God rewards the people that seek 0:02:06.160 --> 0:02:08.600 after Him and I believe that's you. Or you wouldn't 0:02:08.600 --> 0:02:10.960 be tuning in today. You guys wouldn't be here today. 0:02:11.400 --> 0:02:13.160 If you're ever in our area, come out and see 0:02:13.240 --> 0:02:15.200 us I promise you we'll make you feel right at home, 0:02:15.240 --> 0:02:16.600 but we'd love to have you be a part of 0:02:16.680 --> 0:02:19.240 one of our services. I like to get started each 0:02:19.280 --> 0:02:21.360 week with something kind of funny. And I heard about 0:02:21.400 --> 0:02:25.120 this minister. He noticed a dead mule on the church grounds, 0:02:25.520 --> 0:02:27.359 and so he called the health department and they said 0:02:27.360 --> 0:02:30.920 they couldn't pick it up without authorization from the mayor. Well, 0:02:31.000 --> 0:02:33.560 this mayor was known to be rude and hard to 0:02:33.600 --> 0:02:36.880 get along with, and when the minister called, he didn't disappoint. 0:02:37.200 --> 0:02:39.799 He began to rent and rave, and finally he said, 0:02:39.840 --> 0:02:42.360 why are you even bothering me? Isn't it your job 0:02:42.520 --> 0:02:45.280 to bury the dead? The minister asked God to give 0:02:45.360 --> 0:02:47.639 him the right response. He said, yes, Mayor, it is 0:02:47.760 --> 0:02:50.400 my job to bury the dead, but I always like 0:02:50.520 --> 0:02:55.399 to notify the next of ken. First, all right, hold 0:02:55.480 --> 0:02:58.239 up your bibles. Say it like you mean it. This 0:02:58.520 --> 0:03:00.920 is my Bible. I am what it says. 0:03:00.960 --> 0:03:01.200 I am. 0:03:01.960 --> 0:03:04.440 I have what it says I have. I can do 0:03:04.639 --> 0:03:07.200 what it says I can do. Today I will be 0:03:07.320 --> 0:03:11.440 taught the word of God. I boldly confess. My mind 0:03:11.560 --> 0:03:15.200 is alert, my heart is receptive. I will never be 0:03:15.320 --> 0:03:20.120 the same in Jesus' name, God bless you. We've been 0:03:20.160 --> 0:03:24.320 talking about developing a habit of happiness and how important 0:03:24.360 --> 0:03:27.080 it is that we train our mind to see the good. 0:03:27.919 --> 0:03:31.840 This doesn't happen automatically. We have to discipline ourselves to 0:03:31.960 --> 0:03:35.840 focus on the positive. Many people don't realize the reason 0:03:35.880 --> 0:03:38.960 they're not happy, the reason they're not enjoying their life, 0:03:39.400 --> 0:03:43.200 is simply because they've trained their mind to worry. They've 0:03:43.280 --> 0:03:46.200 trained their mind to complain, they've trained their mind to 0:03:46.240 --> 0:03:49.240 see the negative. But just as we can form these 0:03:49.360 --> 0:03:53.520 negative mindsets, we can form positive mindsets. And one of 0:03:53.600 --> 0:03:57.760 the main keys to developing this habit of happiness is 0:03:57.840 --> 0:04:01.080 we have to learn how to stay great. We have 0:04:01.240 --> 0:04:06.040 to learn to focus on what's right rather than what's wrong. Now, understand, 0:04:06.520 --> 0:04:10.720 the seeds of discouragement cannot take root in a grateful heart. 0:04:11.480 --> 0:04:14.680 If you're not happy today, if you're down, or when 0:04:14.720 --> 0:04:17.880 you're tempted to get discouraged, the quickest way out of 0:04:17.960 --> 0:04:20.800 that is to stop focusing on what you don't have 0:04:21.360 --> 0:04:24.080 and start thanking God for what you do have. Find 0:04:24.320 --> 0:04:28.320 some reason to be grateful. Being grateful will lift you 0:04:28.480 --> 0:04:32.719 out of depression and discouragement. Being grateful can help turn 0:04:32.839 --> 0:04:37.080 a relationship around. It can save a marriage. It's amazing 0:04:37.160 --> 0:04:41.160 what happens when we stop focusing on somebody's faults and 0:04:41.279 --> 0:04:44.400 we stop complaining about what they're doing wrong, and instead 0:04:44.480 --> 0:04:48.520 we start seeing the good. We start showing appreciation, being 0:04:48.600 --> 0:04:52.680 grateful at the office, expressing gratitude to your employer, to 0:04:52.760 --> 0:04:56.320 your supervisor. That can help save your job during a 0:04:56.400 --> 0:04:58.840 time of layoffs. That can help you get a promotion. 