We hope you enjoyed 0:01:41.160 --> 0:01:41.959 this podcast. 0:01:42.800 --> 0:01:46.200 I'm so excited about my new book, Exceptional You, and 0:01:46.280 --> 0:01:49.600 I'm glad that you've joined us today. I'm here with 0:01:49.640 --> 0:01:53.240 my beautiful friends, my exceptional friends, and we want to 0:01:53.280 --> 0:01:58.000 have a conversation about being exceptional and the fact that 0:01:58.040 --> 0:02:02.160 we all are special. We all have gifts, we all 0:02:02.200 --> 0:02:06.440 have talents. We cannot put these gifts and talents on autopilot. 0:02:06.920 --> 0:02:10.440 We can't expect to just set our gauges and run 0:02:10.480 --> 0:02:13.200 with it. We've got to be intentional. We've got to 0:02:13.240 --> 0:02:16.520 be purposeful. We've got to walk things out every single 0:02:16.600 --> 0:02:20.160 day and reset if necessary. So today I just want 0:02:20.200 --> 0:02:23.080 to have a conversation with you and all my friends 0:02:23.120 --> 0:02:29.560 here about stepping into the exceptional. Hi, Sarah, Mayra, Joanna, 0:02:30.360 --> 0:02:34.240 we got iss Elaine, Vanessa and Kara. Thank you guys 0:02:34.240 --> 0:02:37.560 for being here today. I'm excited about just talking about 0:02:37.560 --> 0:02:41.600 being exceptional. You know, Exceptional was really something that's not 0:02:41.800 --> 0:02:46.280 just good. Exceptional stands out, Exceptional is something to be celebrated. 0:02:46.720 --> 0:02:48.160 Exceptional is unique. 0:02:48.360 --> 0:02:50.680 And I believe that God has called each one of 0:02:50.760 --> 0:02:55.320 us to be exceptional. But too often we walk into ordinary. 0:02:55.800 --> 0:02:59.240 We discount our talents, we don't think we're enough. But 0:02:59.280 --> 0:03:01.160 we want you to know today that God's made you 0:03:01.160 --> 0:03:02.799 more than enough, that He's. 0:03:02.680 --> 0:03:03.919 Given you everything you need. 0:03:04.040 --> 0:03:08.360 You're equipped, you're empowered to become everything that God's called 0:03:08.400 --> 0:03:10.120 you to be. So that's what we're going to talk 0:03:10.160 --> 0:03:13.080 about today. And the first chapter of this book is 0:03:13.080 --> 0:03:17.040 called putting on your Crown. You know, sometimes we're talked 0:03:17.040 --> 0:03:19.760 out of wearing our crown. You know, we're talked out 0:03:19.760 --> 0:03:22.960 of being the person God's called us to be. Sometimes 0:03:23.000 --> 0:03:25.280 we shy away from it. We show away from our 0:03:25.280 --> 0:03:26.160 gifts and talents. 0:03:26.360 --> 0:03:26.680 Yes. 0:03:27.120 --> 0:03:29.040 Yes, Putting on Your Crown was actually one of my 0:03:29.080 --> 0:03:32.440 favorite chapters. It's like the first step to just knowing 0:03:32.560 --> 0:03:34.400 who you are. You have to know that you have 0:03:34.440 --> 0:03:37.200 a crown. So what you were saying in this book 0:03:37.240 --> 0:03:40.240 about putting it on and embracing who you are, it 0:03:40.640 --> 0:03:42.920 was very special because I feel like so many girls 0:03:43.600 --> 0:03:46.440 nowadays don't know that they have a crown, that they 0:03:46.520 --> 0:03:48.280 don't know that they should even put it on. So 0:03:48.680 --> 0:03:51.000 I love that in the book you remind us and 0:03:51.040 --> 0:03:53.040 you tell us that through the word of God and 0:03:53.040 --> 0:03:54.960 through our Father, we have a crown, and to put 0:03:55.000 --> 0:03:57.000 it on and you know where proudly, with confidence. 