🧱 The Potter's Wheel of Discipleship ---EVERYBODY here is a DISCIPLE--- the word disciple means LEARNER---follower or student of someone teaching a way of life… Here’s a question for you--- are you a disciple by default or design? ---BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU COPY… my kids will go out and practice what they saw if they liked it… ---this generation is being discipled--- the question is WHO or WHAT is discipling our kids??? ----Discipleship as a Process: Discipleship is a lifelong journey of learning, growing, and following Jesus, rather than a one-time event ---Matt.4:18--“And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” (ESV) Notice the three key characteristics of a disciple: 1---one who follows Jesus 2----one who is being changed by Jesus 3----one who is committed to the mission of Jesus ----DISCIPLES are MADE not BORN… they are formed, shaped, molded, taught, tested, challenged, empowered, and trusted through JESUS – his word, his grace, his truth, his love, his people, his presence, his Holy Spirit… Jesus’ method of disciple making is about connecting with people in a relational, personal way—the way of cross-shaped love. It is a life-on-life environment, heart-to-heart centered, and obedience focused. It is motivated by love, fueled by the Holy Spirit, and the result is dramatic transformation. Jesus’ method shows us that disciples are handcrafted, one life at a time, not mass-produced in a weekly church service or class. Don’t miss this – disciples are hand crafted, not mass produced. ---ISAIAH 64:8--- YOU ARE THE POTTER, WE ARE THE CLAY--- the WORK of your HAND… a place of molding, shaping, forming, changing, smoothing out the roughness… ---“God loves you just the way you are, but he refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to become just like Jesus.”--it’s about BELIEVING, OBEYING, and STAYING SURRENDERED---these are the ones who know they NEED JESUS, know they aren’t PERFECT but that GOD IS—willing to repent when they miss it—ready for God to change them when needed—willing to follow JESUS even when it’s UNCOMFORTABLE---willing to embrace the NEW THING God wants to do in their life--- ---JEREMIAH 18:1-10 --- NKJV---to get on the potter’s wheel—WATER—SOFTENS you to be MOLDED---repentance and tears opens your heart to be FORMED by GOD--- -Paul tells the Corinthians that acknowledging our weakness actually makes room for Christ’s power- 2 Corinthians 12: 9-10 I will boast all the more in my weaknesses so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses… For when I am weak then I am strong. -Weakness is actually Strength? Paul realizes that living in the power of the Spirit means shining a light on our weaknesses. This is hard for fans- they have mastered the art of making sure everyone knows about their strengths, but that no one finds out about their weaknesses. ---THE POTTER SHAPES THE CLAY --- into a vessel -----AS A FATHER---I am molding, shaping, and forming my kids --- my words, my actions, my discipline, my correction, my instruction is a way of helping them become who GOD has MADE THEM TO BE… ---IT’S A PROCESS--- for the rest of our lives… the second we become hardened we remove ourselves from the potter’s wheel----PRIDE says I AM PERMANENT, I CANNOT CHANGE, I am the way I am, I am stuck in this state----stubborn, dysfunctional, etc… -Jesus invited anyone to follow him- there were no pre-requisites- he called out to the sinners and imperfect men & women--- That same call still goes out today- This group of followers of Jesus were people that were nothing like Him- they were rough around the edges, dirty, known for the wrong things they had done, but Jesus invited them to follow- You & I have been invited to follow- with all of our mess, our pain, our struggle… WHO or WHAT has DISCIPLED YOU??? ----SOME OF US WERE DISCIPLED in DYSFUNCTION… ----SOME OF US had an apprenticeship in ANXIETY… ---SOME of us had an INTERNSHIP in INSECURITY------ 📘 Connect with Us: Explore more about God and get plugged in at Victory by going to https://victory.com/online.
