The other day I picked up an old hymn book, and I was leafing through its pages, and I found an old hymn that was written by Charles Gabriel. I do not remember ever having heard the song sung. It was entitled, I've a Heritage Royal. The world keep its treasures of silver and gold. They can never compare with the title that I hold. For with the blood of the Savior, its seal and its sign, there's a mansion in glory that surely is mine. I've a heritage royal, a wonderful crown. To secure it for me, Jesus laid his life down. Today I'm a child of the king. By my birthright I claim a bright home in his heaven. All praise to his wonderful name. And so the vain trifles of earth that will change and decay cannot tempt or allure me. They last but a day. For in the land of forever, just over the tide, with the Christ in his duty, sometime I'll forever abide. Remember, beloved, there is only one who can give life eternal. There is only one. who is the way, the truth, and the life. Only one could say, I am the way. There is no other way. I am the truth. Nothing else is truth. I am the life. In him and in him alone is eternal life. Jesus Christ, the very son of the living God. Now, keep that in mind as we begin our heart -to -heart talk today. I somehow feel this is one of the most important. heart -to -heart talks that you and I have ever had. May the Holy Spirit open your mind to the deep truths of the Word. For remember, flesh and blood have not revealed this unto thee, but my Father, which is in heaven. And all spiritual understanding and inspiration must come through the Holy Spirit. Or I consider something with me, and that is the fact that the Old and the New Testaments are not separate books. Now, I'm talking about the Bible. Many folk say, well, I enjoy the New Testament. Oh, it's so wonderful. But... I really do not consider the Old Testament too important. And they just sort of leave the Old Testament. On the other hand, there are those who accept the Old Testament who do not accept the New. And there you are. But the truth is that the Old Testament and the New Testament are not separate books because you cannot understand the book of Leviticus in the Old Testament without understanding Hebrews in the New Testament or Daniel without Revelation. The book of Daniel in the Old Testament will be a closed book to you. The key to the book of Daniel in the Old Testament is in understanding the last book of the New Testament, the book of the Revelation, or the Passover, or even the 53rd chapter of Isaiah, without understanding the Gospels. And it's just like that. You have to understand Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the New Testament to understand the Passover or Isaiah in the Old Testament. Had you never thought of it? Pause because there'll be many things in that which I'm going to say. In the next several minutes, that may be new to you. Just sit there with an open mind. But always remember, while I'm speaking, that the Bible has only one author. Just one. All the prophets spoke as truth was revealed to them by the Spirit. That's the reason that Scripture is so important. Prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but by holy men of God, spake as they were moved upon by the Holy Spirit. John was moved upon by the same Holy Spirit. Paul was moved upon by the same Holy Spirit. In reality, the Bible has but one author. Sure, I know. Many men were used of the Holy Spirit. But it was the same Holy Spirit who moved up on these men. One mind, the mind of God. One will, the will of God. One inspiration, God himself. The Holy Spirit being the great author. Now, I want you to see the importance of the Holy Spirit. He has always been in existence. Always. But his primary work in the lives of men and women has been to Lift up Jesus Christ, the very Son of the living God, the divine Son of God. I want you to see something that, when the Holy Spirit made it real to me, was one of the greatest revelations that I had ever had spiritually. And that is the fact. that the entire Bible is a revelation of Jesus. I know you seldom think of Jesus in connection with the Old Testament. But, beloved, from the very first book in the Old Testament through the entire Old Testament, through all of the Gospels and the New, clear on through to the last book of the New Testament, which is definitely the final revelation of Jesus Christ in prophecy, we have the revelation of the divine Son of God. And it's just like that. All right? You better just pause whatever you're doing because we're going to think very deeply. Some of the things that I'm going to bring you in the next several minutes will be deep spiritual truths. The Holy Spirit, as the member of the triune Godhead, never was absent, never was away from the world at no time. And yet, he came to dwell in a very unique way on the day of Pentecost. Now, Luke tells us that when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they, that is the 120 believers who assembled in the upper room, And how well you know that account as it's given in the second chapter of Acts. There they were. A hundred and twenty believers. Ordinary folk, just like any one of us. But they loved God with all of their heart. And before Jesus went away, he told that he would send the Holy Spirit. in person to them. And they believed everything that Jesus said. And they were there waiting. And sure enough, Luke tells us that