0:03:57.440 --> 0:03:58.400 It's really good. 0:03:58.400 --> 0:04:01.480 That chapter I talked about being and I talked to 0:04:01.520 --> 0:04:05.080 about my friend Jim, whose mother was going to have 0:04:05.120 --> 0:04:09.120 a baby, and his father came to pick him up 0:04:09.360 --> 0:04:12.080 from school to introduce him to his new baby's sister 0:04:12.120 --> 0:04:14.640 at the hospital. So when Jim got there and saw 0:04:14.680 --> 0:04:18.360 his sister, he was so excited. Well, his father, recognizing 0:04:18.400 --> 0:04:20.919 the excitement, wanted to tell Jim about the day he 0:04:21.040 --> 0:04:23.440 was born, and so he took his little son and 0:04:23.480 --> 0:04:25.200 he sat him down, looked him in the face, wanted 0:04:25.200 --> 0:04:28.800 to make sure he was listening very intently, and he said, Jim, 0:04:29.160 --> 0:04:31.400 the day you were born, he said, we looked at 0:04:31.440 --> 0:04:34.640 all the babies in the nursery window, and the nurse said, 0:04:34.760 --> 0:04:37.560 we could have any baby we wanted. He said, after 0:04:37.600 --> 0:04:39.800 looking at all those babies, Jim. 0:04:39.680 --> 0:04:41.400 We chose you. 0:04:40.279 --> 0:04:44.720 You see, Jim's adopted and his father wanted to know 0:04:44.760 --> 0:04:48.760 the important truth that he was chosen, that he was handpicked, that. 0:04:48.720 --> 0:04:52.760 He was equipped, that he was belonged. 0:04:53.000 --> 0:04:56.120 You know, sometimes we don't feel like we belong and 0:04:56.200 --> 0:05:00.200 Jim's father really wanted his son to know that. And 0:05:00.240 --> 0:05:02.760 I really believe today that God wants all of us 0:05:02.800 --> 0:05:05.280 to know that He's adopted us. 0:05:05.320 --> 0:05:07.920 We are his family. He chose us. 0:05:07.960 --> 0:05:10.640 In fact, you know, he looked down through the corridors 0:05:10.680 --> 0:05:17.200 of time and he knew your name. He said, isis Aleen, Vanessa, Kara, 0:05:17.240 --> 0:05:20.719 all of us he knew us. And sometimes that's hard 0:05:20.800 --> 0:05:21.839 to fathom, isn't it. 0:05:22.040 --> 0:05:24.600 Yeah? You know, as I was just even thinking about 0:05:25.480 --> 0:05:29.039 the title of the book, Exceptional You, and how so 0:05:29.160 --> 0:05:33.200 many people are walking around not really feeling exceptional and 0:05:34.000 --> 0:05:38.320 grasping this concept doesn't really mean like, oh I'm exceptional. 0:05:38.680 --> 0:05:40.720 It means no, I. 0:05:40.760 --> 0:05:45.800 Have a call on my life. God chose us, and 0:05:45.839 --> 0:05:52.000 then our responsibility, response ability is to then choose him 0:05:52.040 --> 0:05:55.960 back and choose his ways and choose his call every 0:05:56.080 --> 0:05:59.080 single day. And so as I, you know, just kind 0:05:59.080 --> 0:06:02.480 of absorbed all the amazing points in this book, it 0:06:02.520 --> 0:06:05.520 really just kind of hammered in that sense of just 0:06:05.720 --> 0:06:08.360 wonder of what God has in store for us, and 0:06:08.360 --> 0:06:11.679 that awe and that feeling of this is a really 0:06:11.680 --> 0:06:17.320 big deal, like being exceptional or receiving the truth that 0:06:17.400 --> 0:06:21.080 God designed us with a purpose and equipped us, and 0:06:21.160 --> 0:06:23.240 all the amazing points that we're going to be talking about. 0:06:23.640 --> 0:06:28.000 You know, it really it's a responsibility And I was 0:06:28.040 --> 0:06:33.039 thinking about that whole word responsibility ability to respond. And 0:06:33.120 --> 0:06:36.799 so when we respond to him, that's how we connect 0:06:37.200 --> 0:06:40.400 with all of those good treasures that He's placed within us. 0:06:40.440 --> 0:06:43.360 You know, it's interesting because we do need to respond 0:06:43.360 --> 0:06:46.640 to God with the ability that he gave us. Even Jesus, 0:06:47.480 --> 0:06:50.400 the enemy came after his worth. Yeah, and I think 0:06:50.440 --> 0:06:55.160 that's really what we're talking about, your worth, your value, 0:06:55.480 --> 0:06:59.600 your ability. And so even when Jesus was in the 0:06:59.640 --> 0:07:02.240 wilder and he had fasted forty days and forty nine. 0:07:02.360 --> 0:07:05.800 He was in a really a very weak state, and 0:07:05.839 --> 0:07:09.680 the enemy said, if you are the son of. 0:07:09.600 --> 0:07:11.320 God, prove it. 0:07:12.200 --> 0:07:14.000 And so I really feel like that the enemy is 0:07:14.080 --> 0:07:15.840 after especially as women are. 0:07:15.720 --> 0:07:17.960 Worth and our value. 