that issue that was 0:03:38.280 --> 0:03:41.600 happening in his home brought him to a low place, 0:03:41.640 --> 0:03:44.720 even though he occupied a high position. Now, remember, a 0:03:44.720 --> 0:03:48.080 synagogue ruler wasn't just somebody who stood and attended. It 0:03:48.120 --> 0:03:52.760 was someone who actually had some influence. And yet he 0:03:52.840 --> 0:04:00.560 finds himself at the feet of this rabbi, this radical teacher, healer, 0:04:01.720 --> 0:04:05.800 and he wants to know, will you help me with 0:04:05.880 --> 0:04:09.200 this issue? Now. He demonstrated his desperation by bringing his issue 0:04:54.880 --> 0:04:57.440 to the only one that he thought had the ability 0:04:57.520 --> 0:05:00.320 to fix it. And I wonder if God Is brought 0:05:00.360 --> 0:05:02.680 you to that place in this season of your life 0:05:03.320 --> 0:05:06.480 where the things you used to try are no longer 0:05:06.480 --> 0:05:11.239 relieving the trouble anymore. Because Gyrus 0:06:07.120 --> 0:06:11.200 is asking Jesus to come and do something at his house. 0:06:11.720 --> 0:06:15.719 On the way, he gets interrupted, and now the thing 0:06:15.760 --> 0:06:19.760 that he gets interrupted by becomes the main point of 0:06:19.760 --> 0:06:22.599 what Luke or what Mark writes. Luke wrote it to, 0:06:22.640 --> 0:06:25.039 Matthew wrote it to. When Luke wrote it, he wrote 0:06:25.080 --> 0:06:27.840 it differently because he was a doctor, so he gave 0:06:27.920 --> 0:06:31.320 it from the perspective of a physician. But Marcus is 0:06:32.360 --> 0:06:35.960 classifying this miracle on the basis of action, and the 0:06:35.960 --> 0:06:39.440 Bible says that a large crowd followed and pressed around 0:06:39.560 --> 0:06:43.800 Jesus and verse twenty five. A woman was there. Here 0:06:43.800 --> 0:06:45.840 we go, Here we go, Here we go. I want 0:06:45.880 --> 0:06:48.960 to talk to you about this woman. You ask, what's 0:06:48.960 --> 0:06:51.960 her name? I would tell you if Mark told me. 0:06:52.800 --> 0:06:55.800 I checked Matthew. Maybe Matthew told us. Done this suck to be identified by 0:07:12.080 --> 0:07:16.760 your issue? Last week I preached water walking, and I 0:07:16.800 --> 0:07:19.240 talked about how the first time I ever preached on 0:07:19.280 --> 0:07:23.000 that text, I was preaching at Monks Corny United Methodist Church. 0:07:23.360 --> 0:07:25.000 Then I went on as a sixteen year I've been 0:07:25.000 --> 0:07:28.120 preaching since I was sixteen, and I didn't know anything 0:07:28.160 --> 0:07:34.240 about the Bible. But I was bold. I was boldly. 0:07:35.600 --> 0:07:39.360 I was a confident idiot. I was a confident idiot. 0:07:40.080 --> 0:07:43.520 And I would teach these kids on Wednesday night and 0:07:43.640 --> 0:07:45.600 feed them and then teach them. I was trying to 0:07:56.480 --> 0:07:58.800 make it vid And I said, this woman had been 0:07:58.840 --> 0:08:02.000 subject to bleeding twelve years and she comes up to 0:08:02.080 --> 0:08:05.960 Jesus and she's bleeding all over the place. Because you know, 0:08:06.000 --> 0:08:08.720 I'm sixteen, I'm stupid, and I'm like, she's bleeding all 0:08:08.760 --> 0:08:11.720 over the place. And a thirteen year old boy that 0:08:11.880 --> 0:08:16.360 was there, he raises his hand and I call on him, 0:08:16.480 --> 0:08:20.120 and he says, she wasn't bleeding on the outside, Stephen, 0:08:20.400 --> 0:08:23.800 she was bleeding on the inside. She was hammers saying 0:08:24.040 --> 0:08:26.040 it was a uterine infection. I'm like, how do you 0:08:26.080 --> 0:08:32.480 even know about a uterus at thirteen? It was an 0:08:32.520 --> 0:08:37.520 internal issue, Stephen. You couldn't see where she was bleeding. 