0:05:00.160 --> 0:05:03.880 Like to be around grateful people. They're drawn to people 0:05:04.200 --> 0:05:07.599 that are appreciative and thankful. And when we get up 0:05:07.640 --> 0:05:10.960 in the morning, before we read the newspaper, before we 0:05:11.040 --> 0:05:13.520 turn on the TV, before we think about our problems, 0:05:13.800 --> 0:05:16.560 the first thing we should do is thank God that 0:05:16.640 --> 0:05:19.640 we're alive, thank God that we're healthy, thank God for 0:05:19.760 --> 0:05:22.960 our job, thank God for our friends and our family. 0:05:24.200 --> 0:05:27.520 We need to start the day off in a grateful attitude. 0:05:28.040 --> 0:05:30.880 I've found you cannot go through the day negative and 0:05:31.000 --> 0:05:34.320 depressed as long as you have a spirit of thanksgiving 0:05:34.400 --> 0:05:37.160 in your heart. Well, Joel, I do that, but I 0:05:37.240 --> 0:05:39.640 got this old rattle trap of a car, barely has 0:05:39.680 --> 0:05:43.040 air condition, it's hot outside. No, be grateful for what 0:05:43.200 --> 0:05:45.880 you do have. Some people would love to have your car. Well, 0:05:45.920 --> 0:05:48.040 if I had more money, I'm sure i'd be happy. Joel. 0:05:48.279 --> 0:05:50.560 Now you get to change your perspective. You may not 0:05:50.720 --> 0:05:52.640 have all the money you would like, but you do 0:05:52.800 --> 0:05:54.800 have your health. Let me tell you that's worth a 0:05:54.839 --> 0:05:57.640 whole lot. I was reading about this gentleman, one of 0:05:57.680 --> 0:06:01.280 the wealthiest men in the United States, over a billion dollars, 0:06:01.600 --> 0:06:03.840 had more money than any of us could spend. But 0:06:03.960 --> 0:06:06.680 the problem was he didn't have his health, and he 0:06:06.800 --> 0:06:10.480 spent years going from hospital to hospital trying all this 0:06:10.640 --> 0:06:13.840 different kind of treatment. Do you know how much he 0:06:13.920 --> 0:06:16.800 would have given to be well and healthy. Like most 0:06:16.839 --> 0:06:19.920 of us today, he would have given it all. You 0:06:20.000 --> 0:06:22.160 may not have everything you would like, but keep it 0:06:22.279 --> 0:06:25.760 in perspective. If you have your health, you're extremely wealthy. 0:06:26.080 --> 0:06:28.280 If you can walk, you can talk, you can think, 0:06:28.360 --> 0:06:31.839 you can see, you have something that a billion dollars 0:06:31.880 --> 0:06:34.920 couldn't even buy. Don't take for granted the fact that 0:06:35.040 --> 0:06:36.839 you were able to get out of bed this morning 0:06:36.920 --> 0:06:40.240 without any assistance. When you opened your eyes, you were 0:06:40.279 --> 0:06:42.960 able to see. When you told your legs to walk, 0:06:43.040 --> 0:06:45.480 they obeyed. When you went to the kitchen, you had 0:06:45.600 --> 0:06:48.400 food to eat. Some of you had too much of it. 0:06:50.680 --> 0:06:54.960 Don't take your health for granted. Be grateful that you 0:06:55.080 --> 0:06:58.720 can breathe without any problem. I walked by somebody the 0:06:58.760 --> 0:07:01.560 other day that had real bad asthma. They were hooked 0:07:01.640 --> 0:07:04.360 up to oxygen and they were struggling to breathe. And 0:07:04.640 --> 0:07:06.560 after we prayed for them, I went back to my 0:07:06.680 --> 0:07:08.600 seat and I just said, Father, thank you that I 0:07:08.680 --> 0:07:11.440 can breathe. Think you that my lungs are clear, thinking 0:07:11.480 --> 0:07:14.440 that I'm strong and healthy. You see