0:07:18.240 --> 0:07:20.239 And so today, you know, I just want to talk 0:07:20.280 --> 0:07:23.600 about not having to prove it, but being able to 0:07:23.720 --> 0:07:29.000 respond to the ability that God's given us and knowing 0:07:29.040 --> 0:07:31.120 that we're equipped, knowing that. 0:07:31.040 --> 0:07:32.680 God has already packed our backs. 0:07:33.360 --> 0:07:35.920 You know, it's interesting I talk about how Joel and 0:07:35.960 --> 0:07:38.400 I travel a lot, and I'm telling you, I don't 0:07:38.400 --> 0:07:40.920 know if y'all are liked this, but when I pack, 0:07:41.200 --> 0:07:43.720 before I shut my suitcase, I'm always thinking I'll left 0:07:43.720 --> 0:07:46.200 something out. I'm always look at that suitcase thing. 0:07:46.360 --> 0:07:47.880 I hope I didn't leave anything out. 0:07:48.960 --> 0:07:50.880 And you know, it dawned on me one day that 0:07:50.960 --> 0:07:54.360 sometimes that's how we feel in life. Is there something 0:07:54.480 --> 0:07:56.920 left out? Am I pretty enough? Am I smart enough? 0:07:56.960 --> 0:07:59.480 Am I funny enough? Am I going to get the 0:07:59.480 --> 0:08:01.520 man in my Am I going to get the position? 0:08:02.760 --> 0:08:05.960 But we're more than enough. We have to understand that 0:08:06.680 --> 0:08:10.480 in that worth and value, we're more than enough. Has 0:08:10.520 --> 0:08:13.800 anyone ever felt that way? Or am I the only 0:08:13.880 --> 0:08:15.800 one all the time. 0:08:15.880 --> 0:08:17.000 That's where we need each other. 0:08:17.160 --> 0:08:18.160 That's you know, that's. 0:08:18.000 --> 0:08:21.160 What's so awesome about a group like this. I mean, Aileen, 0:08:21.240 --> 0:08:23.120 you and I have talked a lot about how all 0:08:23.200 --> 0:08:26.520 women and everybody really just kind of has some crazy 0:08:26.560 --> 0:08:28.600 in their head about the way they see themselves. 0:08:29.080 --> 0:08:29.800 Yeah, for sure. 0:08:29.880 --> 0:08:31.440 I mean I think all of us wrestle with a 0:08:31.480 --> 0:08:35.000 lot of deep insecurity. I know I sure did for years. 0:08:35.040 --> 0:08:37.400 Like if you were walking toward me on the street, 0:08:37.520 --> 0:08:40.000 I would like cross to the other side because I 0:08:40.000 --> 0:08:42.960 couldn't even like the thought of having like look you 0:08:42.960 --> 0:08:45.840 in the eyes and make conversation was like terror struck 0:08:45.880 --> 0:08:48.920 my heart. But I just love how like the work 0:08:48.920 --> 0:08:51.160 of the Holy Spirit inside of us. You know that 0:08:51.200 --> 0:08:54.640 God is exceptional inside of us, and he is like 0:08:54.760 --> 0:08:56.720 doing a work even when we don't feel like he's 0:08:56.720 --> 0:08:59.480 doing work and he's cheats. He's giving us that courage, 0:08:59.520 --> 0:09:03.400 He's making stronger. And by the grace of God, you 0:09:03.480 --> 0:09:06.319 and I can get get rid of insecurity. By the 0:09:06.360 --> 0:09:08.760 grace of God, you and I can be strong and courageous. 0:09:08.760 --> 0:09:11.640 And I'm just so grateful that you wrote this because 0:09:12.160 --> 0:09:14.040 it just keeps calling us up higher. 