when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. These 120. And as these believers were gathered together in one place, all with one accord, one thought, one purpose, there came a manifestation of the Spirit's presence among them. And this was not just a figment of their imagination. This literally is a matter today of history. As these believers were gathered together, there came a manifestation of the Spirit's presence. It was audible to the ear as well as visible to the eye. The Scripture says, and the believers gave the account, and this is what it says, there came a sound from heaven. They heard it. It was audible to the ear. And what was the sound like? In describing it, the best way they could describe it was that it was as of a rushing mighty wind. Sometime or another. Each one of us can recall the sound of a mighty rushing wind. Now, the sound that they heard, this audible sound that they heard with their ear, was described like this. It was as near as they could come to describing what they heard. now there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as a fire and it sat upon each of them there was no better way to describe it they heard and this is what they saw there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as a fire, and it sat upon each of them. Now, the advent of Christ was real because he could be seen, felt, heard. Luke is bearing testimony to the reality of the advent of the Holy Spirit. This is not a deception in the minds of men. It was actual. historical event that could be attested by not two or three, but by a large number of witnesses. Now, it's very significant that this thing took place when the day of Pentecost was fully come. It's important that we notice this, for in order to understand this, we have to go back to the old testament that's exactly what i'm telling you you cannot accept the new testament without accepting the old neither can you accept the old without accepting the new the two are one you cannot understand these words when the day of pentecost was fully come without going back to the old testament the passover was instituted the night that God delivered the children of Israel out of Egypt. We all know that. God had given nine plagues which came upon the Egyptians and finally God announced a tenth plague the result of which would cause Pharaoh to release the people from out of their bondage. And the Israelites were commanded to place the blood of a sacrifice upon the side posts and the top of the door. And God promised that when he saw the blood, he would pass over them. Or, as it might be literally translated, he would hover over them. There is never a communion service, but what... Again, I bring to your mind that first Passover. When they were told to kill the little lamb. And the blood of that little lamb was to be sprinkled on the doorpost of the house. And he would pass over them. Literally, he would. hover over there. And the Spirit of God hovered over every home upon whose doorposts the blood had been applied to prevent the death angel from entering. The Passover was then observed every year as memorial to God's deliverance and God's protection. It's there. That's the reason I say you can't understand Leviticus without understanding Hebrews in the New Testament. Paul then tells us in the New Testament, Christ is our Passover and is sacrificed for us. And as we put Leviticus alongside of these words, we can see then what took place in the Old Testament anticipated an event that was to take place in the New Testament. Jesus Christ, as the Lamb of God, shed his blood that we might come under the covering of his blood, that he might hover over us to protect us and keep us as his own blood -bought loved ones. Isn't that thrilling? This is what I'm telling you. The entire Bible, literally, is a book about Jesus. That's right. The entire Bible is a revelation of Jesus. Go no further. The Feast of the Unleavened Bread followed the Passover. The ones who observed the Passover and feasted upon the Passover lamb were to observe a seven -day period. in which there was no leaven in their homes. Those who had partaken of the Passover lamb were to be separated from the leaven, the sign of uncleanness. In the New Testament, we are exhorted to purge out therefore the old leaven. Why? A new kind of life. has come to those who have been washed through the blood of Jesus Christ, God's Son. Go to the third feast described in the Old Testament. It's the feast of the first fruits. When the children of Israel came into the land and reaped the bounty which God gave them, they were to gather together some of the sheaves of that harvest and wave the sheaves before the Lord. In the New Testament, you find that Christ is the first fruits. He's the first fruits of many who will follow him in the harvest because of his resurrection. Now, you'll notice that God has instituted these beasts according to a prearranged plan. Christ, who is our Passover, redeems by blood and brings those of us who are saved into a new kind of life. Christ, who is the wave sheaf, is the first fruits of the harvest that will be brought. to God by his resurrection. And so you have Christ crucified and Christ resurrected, both represented in these feasts. Oh, it's marvelous. That's glorious. Remember again. The entire Bible is a revelation of Jesus. The only one who can say, I am the way. I am the truth. I am life. Eternal life. God bless you.
