So I just noticed a kind of 0:03:15.560 --> 0:03:20.520 a similarity the word confident, But then I noticed a 0:03:20.560 --> 0:03:25.799 little distinction. And of course, as you get into the 0:06:40.880 --> 0:06:44.320 Book of Philippians, the letter that I was reading from 0:06:44.320 --> 0:06:48.440 where Paul is writing this church of Christians who have 0:06:48.520 --> 0:06:53.840 apparently lost their confidence I mentioned last week, go back 0:06:53.839 --> 0:06:57.000 and watch it that if he's saying that he is 0:06:57.080 --> 0:07:00.400 confident in what God is doing it suggests that maybe 0:07:00.440 --> 0:07:03.360 they're not anymore. And there's a bunch of reasons for them. 0:07:03.440 --> 0:07:07.400 There's fighting in the church. Yodia and Synekey aren't getting along, 0:07:07.680 --> 0:07:11.040 so he's like begging them to stop fighting. And not 0:07:11.120 --> 0:07:14.040 only that, I mean there's all kinds of there's all 0:07:14.120 --> 0:07:17.800 kinds of reasons for the Philippian Church not to be confident, 0:07:18.760 --> 0:07:20.680 the least of which is not that their leader is 0:07:20.720 --> 0:07:25.080 in prison. Right, But he's giving them just like this 0:07:25.280 --> 0:07:28.880 impartation of faith that is so powerful. He's like, let 0:07:28.880 --> 0:07:30.160 me read you a little bit more of the pastors 0:07:30.200 --> 0:07:32.240 so you can get a sense. A paphroditis. The Philippians that the church that was 0:10:03.280 --> 0:10:08.920 started while Paul was in jail, that church has supported him. 0:10:09.160 --> 0:10:12.360 When he left Macedonia went to Thessalonica, they were the 0:10:12.360 --> 0:10:17.200 only church that sponsored him. And he's writing back to them, 0:10:17.240 --> 0:10:20.200 being confident of this, that he will begin a good 0:10:20.200 --> 0:10:23.520 work and you'll be faithful to complete it to the 0:10:23.600 --> 0:10:28.040 day of Christ. They sent him a gift, they loaned 0:10:28.080 --> 0:10:31.720 him a person. He borrowed a paphroditis for the season 0:10:31.720 --> 0:10:34.560 that he needed him and sent him back and he said, 0:10:34.880 --> 0:10:40.000 I'm still confident. Make this confession by faith if you can. 0:10:40.080 --> 0:10:44.320 I'm still confident. And the principle I want us to 0:10:44.320 --> 0:10:50.079 come around today is that where your confidence comes from 0:10:50.320 --> 0:11:02.319 determines when it runs out. So while body confidence is awesome, newsflash, 0:11:02.640 --> 0:11:14.240 your body goes through different versions states. If my confidence 0:11:15.080 --> 0:11:23.679 is in my body, then I better never get forty. 0:11:23.880 --> 0:11:29.400 If my confidence is in my career, then my employer 0:11:29.559 --> 0:11:36.920 has the ability to strip me of my faith. And 0:11:36.960 --> 0:11:38.920 I know this sounds weird to say, but if your 0:11:38.960 --> 0:11:46.880 confidence is in your pastor what if I what if 0:11:46.920 --> 0:11:50.720 I mess up? God is still with you. I don't 0:11:50.760 --> 0:11:56.520 want to mess up. But the fact is, listen, if 0:11:56.559 --> 0:11:58.960 I drop that in this pulpit right now, I know 0:11:59.040 --> 0:12:01.360 that's kind of Morbidefully, they call an ambulance and try 0:12:01.400 --> 0:12:03.920 to fix me. But by next Sunday God would send 0:12:03.920 --> 0:12:05.760 you somebody else to preach his word. He loves you 0:12:05.840 --> 0:12:12.760 that much. It's weird to imagine that. I mean, and 0:12:13.040 --> 0:12:16.720 that's true of everything in your life. So if you're confidence. 0:12:17.240 --> 0:12:19.600 As the letter progresses, Paul gets heavier. With the Philippian Church, He's like, 0:12:53.600 --> 0:12:57.600 y'all make me happy, man, We have this partnership. Y'all 0:12:57.640 --> 0:13:03.480 have been with me for a minute. Yeah, he knew 0:13:03.520 --> 0:13:09.800 the power of partnership. Yeah. And when I preached last week, 0:13:09.840 --> 0:13:13.400 I said that we all have a dark part, a 0:13:13.480 --> 0:13:16.880 dark part of our personality, a dark part of our 0:13:16.920 --> 0:13:20.760 behavioral patterns. Well, where did that come from? We all 0:13:20.800 --> 0:13:26.199 have a dark part. But if you get through the 0:13:26.320 --> 0:13:32.000 dark part and get to the good part. So Paul 0:13:32.080 --> 0:13:37.040 refuses to leave the Philippians in the dark. He wants 0:13:37.120 --> 0:13:39.480 to let them know that God is still working in 0:13:39.480 --> 0:13:42.040 his life and God is still working in their life, 0:13:42.160 --> 0:13:44.760 and God hasn't stopped being God, and God hasn't stopped 0:13:44.800 --> 0:13:47.839 being good, and God hasn't forgotten your name or your address. 