0:09:14.559 --> 0:09:16.120 You know into who God's called us to be. 0:09:16.320 --> 0:09:18.480 I love that you used David as an example, because 0:09:18.520 --> 0:09:21.520 who more than David, right like, like his own father 0:09:21.600 --> 0:09:24.200 looked over him and all the other brothers were the 0:09:24.200 --> 0:09:26.160 ones that he wanted to be chosen. But he was 0:09:26.160 --> 0:09:28.760 out in the shepherd's field, but he rose to the call. 0:09:28.800 --> 0:09:30.480 And I love that you put that on there, that 0:09:30.520 --> 0:09:32.560 he rose to the occasion. He had a belief first 0:09:32.559 --> 0:09:35.880 within himself that he was capable of He didn't let 0:09:36.200 --> 0:09:38.240 that he was the little the smallest one, or the 0:09:38.240 --> 0:09:40.720 one attending to the sheep, but he was the one 0:09:40.760 --> 0:09:43.240 that was chosen and he believed that and he embraced it. 0:09:43.480 --> 0:09:45.360 So I really love that you used. 0:09:45.280 --> 0:09:48.280 David here as an example, because he's an example that 0:09:48.320 --> 0:09:50.880 we can all follow. Just really take the call that 0:09:50.920 --> 0:09:52.280 God has given us and embrace it. 0:09:52.320 --> 0:09:53.960 And you know, put on her count. 0:09:54.440 --> 0:10:02.600 How many times has anybody here ever been left out? 0:10:04.600 --> 0:10:06.040 You have to fight those feelings. 0:10:06.080 --> 0:10:09.120 It's like you were saying, Myra, You know, David walked 0:10:09.120 --> 0:10:13.120 in the room, been called out of the field, and 0:10:13.200 --> 0:10:16.360 there stands all of his brothers, probably all dressed to 0:10:16.400 --> 0:10:19.959 the nines, probably looking sharp, and here he comes in 0:10:20.000 --> 0:10:24.360 his shepherd's gear probably stunk. A little thought, could I 0:10:24.360 --> 0:10:27.880 at least take in a shower, walks in and realizes 0:10:27.920 --> 0:10:31.640 what's going on, then begins to realize I've been left out. 0:10:32.800 --> 0:10:35.880 My father didn't even believe enough in me to call 0:10:36.000 --> 0:10:36.360 me in. 0:10:36.760 --> 0:10:38.079 Yeah, think about it. 0:10:38.080 --> 0:10:40.400 He could have put his head down. I mean we 0:10:40.559 --> 0:10:41.920 all can feel like that. 0:10:42.800 --> 0:10:46.120 Well, that just shows us that being exceptional often looks 0:10:46.360 --> 0:10:51.600 very very ordinary and small and insignificant. While those seeds 0:10:51.640 --> 0:10:55.400 are inside, they need to be watered and developed and 0:10:55.520 --> 0:10:58.400 nurtured so that we can fulfill our. 0:10:58.440 --> 0:11:00.800 Well, you have to know you had to put your 0:11:00.800 --> 0:11:03.360 crown on, right Isis? I mean, you gotta know Isis 0:11:03.400 --> 0:11:05.800 knows about Isis. 0:11:05.960 --> 0:11:07.840 I was just gonna say, you know, when I saw 0:11:07.840 --> 0:11:10.120 the title that chapter, I just kind of chuckled because, 0:11:10.360 --> 0:11:12.840 you know, being a former Miss Houston, I wore crown. 0:11:13.440 --> 0:11:15.160 But it was interesting because I would go around my 0:11:15.280 --> 0:11:18.360 everyday environments to Starbucks or whatever now always with my crown, 0:11:18.559 --> 0:11:21.000 sometimes when I'm just in my you know, every day clothes. 0:11:21.240 --> 0:11:22.880 But I remember there was one time I wore my 0:11:22.920 --> 0:11:23.600 crown into. 0:11:23.400 --> 0:11:25.920 The Starbucks and everything changed. 0:11:26.040 --> 0:11:28.680 I forgot I had it on, actually, and everything changed 0:11:28.679 --> 0:11:31.160 people started responding me different. I got my free coffee, 0:11:31.360 --> 0:11:34.280 and it just made me realize, you know how much 0:11:34.360 --> 0:11:36.520 people respond to you when you have that crown on. 0:11:36.600 --> 0:11:38.480 But God is asking me us just to show up 0:11:38.480 --> 0:11:41.280 and have our crown on anyway, and to expect that favorite, 0:11:41.360 --> 0:11:43.920 expect that you know, that grace from other people, and 0:11:43.920 --> 0:11:45.079 to walk with that confidence. 