somebody out here 0:07:14.480 --> 0:07:17.520 living on the street, somebody homeless, pray for them, and 0:07:17.600 --> 0:07:19.440 then learn to say, Father, thank you that I have 0:07:19.520 --> 0:07:22.800 a home. You see somebody in a wheelchair, bless them, 0:07:23.000 --> 0:07:25.080 Then say Father, thank you that I'm able to walk. 0:07:25.840 --> 0:07:27.920 You may be in a wheelchair. You may not be 0:07:28.000 --> 0:07:29.640 able to walk, but you can thank God that you 0:07:29.760 --> 0:07:31.920 can see. You may not have legs, but you can. 0:07:31.960 --> 0:07:35.280 Thank God you have arms. Find some reason to be grateful. 0:07:36.160 --> 0:07:39.240 If you have a hard time tonight getting to sleep, 0:07:39.760 --> 0:07:43.200 Instead of just lying there frustrated in your bed, think 0:07:43.240 --> 0:07:46.000 about the people that don't even have a bed. If 0:07:46.080 --> 0:07:49.160 you get stuck in traffic tomorrow, instead of getting upset, 0:07:49.520 --> 0:07:52.040 think about the people that don't have a car, or 0:07:52.120 --> 0:07:54.360 maybe you have a tough day at the office next week. 0:07:54.880 --> 0:07:56.840 Instead of letting it ruin the rest of your week, 0:07:57.240 --> 0:08:00.760 think about the people that don't even have a job. Well, Joel, 0:08:00.800 --> 0:08:02.800 I had to park three blocks away just to come 0:08:02.840 --> 0:08:05.640 to church today. I prayed for favor. It never works 0:08:05.680 --> 0:08:08.880 for me. Now, instead of getting sour, you know what 0:08:08.960 --> 0:08:11.000 you should do With every step you take. You should 0:08:11.000 --> 0:08:13.400 say Father, thank you that I'm able to walk, thank 0:08:13.480 --> 0:08:17.920 you that I'm strong, thank you that I'm healthy. Instead 0:08:17.960 --> 0:08:20.760 of complaining that your hair is turning gray, you should 0:08:20.760 --> 0:08:25.880 be grateful that it's not turning loose. Some of it's 0:08:25.920 --> 0:08:34.160 too late, or maybe somebody's rude to you. They're spiteful, jealous, angry. Well, 0:08:34.280 --> 0:08:36.880 just remember it could be worse. You could be then. 0:08:38.080 --> 0:08:40.719 And sometimes the only way to be grateful is to 0:08:40.840 --> 0:08:44.600 just say thank God. I'm not like you. Just don't 0:08:44.640 --> 0:08:48.199 do it to their face. But we can all find 0:08:48.400 --> 0:08:52.000 some reason to give thanks, and being grateful is the 0:08:52.120 --> 0:08:55.880 key to living a happy life. Our circumstances are up 0:08:56.200 --> 0:08:59.960 and down. People don't always do what's right, Disappointments come. 0:09:00.280 --> 0:09:02.280 This is just a part of life. But if we 0:09:02.360 --> 0:09:05.200 can train our minds to see the good and always 0:09:05.280 --> 0:09:08.120 find some reason to be grateful. Then we're gonna live 0:09:08.200 --> 0:09:11.160 life happy. We're gonna enjoy our lives. A couple of 0:09:11.240 --> 0:09:13.679 weeks ago, we had one of our teenagers here at 0:09:13.679 --> 0:09:17.520 the church killed in an automobile accident. It's very sad, 0:09:17.679 --> 0:09:20.960 but I love that his parents' attitude. They stood right 0:09:21.040 --> 0:09:23.640 here at the altar and they said, Joel, we just 0:09:23.720 --> 0:09:26.200 want to thank God that we had him as long 0:09:26.320 --> 0:09:29.679 as we did. And I thought, man, that's a mature attitude, 0:09:29.800 --> 0:09:32.800 because a lot of people in that situation they get negative, 0:09:33.160 --> 0:09:35.680 they get bitter, they blame God, they drop out of church. 0:09:36.200 --> 0:09:40.000 But not these parents. They found something to be grateful for. 0:09:40.920 --> 0:09:46.560 The Scripture tells us in First Thessalonians it says in everything, 0:09:47.120 --> 0:09:51.199 give thanks. Notice it doesn't say to give thanks for everything. 