Yesterday I was 0:03:11.240 --> 0:03:13.000 reading the Word, and I told people to sit down 0:03:13.040 --> 0:03:15.080 and get comfortable if they would like. But then I 0:03:15.160 --> 0:03:17.560 learned that you all actually stand for the reading of 0:03:17.600 --> 0:03:20.240 the Word. So I'm gonna ask that you honor the 0:03:20.280 --> 0:03:25.120 custom of this house. Verse sixty nine begins and it says, 0:03:25.160 --> 0:03:29.320 now Peter sat outside in the courtyard, and a servant 0:03:29.360 --> 0:03:33.480 girl came to him, saying, you also were with Jesus 0:03:33.520 --> 0:03:37.520 of Galilee. You are the only one who 0:04:46.480 --> 0:04:49.240 can take one message and allow it to hit everyone 0:04:49.360 --> 0:04:52.200 in different ways. You are the only one who knows 0:04:52.240 --> 0:04:55.680 every need, every burden, every issue that came into this room, 0:04:55.720 --> 0:04:59.400 and you, and you alone can speak breakthrough and power 0:04:59.520 --> 0:05:03.039 and victim and healing. Those words bless 0:05:54.000 --> 0:05:57.479 me not just because of the reason that I found 0:05:57.480 --> 0:06:01.159 one studying, but when I see them on a store, 0:06:01.440 --> 0:06:05.520 it speaks to me that God is really looking out 0:06:07.480 --> 0:06:11.200 for my finances in this season, said God, I prayed 0:06:11.200 --> 0:06:13.880 for savings, and you put my favorite store on sale. 0:06:14.000 --> 0:06:18.960 How great is your mercy towards me? Everything must go? 0:06:19.960 --> 0:06:22.280 And that used to make me so excited because I 0:06:22.360 --> 0:06:24.480 knew that when I walked into the store that they 0:06:24.480 --> 0:06:28.000 would be willing to discount even further items that I 0:06:28.000 --> 0:06:30.800 had been waiting to get for a very long time. 0:06:31.160 --> 0:06:32.960 And so when I went home and I told my 0:06:33.040 --> 0:06:35.840 husband that I finally got something that I'd been looking for, 0:06:35.960 --> 0:06:38.400 I could tell him, but honey, it was on sale, 0:06:38.520 --> 0:06:43.160 and so we saved money. I didn't spend money. Now 0:06:43.200 --> 0:06:45.960 that I am a business owner, though, I realized that 0:06:46.320 --> 0:06:49.240 when they put those words outside of the store, it's 0:06:49.279 --> 0:06:53.760 not just because they want to bless my spirit. And because they have new inventory coming in, 0:07:03.240 --> 0:07:05.839 they have to get rid of everything that is no 0:07:05.960 --> 0:07:09.520 longer profitable so that that which is profitable can take 0:07:09.560 --> 0:07:16.760 its place. What if we as believers started to treat 0:07:16.800 --> 0:07:21.520 our life with that same level of philosophy, that we 0:07:21.560 --> 0:07:25.560 looked within ourselves and said everything must go that is 0:07:25.640 --> 0:07:30.120 no longer profitable so that that which is profitable can 0:07:30.200 --> 0:07:34.080 come in. How much powerful would we be if we 0:07:34.480 --> 0:07:37.119 looked at our bitterness and said, no, you can't stay 0:07:37.160 --> 0:07:39.520 because you're taking a place where my joy could be. 0:07:40.880 --> 0:07:43.120 What if we looked at our misery and said, no, 0:07:43.320 --> 0:07:45.800 you can't stay because you're taking up space where my 0:07:46.200 --> 0:07:48.760 purpose could be. What if we started to say, depression, 0:07:48.840 --> 0:07:51.360 you can't stay here. Joy is in your place. You 0:07:51.480 --> 0:07:54.200 got to make room, and everything must go. This is 0:07:54.240 --> 0:07:58.960 a mindset that we should have. But because we don't 0:07:58.960 --> 0:08:03.360 always have this mind and said, God creates these situations, 0:08:03.480 --> 0:08:07.640 these scenarios that force us to put that which is 0:08:07.720 --> 0:08:11.520 no longer profitable on sale so that it can be 0:08:11.600 --> 0:08:15.600 stripped away to make room for what is profitable. When 0:08:15.600 --> 0:08:18.440 we find my friend Peter in this text, he is 0:08:18.520 --> 0:08:22.720 going through that exact process Now, because we've heard this 0:08:22.840 --> 0:08:25.640 story so many times, it can be easy for us 0:08:25.680 --> 0:08:28.280 to believe that he's going to be all right in 0:08:28.320 --> 0:08:30.560 the end. But that's because we know the end from 0:08:30.640 --> 0:08:34.440 the beginning. But imagine with me being Peter in this moment. 