0:11:45.480 --> 0:11:46.679 I love that, you know. 0:11:46.840 --> 0:11:50.160 I'm sure just being in the world of competition, you 0:11:50.200 --> 0:11:52.760 could have been offended. You could have felt less than 0:11:53.000 --> 0:11:56.359 I mean, you could have compared, and I think comparison 0:11:56.480 --> 0:11:59.480 is the worst thing we can do for our worth 0:11:59.520 --> 0:12:02.720 and our value and our self esteem. 0:12:03.000 --> 0:12:04.520 Did you ever face any things like that? 0:12:04.520 --> 0:12:04.679 Oh? 0:12:04.720 --> 0:12:05.240 Absolutely? 0:12:05.280 --> 0:12:07.400 I remember, you know when I did the Mis Houston 0:12:07.440 --> 0:12:10.080 pageant was my very first pageant, so I felt like 0:12:10.160 --> 0:12:12.520 a fish out of water. I mean, especially being in 0:12:12.559 --> 0:12:15.280 a crazy athletic jock and being a teacher. I just 0:12:15.320 --> 0:12:17.000 felt like, what is a teacher doing on stage with 0:12:17.040 --> 0:12:18.960 all these pageant girls? You know, I just felt really 0:12:19.320 --> 0:12:21.360 just out of my comfort zone. But I knew that 0:12:21.360 --> 0:12:23.240 God had put a mission on my heart to reach 0:12:23.240 --> 0:12:24.080 you girls. 0:12:23.800 --> 0:12:24.920 And that could be the platform. 0:12:24.960 --> 0:12:26.880 So if I could just get over my fear, then 0:12:26.920 --> 0:12:29.320 maybe God maybe God could use it, and so he 0:12:29.400 --> 0:12:31.440 put that confidence in me, and I just thought, well, 0:12:31.640 --> 0:12:34.000 you know, if God called me, then he equipped me 0:12:34.040 --> 0:12:36.200 for this. So I had to put my crown on 0:12:36.320 --> 0:12:38.120 before I got on stage and just say I love 0:12:38.160 --> 0:12:40.400 these other girls, They're great. But what God has for 0:12:40.480 --> 0:12:41.120 me is for me. 0:12:43.160 --> 0:12:45.160 So good. And I think the point there is so 0:12:45.320 --> 0:12:46.520 good isis is. 0:12:47.120 --> 0:12:50.000 Sometimes fear causes us to put our crown, take our 0:12:50.040 --> 0:12:54.280 crown off. Fear of the unknown, fear of the inexperience. 0:12:54.360 --> 0:12:57.520 I mean, David was definitely the youngest, he was the 0:12:58.000 --> 0:13:01.280 had the least amount of experience, you know. But sometimes 0:13:01.320 --> 0:13:04.400 God uses that to push us out of our comfort zone, 0:13:04.400 --> 0:13:08.840 those uncharted territories, you know, and we have to push 0:13:08.880 --> 0:13:09.880 against fear. 0:13:09.920 --> 0:13:11.880 You know. The opposite of fear is faith. 0:13:12.200 --> 0:13:14.560 Yes, But if you know you're equipped, if you know 0:13:14.640 --> 0:13:17.360 God's packed your bags already, if you know you have 0:13:17.480 --> 0:13:22.960 what it takes, then you have enough knowing, enough knowledge 0:13:23.120 --> 0:13:27.280 to recognize fear and to push past the fear, because 0:13:27.280 --> 0:13:30.560 I don't think you ever get enough experience or old 0:13:30.679 --> 0:13:35.160 enough to not feel fear. Has anybody ever felt fear 0:13:35.240 --> 0:13:36.880 in this room besides Isis and me. 0:13:38.240 --> 0:13:41.679 All the time, I think you know fear. I always 0:13:41.720 --> 0:13:44.000 say this spirit, it's a spirit of fear that comes, 0:13:44.040 --> 0:13:45.800 but the Bible says that God has not given us that. 0:13:45.840 --> 0:13:47.440 And alway, think, if it's something that comes at you, 0:13:47.480 --> 0:13:50.000 then that means I either have a choice to allow 0:13:50.040 --> 0:13:50.800 it to come or. 0:13:50.760 --> 0:13:52.120 To push it right back. 0:13:52.360 --> 0:13:55.400 Even from the title of this book, exceptional you. And 0:13:55.440 --> 0:13:58.240 I know everyone in this room we're mom's and busy, 0:13:58.360 --> 0:14:01.120 and but just to sit back and say this is 0:14:01.160 --> 0:14:04.000 about you, this is about me for a second, it's not. 0:14:04.240 --> 0:14:05.800 You know, we read the books on the self help 0:14:05.840 --> 0:14:08.439 for how to raise their I'm past the toddler's stage, 0:14:08.480 --> 0:14:09.680 but if anybody needs help. 0:14:09.520 --> 0:14:10.760 With that area. 0:14:11.400 --> 0:14:13.720 But we do our boundaries for kids, and we do 0:14:13.760 --> 0:14:15.480 things for our work, and we say all the time 0:14:15.520 --> 0:14:17.880 I've been in women's ministry long enough, I said, for 0:14:18.040 --> 0:14:20.800 whatever reason we have in our head that it's selfish 0:14:21.000 --> 0:14:24.960 to focus on what your needs are. But I love 0:14:25.000 --> 0:14:27.640 this about exceptionally you because this is an intentional effort 0:14:27.680 --> 0:14:30.160 to be. This is what realizing what God has made 0:14:30.240 --> 0:14:32.560 us to be, and that to focus on the things 0:14:32.560 --> 0:14:35.040 that God has for us so that we can go out. 0:14:35.040 --> 0:14:38.440 But self care is not selfish. We say that all 0:14:38.480 --> 0:14:41.280 the time and often. But that's what I loved about 0:14:41.320 --> 0:14:44.080 the book too, is it just reminds us of who 0:14:44.120 --> 0:14:48.000 we are and to live that intentionally. I've said it before, 0:14:48.080 --> 0:14:51.120 but one of the things I loved was that word intentional, 0:14:51.280 --> 0:14:54.120 because so many times we wake up and our circumstances 0:14:54.120 --> 0:14:56.560 that things going on will just tend to like be 0:14:56.640 --> 0:14:59.320 a tidal wave coming down and just taking us wherever 0:14:59.360 --> 0:15:02.840 it's flowing day, our emotions are, whatever is going on. 0:15:02.920 --> 0:15:06.200 But this book calls you back to be intentional about 0:15:06.240 --> 0:15:08.520 making the choices intentional, to push away when the fear 0:15:08.560 --> 0:15:11.360 tries to push you off into a box, be intentional 0:15:11.400 --> 0:15:13.400 about Now, this is who God called me to be. 0:15:13.560 --> 0:15:15.560 I am chosen. I have a crown on my head 0:15:15.560 --> 0:15:18.080 when I walk into this room. I want a crown. 0:15:18.600 --> 0:15:21.400 I'm kind of, you know, jealous of that. I always think, 0:15:21.400 --> 0:15:23.120 do they let you just wear that crown always? 0:15:23.200 --> 0:15:24.680 Or do you eventually have to take it off and 0:15:24.720 --> 0:15:26.280 you can only wear it for you and you have 0:15:26.320 --> 0:15:29.080 to pass it along. Yeah, But you know one thing 0:15:29.080 --> 0:15:30.760 I was going to say is, you know I love 0:15:31.120 --> 0:15:32.720 What I love about this book is it teaches you 0:15:32.800 --> 0:15:36.280 to make every day counts you know, make every day 0:15:36.320 --> 0:15:38.680 worth it and it. You know, we always talk about 0:15:38.720 --> 0:15:41.120 being great. Everyone's talk about at least your greatness, but 0:15:41.200 --> 0:15:43.480 the greatness only comes from that day to day living. 0:15:43.920 --> 0:15:47.200 And so these are just so like practical and simple 0:15:47.360 --> 0:15:50.600 things to help you understand, but they're they're transformative. 0:15:50.160 --> 0:15:52.960 Really, because the best you live today will make tomorrow better. 0:15:53.000 --> 0:15:55.640 If you can live at your best today, your tomorrow 0:15:55.720 --> 0:15:58.800 will be better. And you know, just back to your 0:15:58.840 --> 0:16:04.200 subject about mothers, you know, in raising children, and most 0:16:04.240 --> 0:16:09.560 of us in here have children. But I was raised 0:16:09.600 --> 0:16:14.280 by a mother who really thought she was exceptional, not 0:16:14.360 --> 0:16:19.720 in an arrogant way. She never put herself above anyone, 0:16:19.800 --> 0:16:22.120 but she felt like she could do anything and she 0:16:22.160 --> 0:16:25.680 could tackle it, even afraid. And you know, when you 0:16:25.760 --> 0:16:30.600 say that, I think all mothers need to feel exceptional because. 