0:09:51.520 --> 0:09:55.600 It says in everything. In other words, God, in spite 0:09:55.760 --> 0:09:58.800 of what's happened, I'm gonna choose to be grateful. I'm 0:09:58.840 --> 0:10:01.600 not gonna focus on what's I'm going to find something 0:10:01.800 --> 0:10:05.080 positive in my life. I may be sick, but Father, 0:10:05.120 --> 0:10:06.839 I just want to thank you today for giving me 0:10:06.920 --> 0:10:09.880 a great family. I may be struggling in my marriage, 0:10:10.000 --> 0:10:11.760 for God, thank you for giving me a good job. 0:10:12.480 --> 0:10:14.880 I may not have gotten the position I wanted for God, 0:10:14.920 --> 0:10:16.360 I want to thank you that I was able to 0:10:16.400 --> 0:10:19.160 see another sunrise, that I could hear the birds singing 0:10:19.240 --> 0:10:22.160 this morning, that I could smell the flowers. See, we 0:10:22.280 --> 0:10:26.120 all have difficult situations, but we have to discipline ourselves 0:10:26.240 --> 0:10:29.040 to not stay focused on the negative. That's where our 0:10:29.160 --> 0:10:32.079 mind naturally wants to go. I was talking to a 0:10:32.160 --> 0:10:35.160 young lady the other day. She was very down and discouraged. 0:10:35.400 --> 0:10:39.680 She'd gone through a troubling relationship. She said, Jeel, nothing's 0:10:39.720 --> 0:10:42.199 going right in my life. And she explained how the 0:10:42.280 --> 0:10:45.360 last two years she's just been so depressed. And I 0:10:45.520 --> 0:10:47.679 told her what I'm telling you today. You got to 0:10:47.800 --> 0:10:50.720 change your focus. I said, look at you. You're beautiful, 0:10:51.120 --> 0:10:54.079 you've got a great personality, you've got family that loves you, 0:10:54.160 --> 0:10:57.920 you're healthy, and yet you're allowing this one circumstance, this 0:10:58.040 --> 0:11:01.320 one person, to steal your joy week after week, month 0:11:01.440 --> 0:11:05.079 after month. The fact is there are some things in 0:11:05.240 --> 0:11:08.439 life that we cannot change. We can't change people, we 0:11:08.520 --> 0:11:12.040 can't make them do what's right. And if you're constantly trying, 0:11:12.280 --> 0:11:14.920 that's only going to frustrate you. You've got to turn 0:11:15.000 --> 0:11:18.320 the situation over to God. Do your part and then 0:11:18.440 --> 0:11:21.240 trust God to do his part. But don't allow that 0:11:21.360 --> 0:11:24.160 to keep stealing your joy. And I know in my 0:11:24.240 --> 0:11:26.439 own life, when I'm tempted to get down, tended to 0:11:26.480 --> 0:11:30.040 get discouraged, I've learned Number one, I've got to get 0:11:30.080 --> 0:11:32.559 my mind off of my own problems. I got to 0:11:32.600 --> 0:11:35.160 quit focusing on what's wrong in my life and what 0:11:35.320 --> 0:11:38.560 I don't have. And number two, I've got to find 0:11:38.640 --> 0:11:40.920 some reason to be grateful. I've got to look at 0:11:40.920 --> 0:11:43.840 what's right rather than what's wrong. A lot of times 0:11:43.880 --> 0:11:46.480 I'll go find my children and I'll think, look at them. 0:11:46.600 --> 0:11:51.240 They're strong, They're healthy, they're enthusiastic, they're beautiful. That helps 0:11:51.280 --> 0:11:54.720 to keep it all in perspective. We have to realize 0:11:55.000 --> 0:11:58.640 that every day is a gift from God. Once this 0:11:58.880 --> 0:12:00.719 day is gone, we can if we get it back. 0:12:01.400 --> 0:12:06.120 How are you going to choose to live it happy, grateful, enthusiastic, 0:12:06.960 --> 0:12:10.439 or are you going to go through the day negative discourage, 0:12:10.679 --> 0:12:13.280 focused on your problems, what you don't have, and who 0:12:13.360 --> 0:12:16.520 hurts you. Now, get away from that junk and find 0:12:16.640 --> 0:12:20.400 some reason to be grateful. And too often we're not 0:12:20.640 --> 0:12:24.679 grateful for something until it's almost taken away, and then 0:12:24.720 --> 0:12:26.679 when we get it back, we have a new appreciation 0:12:26.840 --> 0:12:29.480 for it. It changes our perspective. Now, I was reading 0:12:29.520 --> 0:12:32.520 about this young man. He was a star running back 0:12:32.679 --> 0:12:36.280 on his high school football team. He'd broken all these records, 0:12:36.800 --> 0:12:40.200 been recruited by the major colleges. His future looked very bright. 