0:08:35.760 --> 0:08:38.679 This is not the same Peter who's walking on water 0:08:38.800 --> 0:08:42.280 in front of Jesus. This is not the same Peter 0:08:42.360 --> 0:08:47.440 who is watching Jesus perform miracle after miracle. This is 0:08:47.559 --> 0:08:54.280 a defeated Peter. This Peter left everything he knew and 0:08:54.400 --> 0:08:57.840 he began to follow Jesus. He was connected to hope, 0:08:57.880 --> 0:09:01.240 he was connected to faith. He would see signs and 0:09:01.360 --> 0:09:04.440 wonders all of the time. And now all of a sudden, 0:09:04.520 --> 0:09:07.760 that which he knew so well he is disconnected from. 0:09:09.280 --> 0:09:12.760 And in the process of being disconnected from that faith, 0:09:12.840 --> 0:09:16.520 his change begins to occur, and he's no longer the 0:09:16.600 --> 0:09:20.680 person he used to be. I know we'd like to 0:09:20.679 --> 0:09:23.800 say that that is exclusive to Peter's experience, but if 0:09:23.800 --> 0:09:26.560 we are honest, we look back over our lives and 0:09:26.600 --> 0:09:29.000 we recognize that there are moments where I used to 0:09:29.040 --> 0:09:34.200 be so full of faith. I used to be so 0:09:34.440 --> 0:09:37.680 connected to my faith. There was nothing off limits. I 0:09:37.720 --> 0:09:40.920 had faith for my marriage. I had faith for my children. 0:09:41.000 --> 0:09:43.800 I had faith that that dream, that purpose was going 0:09:43.880 --> 0:09:46.000 to be manifest and that it was going to change 0:09:46.040 --> 0:09:48.160 the world. And now I'm just lucky if I get 0:09:48.200 --> 0:09:50.520 from day to day. I used to have faith. I 0:09:50.640 --> 0:09:53.480 used to believe that I could do absolutely anything. But 0:09:53.559 --> 0:09:56.720 for some reason, now I'm connected from my faith. What 0:09:56.800 --> 0:09:59.200 I love about this is that for Peter, his faith 0:09:59.360 --> 0:10:02.960 was taken from him. His hope was taken from him. 0:10:04.200 --> 0:10:08.800 Have you ever had hope just stripped out of your hands. 0:10:10.480 --> 0:10:13.120 I thought that things would be one way, but one 0:10:13.120 --> 0:10:16.800 phone call, one incident, and now all of a sudden, 0:10:16.840 --> 0:10:22.320 all of my faith has been stripped away. I never 0:10:22.360 --> 0:10:25.480 thought that I would be the one going through a divorce. 0:10:25.520 --> 0:10:27.600 I thought that we would make it to the long hold, 0:10:27.600 --> 0:10:32.040 but my faith got stripped away. I never thought that 0:10:32.120 --> 0:10:34.240 I would be the one who didn't know how I 0:10:34.360 --> 0:10:36.560 was going to make ends meet. But for some reason, 0:10:36.640 --> 0:10:39.640 my faith got stripped away. When we find Peter in 0:10:39.679 --> 0:10:44.520 this text, his faith has been stripped away. And when 0:10:44.600 --> 0:10:47.560 your faith is stripped away, it changes how you see 0:10:47.600 --> 0:10:50.880 the world. It changes how you engage and how you interact. 0:10:50.960 --> 0:10:53.400 There are people in this room who haven't really felt 0:10:53.440 --> 0:10:56.360 like themselves in such a very long time. And if 0:10:56.400 --> 0:10:59.760 we retraced your steps and retraced your history, we would 0:10:59.760 --> 0:11:02.360 find that it was all because of one incident that 0:11:02.480 --> 0:11:07.840 changed the way you saw everything. I witnessed something, and 0:11:08.720 --> 0:11:10.880 I saw the worst of people. And when I saw 0:11:10.920 --> 0:11:13.360 the worst of people, it made me stop believing in 0:11:13.440 --> 0:11:17.800 the best of them. And so now I've become a 0:11:17.840 --> 0:11:23.840 cynic disconnected from hope, and every time I close my 0:11:23.880 --> 0:11:27.120 eyes at night, I remember that person I used to be. 0:11:28.720 --> 0:11:30.839 But as I was praying and I was pressing in, 0:11:31.080 --> 0:11:35.000 I felt like God was saying that everything must go, 0:11:36.760 --> 0:11:39.840 That everything that is not profitable, that everything that has 0:11:40.800 --> 0:11:42.800 no value for what he wants to do in our 0:11:42.880 --> 0:11:45.960 life has to go. That maybe, just maybe, as we 0:11:46.080 --> 0:11:49.360 filter through our lives, and we filter through our memories 0:11:49.360 --> 0:11:52.440 and our emotions, we will recognize that we picked up 0:11:52.480 --> 0:11:55.600 some habits and some patterns and some thoughts that we 0:11:55.640 --> 0:11:58.080 shouldn't have. And we're at a season right now where 0:11:58.080 --> 0:12:01.760 I can't go to next unless I lean out back there. 