0:13:48.040 --> 0:13:50.360 And God sees everything that's going down in your life 0:13:50.400 --> 0:13:52.520 and everything that's going up in your life, like your 0:13:52.520 --> 0:13:55.160 blood pressure is going up, your bank account's going God 0:13:55.240 --> 0:13:58.360 sees all of that. And my confidence is not tied 0:13:58.400 --> 0:13:59.839 to either one of those that are going up or 0:14:03.920 --> 0:14:09.679 because we all hit seasons where it gets dark. Some of us can't get 0:14:42.800 --> 0:14:51.320 through the dark part because we don't have the right partners. 0:14:53.120 --> 0:14:56.720 You will never get through the dark part if you 0:14:56.760 --> 0:15:03.440 have partners that drag you down more. Ignorance, 0:15:36.280 --> 0:15:46.240 just ignorance, the blessing of dumb. When they were showing 0:15:46.240 --> 0:15:49.000 a video for fifteen years of ministry the other day, 0:15:49.080 --> 0:15:52.120 they had early videos of me preaching, and somebody said, 0:15:52.320 --> 0:15:55.200 you were so bold back then. I'm like, I was 0:15:55.320 --> 0:15:59.920 so dumb back then. And you know what ignorance look 0:16:00.240 --> 0:16:08.680 like confidence from a distance. A lot of the times 0:16:08.680 --> 0:16:10.680 that God can do the most through somebody is when 0:16:10.720 --> 0:16:15.960 they know the least. But let me mess around and 0:16:16.000 --> 0:16:18.440 live for a little while, and I build a file 0:16:19.440 --> 0:16:22.760 of everything that can go wrong. Things I didn't know 0:16:22.840 --> 0:16:25.280 I was supposed to be scared of when I was seventeen. 0:16:26.040 --> 0:16:28.080 Things I didn't know I was supposed to be scared 0:16:28.120 --> 0:16:33.800 of the first two years of church. So the benefits 0:16:33.920 --> 0:16:36.960 of ignorance is that it gives you this kind of confidence. 0:16:40.080 --> 0:16:43.800 Paul is not writing about that kind of confidence. So 0:16:45.160 --> 0:16:48.440 he knows how much it costs to serve Christ. He 0:16:48.600 --> 0:16:51.280 knows how uncertain it is. He knows how hard it 0:16:51.320 --> 0:16:54.200 can be sometimes when you feel completely abandoned by the 0:16:54.240 --> 0:17:00.680 people you help. No other churches, no other partners, nobody's 0:17:00.720 --> 0:17:04.240 gonna stand with me. He knows all of that, but 0:17:04.400 --> 0:17:11.639 he's confident, like David in song twenty seven, I will 0:17:11.680 --> 0:17:21.720 remain confident. That's not a feeling, that's a decision. Do 0:17:21.760 --> 0:17:25.600 you know the difference the feeling of confidence in the decision. 0:17:27.640 --> 0:17:33.720 The feeling can be stripped so quick, but the decision 0:17:33.760 --> 0:17:40.160 can be made any moment excellent. Paul calls this the righteousness that comes by faith. 0:17:53.240 --> 0:17:56.080 It's not the confidence in the flesh. It's not anything 0:17:56.080 --> 0:17:58.119 that you can buy. If you go back over 0:18:18.440 --> 0:18:21.560 to Psalm twenty seven, and I want to marry these 0:18:21.600 --> 0:18:27.360 two scriptures because they're interesting. They're interesting together. You'll notice 0:18:26.359 --> 0:18:30.919 that David must have been fighting something in Psalm twenty 0:18:30.960 --> 0:18:35.760 seven that threatened his sense of stability. I don't want 0:18:35.760 --> 0:18:37.439 to leave this in the text so long that you 0:18:37.480 --> 0:18:41.000 think this is a history lesson. There are so many 0:18:41.040 --> 0:18:46.639 people I'm talking to these days that life has taken 0:18:46.680 --> 0:18:50.240 on some new dimensions for them, and they no longer 0:18:50.320 --> 0:18:56.760 feel competent for the challenges of this season. And they 0:18:56.800 --> 0:18:59.399 have experienced some things. I'm not talking about you, I'm 0:18:59.400 --> 0:19:04.320 te wut somebody No. That made them bitter, Wow, that 0:19:04.400 --> 0:19:08.480 made them apprehensive, that made them timid about believing God. 0:19:09.200 --> 0:19:12.399 They prayed for somebody, they died, They love somebody, that 0:19:12.440 --> 0:19:16.200 person took advantage of their love.