0:12:40.800 --> 0:12:43.920 But one day he started complaining about some pain in 0:12:44.040 --> 0:12:46.599 his right knee. After he went to the doctor and 0:12:46.679 --> 0:12:49.360 had several weeks of test, they gave him some very 0:12:49.480 --> 0:12:54.199 discouraging news. He had something called osteo sarcoma, and the 0:12:54.280 --> 0:12:56.960 surgeon said, this is really one of the worst kinds 0:12:57.000 --> 0:13:00.400 of cancer. It's eating into your bones and if we 0:13:00.440 --> 0:13:03.320 don't remove your leg, it's going to spread throughout your 0:13:03.360 --> 0:13:05.719 whole body and it'll kill you. And of course this 0:13:05.840 --> 0:13:09.160 young man was devastated. His dream was to play in 0:13:09.240 --> 0:13:12.439 the NFL, and how that was shattered and he just 0:13:12.480 --> 0:13:15.360 sunk into that dark hold of depression like so many 0:13:15.440 --> 0:13:18.720 people do. But long story short, they did the operation. 0:13:19.400 --> 0:13:22.960 When the surgeons got in there, they realized it wasn't 0:13:23.120 --> 0:13:26.199 what they thought. It was just an unusual bone cyst 0:13:26.720 --> 0:13:29.280 and they were able to remove it and spare his leg. 0:13:30.000 --> 0:13:32.480 And when he woke up from that operation and he 0:13:32.600 --> 0:13:34.840 got the good news that his leg was still there 0:13:34.960 --> 0:13:36.640 and he was going to be able to play ball 0:13:36.800 --> 0:13:40.000 and still be strong and healthy, he wept and wept 0:13:40.040 --> 0:13:42.360 and wept, just like a little baby. You know what 0:13:42.440 --> 0:13:45.040 he does every morning now when he gets up, he's 0:13:45.080 --> 0:13:47.920 just a teenager. First thing he does, Thank you Lord 0:13:48.000 --> 0:13:50.480 from my legs. Thank you Lord that I can run, 0:13:50.559 --> 0:13:52.920 Thank you Lord that I'm healthy, Thank you Lord that 0:13:53.000 --> 0:13:58.080 I'm strong. He has a whole new perspective. And I'm 0:13:58.120 --> 0:14:01.240 asking us today to not let something have to be 0:14:01.400 --> 0:14:05.319 taken away or almost taken away before we really appreciate 0:14:05.440 --> 0:14:08.920 what we have. Don't take your health for granted, don't 0:14:08.960 --> 0:14:12.160 take your job for granted. And let's make sure that 0:14:12.320 --> 0:14:16.079 we don't take the people in our lives for granted. Husbands, 0:14:16.360 --> 0:14:20.080 don't take your wife for granted. Recognize that lady is 0:14:20.120 --> 0:14:23.000 a gift that God has given you. Quit being critical, 0:14:23.680 --> 0:14:26.720 quit finding fault and complaining about what she's doing wrong, 0:14:27.320 --> 0:14:29.800 and start being grateful that you have somebody in your 0:14:29.880 --> 0:14:33.400 life to love. Start focusing on what she's doing right 0:14:34.000 --> 0:14:37.000 rather than what she's doing wrong. Let's learn to overlook 0:14:37.080 --> 0:14:41.200 some things. Let's realize that every person has weaknesses. I 0:14:41.280 --> 0:14:44.160 heard somebody put it like this. When you're tempted to 0:14:44.240 --> 0:14:47.680 be critical of your wife's faults, just remember it was 0:14:47.760 --> 0:14:50.880 those very faults that kept her from getting a better husband. 0:14:53.480 --> 0:14:56.600 But the fact is we all have room to improve. 