0:12:06.240 --> 0:12:09.560 Peter is in between the cusp of walking with Jesus 0:12:09.600 --> 0:12:12.640 and becoming the rock in which Jesus would build his church, 0:12:14.240 --> 0:12:17.880 so it's not actually that he's disconnected from his faith. 0:12:17.920 --> 0:12:21.160 It's not that he's disconnected from Jesus. It's just that 0:12:21.280 --> 0:12:25.240 Jesus is shifting, and as Jesus is shifting, then Peter 0:12:25.440 --> 0:12:29.760 is having to elevate who he is as well. And I 0:12:46.440 --> 0:12:49.160 called you to be a kingdom agent in this world, 0:12:49.320 --> 0:12:52.800 so I'm constantly expanding your capacity. I'm trying to see 0:12:52.840 --> 0:12:55.200 how hungry you are to hear from me. I'm trying 0:12:55.240 --> 0:12:57.280 to see how desperate you are to get a word 0:12:57.320 --> 0:12:59.880 from me. So I'm not staying within reach. I'm trying 0:12:59.880 --> 0:13:03.000 to stretched you into the next dimension. Peter. I know 0:13:03.040 --> 0:13:05.280 you're used to walking with me, but can you press 0:13:05.320 --> 0:13:09.040 in and show me that you have taken in what 0:13:09.080 --> 0:13:13.320 you used to once take for granted. I hear God 0:13:13.400 --> 0:13:16.400 saying it's in you. I hear God saying that you 0:13:16.480 --> 0:13:19.400 are depending on faith in one arena that you thought 0:13:19.440 --> 0:13:22.600 your help came from a job, not recognizing that he's 0:13:22.640 --> 0:13:25.320 going to be your provider. So I stripped the job 0:13:25.360 --> 0:13:27.480 away so that you can see man didn't have to 0:13:27.520 --> 0:13:29.800 write you a check that I would make a way 0:13:29.840 --> 0:13:32.480 for you to make it anyway. I hear God saying 0:13:32.800 --> 0:13:34.840 I had to move some people out of your life 0:13:34.880 --> 0:13:37.560 because you were beginning to worship them. And I need 0:13:37.600 --> 0:13:39.040 you to know that at the end of the day, 0:13:39.080 --> 0:13:42.160 if all you have is me, that that's more than enough. 0:13:42.200 --> 0:13:45.760 There's a greater is He mentality that is coming back 0:13:45.800 --> 0:13:49.240 into your situation. Everything. So my friend Peter is in 0:16:14.280 --> 0:16:19.600 between walking with Jesus and becoming the rock in which 0:16:19.680 --> 0:16:25.640 Christ will build his church. But in this moment, he's 0:16:25.760 --> 0:16:30.480 lost and he doesn't know what to think because he's 0:16:30.480 --> 0:16:35.720 been disconnected. And so Peter, I love this because before 0:16:35.760 --> 0:16:39.000 any of this happened, they're at the Last Supper and 0:16:39.120 --> 0:16:43.320 Jesus says to Peter, before the rooster crows three times, 0:16:43.320 --> 0:16:47.680 you're gonna deny me. And Peter was like child, I 0:16:47.720 --> 0:16:53.200 would never ever you, my boy, we've been rolling, man. 0:16:55.160 --> 0:16:58.720 But he says, I see something in you that's got 0:16:58.720 --> 0:17:01.720 to come out of you, and it's got to come 0:17:01.760 --> 0:17:03.800 out of you in order for you to access the 0:17:03.840 --> 0:17:07.800 next dimension of who you are. And so I have 0:17:07.960 --> 0:17:11.359 to move myself out of the way, because if I 0:17:11.400 --> 0:17:13.520 don't move myself out of the way, then you won't 0:17:13.560 --> 0:17:16.280 deny me, and then that issue won't rise to the surface. 0:17:17.359 --> 0:17:19.639 And if that issue doesn't rise to the surface, I 0:17:19.680 --> 0:17:24.960 can't build my church on you. So God moves things 0:17:25.960 --> 0:17:29.720 out of the way so that our issues can rise 0:17:29.760 --> 0:17:34.040 to the surface. And I just want you to know, 0:17:34.119 --> 0:17:37.080 because some of you got so many issues rising to 0:17:37.119 --> 0:17:40.720 the surface right now that you're ready to give up, 0:17:42.560 --> 0:17:51.199 so many memories and thoughts rising to the surface. But 0:17:51.280 --> 0:17:53.240 what I love about this is if Peter gets this 0:17:53.359 --> 0:17:56.040 out of his system, this denial out of the way 0:17:57.000 --> 0:18:00.520 one time, he never has to be the person who 0:18:00.560 --> 0:18:06.720 denied Jesus again. That if I confront what's in me, 0:18:08.359 --> 0:18:12.640 then it makes space for what's on me to reach 0:18:12.680 --> 0:18:18.080 its fullest potential. And I know that some of our 0:18:18.240 --> 0:18:21.280 families and some of us are more comfortable when we 0:18:21.320 --> 0:18:24.000 don't let those issues rise to the surface because we 0:18:24.040 --> 0:18:28.880 want to avoid conflict. But as long as it exists 0:18:28.920 --> 0:18:34.240 within you, then you are conflicted and divided.