0:16:30.320 --> 0:16:33.080 More is caught and taught. 0:16:32.320 --> 0:16:37.280 And we want our children to possess all that we 0:16:37.320 --> 0:16:39.760 feel like we don't even have, you know, we want 0:16:39.760 --> 0:16:44.600 our children to exceed. And so when we feel exceptional, 0:16:44.640 --> 0:16:47.440 when we feel like God's called us, that He's placed 0:16:47.840 --> 0:16:51.680 an anointing on our life, an assignment, that we can 0:16:51.800 --> 0:16:54.480 do it no matter what the circumstances are, because See, 0:16:54.680 --> 0:16:58.040 being exceptional doesn't mean that everything is going to be 0:16:58.120 --> 0:16:58.720 rosy right. 0:17:00.000 --> 0:17:01.320 Eption doesn't mean. 0:17:01.440 --> 0:17:03.120 You're going to get the red carpet rolled out for 0:17:03.560 --> 0:17:07.520 You may have when you were the girl, but I 0:17:07.520 --> 0:17:10.560 can tell you in real life, right, you're not all. 0:17:10.400 --> 0:17:11.520 Getting free coffee. 0:17:13.760 --> 0:17:16.200 Well, I have a daughter and part of me being 0:17:16.240 --> 0:17:18.320 a mom, and what I loved about the book is 0:17:19.000 --> 0:17:23.000 it really is about kind of unpackaging what's already in you. 0:17:23.000 --> 0:17:24.639 You know, it's not about, oh, you have to do 0:17:24.680 --> 0:17:28.160 this to be exceptional. It's really about uncovering the exceptional 0:17:28.240 --> 0:17:30.920 you that's already in there and unique. And I have kids, 0:17:31.000 --> 0:17:33.000 and I'm raising a daughter and I want her to 0:17:33.040 --> 0:17:34.960 be strong. But more than that, I want her to 0:17:35.040 --> 0:17:37.680 understand who she is, because if she knows who she is, 0:17:38.280 --> 0:17:41.000 then she can be a strong woman. She can be 0:17:41.080 --> 0:17:42.840 who all God's called her to be and it won't 0:17:42.880 --> 0:17:46.119 be about comparison or fear and things like that. And 0:17:46.240 --> 0:17:47.760 sometimes as a mom, I think, you know, what am 0:17:47.760 --> 0:17:49.280 I going to do with my kids? Am I doing 0:17:49.320 --> 0:17:52.680 everything right? And I'm like, should I show them my imperfections? 0:17:52.680 --> 0:17:54.320 And I remember one time I had an opportunity to 0:17:54.359 --> 0:17:57.359 do something and I was so scared. I was like, 0:17:57.440 --> 0:17:59.240 I don't think I could do this, and I started 0:17:59.280 --> 0:18:01.280 kind of getting pains an anxiety. And my daughter was 0:18:01.320 --> 0:18:03.160 in the back seat, and I remember the Holy Spair 0:18:03.240 --> 0:18:07.280 just saying stop, you're doing this for her, and I thought, 0:18:07.320 --> 0:18:09.320 you know what, I am doing this and she saw 0:18:09.320 --> 0:18:11.600 how nervous I was. She saw me. She was like, Mommy, 0:18:11.640 --> 0:18:13.480 are you okay? And I'm like, I'm fine, you know, 0:18:13.840 --> 0:18:16.280 super nervous. But I just had that piece that you 0:18:16.280 --> 0:18:18.640 know what, I'm doing this for me, but really I'm 0:18:18.640 --> 0:18:20.760 even doing it more for her so she can see 0:18:20.920 --> 0:18:24.600 overcome fear, overcome that anxiety, and anything that I had 0:18:24.600 --> 0:18:26.040 I want her to have. I kind of have to 0:18:26.080 --> 0:18:28.800 uncover it myself and be that example so that she's 0:18:28.920 --> 0:18:31.199 catching more than I'm saying do this, do this, but 0:18:31.280 --> 0:18:33.919 really I'm showing her how to be exceptional, how to 0:18:34.200 --> 0:18:37.520 uncover the uniqust that's you know, individual and underneath us all. 0:18:37.720 --> 0:18:37.920 See. 0:18:37.960 --> 0:18:40.159 I love that so much because I've literally said to 0:18:40.240 --> 0:18:44.359 myself before, if your kids were doing this, what would 0:18:44.400 --> 0:18:44.960 you tell them? 0:18:45.080 --> 