0:14:57.160 --> 0:15:01.560 Let's focus on the good, says Verbs eighteen twenty two. 0:15:02.240 --> 0:15:06.480 He who finds a wife finds favor from the Lord. Men, 0:15:06.560 --> 0:15:09.080 you need to realize your wife is bringing you favor 0:15:09.160 --> 0:15:12.920 from the Lord. Victoria never lets me forget that. She'll 0:15:12.960 --> 0:15:14.880 go through the house and listen, Joel, when you got me, 0:15:15.040 --> 0:15:18.720 you got favor, and I think, yeah, I got a 0:15:18.800 --> 0:15:23.440 whole lot of other things. Women all good, but be 0:15:23.600 --> 0:15:27.800 grateful for their personality, be grateful for their gifts and talents, 0:15:28.000 --> 0:15:31.720 and let's give each other room to not be perfect husbands. 0:15:31.760 --> 0:15:34.040 Your wife may not be the greatest cook, but at 0:15:34.120 --> 0:15:36.320 least you can be grateful that she keeps a fresh 0:15:36.400 --> 0:15:40.440 supply of rolaids up in the cabinet. Eat the food 0:15:40.480 --> 0:15:45.000 and pray that it will digest. Listen, ladies, the scripture 0:15:45.040 --> 0:15:48.920 says in one Peter that you are to enjoy your husband. 0:15:49.560 --> 0:15:52.080 It does not say that you are to remodel that man. 0:15:53.000 --> 0:15:55.120 It doesn't say that you're to try to change him 0:15:55.160 --> 0:15:57.040 and try to make him fit into your little mold. 0:15:57.680 --> 0:15:59.680 Now let him be who God made him to be, 0:16:00.200 --> 0:16:04.280 and learn to enjoy him. He may have weaknesses, he 0:16:04.440 --> 0:16:07.000 may do things that you don't particularly care for, but 0:16:07.120 --> 0:16:10.720 don't focus on that. Focus on his good qualities. And 0:16:10.840 --> 0:16:15.120 you should never compare your husband to somebody else's husband. Well, 0:16:15.200 --> 0:16:18.720 my husband never brings me flowers like Susie's husband. They 0:16:18.840 --> 0:16:21.080 go out on a candlelight dinner every weekend. Don't know 0:16:21.160 --> 0:16:24.400 what's wrong with my husband. Now quit comparing your husband 0:16:24.480 --> 0:16:28.560 to Romeo over there, and just be grateful for the 0:16:28.680 --> 0:16:32.160 man that God has given you. Too many people today 0:16:32.320 --> 0:16:36.800 are just enduring their marriage. They let these little things 0:16:36.880 --> 0:16:40.320 build up, they get resentful, and before long they're hard 0:16:40.360 --> 0:16:43.880 to get along with. They're at odds, they're arguing, they're fighting. No, 0:16:44.080 --> 0:16:48.160 change your perspective. I challenge you to find something good, 0:16:48.360 --> 0:16:51.360 one great quality about your husband or wife, and then 0:16:51.440 --> 0:16:54.400 begin to magnify it. Your husband may not be the 0:16:54.480 --> 0:16:57.440 most romantic man, he may not be the best communicator, 0:16:57.720 --> 0:17:01.600 but maybe he is a hard worker. Maybe he provides 0:17:01.640 --> 0:17:03.680 a great living, you never have to think about paying 0:17:03.720 --> 0:17:06.399 the bills. Why don't you start telling him, hey, I 0:17:06.520 --> 0:17:09.639 appreciate you being such a great provider for our family. 0:17:10.280 --> 0:17:13.800 If you will magnify the good, not only will you 0:17:13.880 --> 0:17:16.800 be happier, but you'll see that man come up higher 0:17:16.960 --> 0:17:20.639 in other areas. Maybe you're here today and your husband 0:17:20.840 --> 0:17:23.720 doesn't come to church with you. You've tried and tried, 0:17:23.760 --> 0:17:27.520 but he's just not interested. Well, don't nag him, don't 0:17:27.560 --> 0:17:31.280 try to beg him into coming, don't just love the man. 0:17:31.960 --> 0:17:34.200 I see too many ladies they're trying to shove the 0:17:34.240 --> 0:17:37.720 scripture down their husband's throat. They're always preaching in the sermon, 0:17:37.840 --> 0:17:40.560 telling him what he's doing wrong. But really, I believe 0:17:40.600 --> 0:17:43.399 a better approach is to just be your husband's best friend. 