0:08:44.960 --> 0:08:53.080 You couldn't see where she was bleeding. Nobody sees where 0:08:53.080 --> 0:08:59.920 you're bleeding. That's a lonely feeling. Nobody sees what dominic 0:09:01.240 --> 0:09:05.400 and depresses you. He sees all things, not 0:10:41.120 --> 0:10:44.680 this time he didn't. The Bible says, y'all believe the Bible? 0:10:45.520 --> 0:10:47.320 Can I read? Can I read the Bible? Or you 0:10:47.360 --> 0:10:49.400 want me to get a doctor, sue, So the places 0:10:49.440 --> 0:10:53.480 you'll go, all right? Well, Jesus did not see this woman, 0:10:54.120 --> 0:10:57.160 but he felt her presence. And that's that's going to 0:10:57.160 --> 0:11:00.360 be important in how I unpacked this, because it said 0:11:00.360 --> 0:11:03.440 that a large crowd followed and pass pressed around him, 0:11:03.880 --> 0:11:05.760 and a woman was there with the subject bleeding for 0:11:05.760 --> 0:11:11.040 twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the 0:11:11.040 --> 0:11:14.840 care of many doctors, and had spent all she had. 0:11:15.120 --> 0:11:18.920 Yet instead of getting better, she grew worse. Instead of 0:11:18.920 --> 0:11:23.520 getting better, she grew worse. Isn't it crazy how some 0:11:23.559 --> 0:11:26.280 of the ways you try to feel better make you 0:11:26.440 --> 0:11:29.880 that much worse in the end. Have you ever done 0:11:29.920 --> 0:11:33.520 something to feel better but you found out it actually 0:11:33.679 --> 0:11:37.720 made it worse. Had you ever ate something to feel 0:11:37.760 --> 0:11:42.959 better and you felt better for five minutes? Ah, but 0:11:43.160 --> 0:11:47.040 about three am the devil sent you run into the 0:11:47.160 --> 0:11:51.679 toilet talking about it felt good. It fixed it for 0:11:51.800 --> 0:11:55.079 a minute. Now you've been doing some things that fixed 0:11:55.080 --> 0:11:58.800 it for a minute. The Bible doesn't say she never 0:11:58.920 --> 0:12:02.719 felt better. The Bible says she didn't get better. And 0:12:02.760 --> 0:12:05.640 I wonder if in this time of our life, this 0:12:05.920 --> 0:12:10.480 time of trouble and transition and trauma and secret bleeding, 0:12:10.720 --> 0:12:13.400 if some of us are running to places where we 0:12:13.440 --> 0:12:16.959 are spending our energy and giving our attention to things 0:12:16.960 --> 0:12:19.959 that promise to make it better but end up making 0:12:20.000 --> 0:12:28.599 it worse. My grandfather didn't have the Internet. He was 0:12:28.640 --> 0:12:32.760 at such a disadvantage. He couldn't just google an answer. 0:12:33.520 --> 0:12:37.720 He had to actually talk to somebody. Luke is a physician, 0:13:56.600 --> 0:14:00.640 so he says, nobody could fix this woman. Nobody could 0:14:00.640 --> 0:14:04.200 fix her. Mark seems to imply that there were some 0:14:04.240 --> 0:14:08.000 people taking advantage of her. Mark seems to imply that 0:14:08.040 --> 0:14:10.080 the motives of everyone that she went to weren't so 0:14:10.160 --> 0:14:13.480 pure and so clean and so clear. Mark seems to 0:14:13.520 --> 0:14:17.360 imply that the founders of Facebook and the proprietors of 0:14:17.440 --> 0:14:23.480 Instagram are not primarily interested in your inspiration, or that 0:14:23.560 --> 0:14:28.200 the news is not primarily interested in informing us.