0:18:48.520 Yeah, yeah, what would you want to say to them? 0:18:49.119 --> 0:18:51.879 You would say you can do this, You would say 0:18:52.040 --> 0:18:55.119 take it a day at a time, gain experience. That's 0:18:55.200 --> 0:18:57.640 the only way you're going to gain And I had 0:18:57.680 --> 0:18:59.840 to talk to myself, that's what you would tell your kids, 0:19:00.359 --> 0:19:02.200 and you really be kind of mad if they. 0:19:02.080 --> 0:19:02.960 Don't do it. 0:19:03.160 --> 0:19:06.639 So you can just get mad at yourself. Get going, girl, 0:19:07.040 --> 0:19:10.800 get off dead center. And so I think sometimes when 0:19:10.840 --> 0:19:12.760 we do understand that, and you know, a lot of 0:19:12.800 --> 0:19:16.480 people don't have kids. But the truth is, what would 0:19:16.480 --> 0:19:19.160 you say to your younger self? You know, what would 0:19:19.240 --> 0:19:22.959 you say now that you know more? And so I 0:19:23.000 --> 0:19:27.720 think this living exceptional is, like you said, unpacking what's 0:19:28.080 --> 0:19:31.359 already packed on the inside of you. Understanding that God 0:19:31.400 --> 0:19:34.679 created you. He's never going to leave you alone. He 0:19:34.880 --> 0:19:35.760 is for you. 0:19:35.760 --> 0:19:35.960 You know. 0:19:36.080 --> 0:19:40.360 When God came to Moses and gave him an assignment, 0:19:41.160 --> 0:19:45.360 the first thing Moses said was I can't. Yeah, And 0:19:45.400 --> 0:19:47.760 it's the first thing I've heard my say self say 0:19:47.840 --> 0:19:52.080 many times, I can't because it's just an excuse, it's 0:19:52.080 --> 0:19:56.240 a delay. I love what God said to Moses. He said, 0:19:56.800 --> 0:19:59.600 you know who made your mouth? Who gave you that 0:19:59.640 --> 0:19:59.920 a bill? 0:20:00.760 --> 0:20:04.280 He's basically saying, Moses, who packed your bags? I did? 0:20:04.520 --> 0:20:07.439 If I've given you assignment, I've already equipped you for 0:20:07.560 --> 0:20:11.120 the assignment, and so I think it's easy to make excuses. 0:20:11.160 --> 0:20:14.400 I think probably every one of us have made those excuses. 0:20:15.200 --> 0:20:17.359 And I think that's what is so beautiful on the book, 0:20:17.440 --> 0:20:20.640 how you bring stories from the Bible but also stories 0:20:20.640 --> 0:20:24.439 from everyday people, and you see how practical and how 0:20:24.840 --> 0:20:28.040 life can be really exceptional when you follow those principles 0:20:28.080 --> 0:20:30.000 that got told us to love each other, you know, 0:20:30.119 --> 0:20:33.679 to he put those gifts inside you, that his plans 0:20:33.680 --> 0:20:35.920 for you are to prosper, that he has good things 0:20:35.960 --> 0:20:38.520 for you in life. So I really took that from 0:20:38.600 --> 0:20:42.040 the book. It felt like a new beginning. It felt 0:20:42.119 --> 0:20:45.840 like a refresher, whether you are just starting or you're 0:20:46.320 --> 0:20:47.679 in the middle of your journey. 0:20:47.720 --> 0:20:50.560 It really felt that way. That is a refreshing. 0:20:50.560 --> 0:20:53.679 It's a bond and the coming towards you, you know, 0:20:53.760 --> 0:20:55.520 with the scriptors and the stories. 0:20:55.920 --> 0:20:56.560 That's so good. 0:20:56.640 --> 0:20:59.040 I really do believe we have to hit the reset. 0:20:59.080 --> 0:21:02.880 But you know, we can't just go on Autopilotte. We've 0:21:02.920 --> 0:21:06.760 got to hit reset. We've got to figure out you know, 0:21:07.480 --> 0:21:10.439 yesterday was good, but today can be even better no 0:21:10.480 --> 0:21:14.720 matter what happened yesterday. You know, yesterday's over and today's 0:21:14.720 --> 0:21:16.560 a new day and I love God's mercies. 0:21:16.800 --> 0:21:19.600 Thank you for listening to the Exceptional You podcast with 0:21:19.680 --> 0:21:23.119 Victoria Ostein and friends.