0:17:44.040 --> 0:17:46.840 Just be fun to be around, just love him. That's 0:17:46.920 --> 0:17:48.800 going to draw him in quicker than any of that 0:17:48.960 --> 0:17:51.639 other And as I said, you can't change him. You 0:17:51.880 --> 0:17:53.960 just pray for him, You be a good example, and 0:17:54.080 --> 0:17:57.120 let God do the rest. But don't use the excuse. Well, 0:17:57.119 --> 0:17:59.000 I don't have to treat my husband good. Joey, he 0:17:59.080 --> 0:18:01.080 doesn't come to church, he's not as spiritual as me. 0:18:01.720 --> 0:18:04.800 You know, we all have a responsibility to treat our 0:18:04.840 --> 0:18:08.600 spouse with respect and honor. Don't take that person for granted. 0:18:09.880 --> 0:18:14.640 We need to realize life is very short. That other 0:18:14.760 --> 0:18:18.200 person may not always be here. Have you told your 0:18:18.280 --> 0:18:21.600 spouse you love them lately? Have you hugged that man? 0:18:21.760 --> 0:18:22.879 Have you kissed that woman? 0:18:23.240 --> 0:18:23.359 Oh? 0:18:23.480 --> 0:18:25.719 No, Joe, we're at odds. We're mad at each other. 0:18:25.800 --> 0:18:28.600 We're arguing. He did this, she did that. Let me 0:18:28.680 --> 0:18:31.000 ask you, if you found out you only had a 0:18:31.040 --> 0:18:33.840 couple weeks to live, how long would you stay upset? 0:18:34.560 --> 0:18:36.920 Better yet, if you found out that other person was 0:18:36.960 --> 0:18:39.320 only going to be here another month or two, how 0:18:39.359 --> 0:18:42.360 would you treat them? We need to learn to live 0:18:42.440 --> 0:18:45.560 each day as if it could be our last. And 0:18:45.680 --> 0:18:49.280 David said here in Psalm ninety, verse twelve, God teach 0:18:49.440 --> 0:18:52.960 us to number our days. He was saying, God, help 0:18:53.040 --> 0:18:56.280 me to remember that every day is a gift from 0:18:56.359 --> 0:18:59.119 you when I get up in the morning. Help me 0:18:59.200 --> 0:19:01.400 to realize that but I may not always be here. 0:19:02.000 --> 0:19:04.200 Help me to be kind to the people in my life. 0:19:04.800 --> 0:19:07.159 Help me to focus on the good. Help me to 0:19:07.280 --> 0:19:10.399 not take things for granted. I heard somebody put it 0:19:10.520 --> 0:19:15.280 like this, we forget how fragile life really is. We 0:19:15.400 --> 0:19:19.280 wait for Thanksgiving to give thanks, We wait for Christmas 0:19:19.400 --> 0:19:23.320 to give gifts. We wait for Valentine's Day to express 0:19:23.440 --> 0:19:25.920 love to the people that we hold dear. We say 0:19:26.000 --> 0:19:29.960 to ourselves, today is just an ordinary day, and we wait. 0:19:30.680 --> 0:19:34.959 And while we wait, the clock ticks, precious moments pass by. 0:19:35.720 --> 0:19:38.879 But in reality, there is no such thing as an 0:19:39.000 --> 0:19:44.560 ordinary day. Every day is a gift. It's unique and irreplaceable. 0:19:45.200 --> 0:19:49.600 It's ours can be used or misused, invested or wasted. 0:19:50.240 --> 0:19:53.639 God teach us to number our days. What are you 0:19:53.760 --> 0:19:56.679 focused on today? What's right or what's wrong? Is there 0:19:56.760 --> 0:19:59.399 peace in your home, peace in your life? Are you 0:19:59.560 --> 0:20:03.640 happy at rest? Enjoy and life. We need to realize 0:20:04.040 --> 0:20:07.480 this day is a special day. It's not an ordinary day. 0:20:08.119 --> 0:20:13.240 It's unique, it's irreplaceable. The Scripture tells us to make 0:20:13.400 --> 0:20:16.159 the most of every day. We need to learn to 0:20:16.240 --> 0:20:19.840 live like it could be our last. Growing up, we 0:20:19.960 --> 0:20:23.480 knew this older couple. They were very fine people, and 0:20:23.560 --> 0:20:27.399 the lady especially was very loving, caring, fun to be around. 0:20:27.840 --> 0:20:30.480 In fact, I never saw her where she did not 0:20:30.600 --> 0:20:34.000 have a smile on her face. She was always encouraging somebody. 