CONFRONTING THE PETER PAN SYNDROME | PAUL DAUGHERTY | EPHESIANS 4:1-12
Paul DaughertyAbout this sermon
Confronting the Peter Pan Syndrome — Ephesians 4 (Spiritual Maturity & Growing Up in Christ) What happens when we resist growing up spiritually? In Ephesians 4, Paul the Apostle reminds us: you’re not who you were, you’re called, chosen, saved by grace, and equipped for a higher calling. But with identity comes responsibility. It’s time to confront the Peter Pan Syndrome: the refusal to grow up and step into spiritual maturity. From tantrums over barbecue sauce 🍗 to the dangers of living in “Neverland,” this message blends humor, real stories, and biblical truth to challenge us to grow beyond immaturity. Paul says: “Grow up healthy in God, robust in love” (Eph. 4:15–16). 🛑 No more avoiding responsibility. 🛑 No more emotional immaturity. 🛑 No more entitlement and spiritual complacency. ✅ Instead: embrace correction, take responsibility, break free from insecurity, and walk worthy of the calling you’ve received. 👣 Key Takeaways • Identity precedes lifestyle: you’re not what you’ve done—you’re a child of God. • A “worthy walk” requires humility, gentleness, patience, and unity. • God gave gifts (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher) to EQUIP us. • “Neverland” may feel safe, but growth requires change, responsibility, and maturity. • Spiritual growth means surrendering selfishness and embracing service, just like Jesus. 📖 Scriptures Featured Ephesians 4:1–16 • 1 Corinthians 13:11 • Hebrews 12 • Romans 12:3 • 1 John 4:4 🔥 This Week’s Challenge - Take responsibility in one area of your faith (Bible reading, prayer, worship, serving). - Break free from insecurity by choosing humility and repentance. - Write down one childish thing you need to put away (1 Cor. 13:11) and surrender it to God. 💬 Question of the Day Which step of spiritual growth (letting go, taking responsibility, breaking insecurity, embracing change, or serving) is God asking you to take right now?