0:20:34.400 --> 0:20:37.960 People loved her, especially the young people. But late last fall, 0:20:38.280 --> 0:20:41.080 she went home to be with the Lord. At her funeral, 0:20:41.160 --> 0:20:44.720 the husband said something interesting about fifteen years ago he 0:20:44.840 --> 0:20:48.520 had a heart attack. She came to the hospital. She said, honey, 0:20:49.080 --> 0:20:52.080 this just shows us how fragile life really is. You 0:20:52.160 --> 0:20:54.159 could have been gone, This could have been it. But 0:20:54.280 --> 0:20:56.400 she said, from now on, I want us to start 0:20:56.480 --> 0:20:59.919 doing something special. Every night before we go to bed. 0:21:00.720 --> 0:21:04.359 I want us to kiss seven times, just to show 0:21:04.680 --> 0:21:06.440 how much we love each other, just to show that 0:21:06.480 --> 0:21:08.720 we're not taking each other for granted. She came up 0:21:08.760 --> 0:21:11.440 with that number seven, and so for these last fifteen 0:21:11.480 --> 0:21:14.520 to twenty years, way up into their eighties, they never 0:21:14.720 --> 0:21:18.760 went to bed without first kissing seven times. Well, one 0:21:18.840 --> 0:21:22.600 day last fall she got up just like normal, happy, loving, peaceful. 0:21:23.080 --> 0:21:26.959 She was walking to a doctor's appointment, accidentally fell hit 0:21:27.000 --> 0:21:29.480 her head on the concrete, her brain hemorrhage, and she 0:21:29.560 --> 0:21:31.680 went to be with the Lord. But what I love 0:21:31.880 --> 0:21:34.840 about the way this lady lived is she lived every 0:21:34.960 --> 0:21:38.080 day like it could be her last. She went to 0:21:38.160 --> 0:21:40.800 be with the Lord on Tuesday, but Monday night she 0:21:40.920 --> 0:21:44.399 kissed her husband seven times. Monday night, she told her 0:21:44.480 --> 0:21:48.000 husband how much she loved him. She didn't live in regrets. 0:21:48.359 --> 0:21:52.240 She wasn't too busy, she wasn't too lazy, she wasn't upset. 0:21:53.000 --> 0:21:56.800 She made every day a special day. She realized there's 0:21:56.840 --> 0:21:59.919 no such thing as an ordinary day. The last day 0:22:00.080 --> 0:22:03.840 of her life, she lived at loving, caring, at peace, 0:22:04.160 --> 0:22:07.520 enjoying it. That's the way I want to live. Friends. 0:22:07.560 --> 0:22:09.720 You never know how long we're going to be here. 0:22:10.440 --> 0:22:13.520 This day is a gift. It's a special day. It's 0:22:13.520 --> 0:22:16.960 not ordinary. Make the most of it. Don't go through 0:22:17.000 --> 0:22:21.560 it complaining, negative, holding a grudge. When Joel they did 0:22:21.680 --> 0:22:24.480 me wrong, I'm not speaking to them. No, be the 0:22:24.560 --> 0:22:28.239 bigger person. They may be at fault, but swallow your 0:22:28.320 --> 0:22:31.400 pride and make things right. Do you know how many 0:22:31.440 --> 0:22:34.760 people live in regrets today? How many times have I 0:22:34.840 --> 0:22:37.800 heard people say, if I could just tell them how 0:22:37.880 --> 0:22:42.560 much I really loved them, if I only had another chance, Friends, 0:22:42.640 --> 0:22:46.439 life is very fragile. We have to number our days. 0:22:46.800 --> 0:22:48.879 We have to realize people are not going to be 0:22:49.000 --> 0:22:52.800 here forever. Have you told your parents you love them lately? 0:22:53.400 --> 0:22:56.720 Have you told your spouse, your children how great it 0:22:56.880 --> 0:22:59.800 is to have them in your life. Do it often. 0:23:00.160 --> 0:23:03.639 Every day is a special day. And I know sometimes 0:23:03.720 --> 0:23:07.520 when we face difficulties, it's hard to stay grateful, it's 0:23:07.600 --> 0:23:11.080 hard to stay positive. But you know, the alternative is 0:23:11.160 --> 0:23:12.680 to come to the end of our lives and have 0:23:12.800 --> 0:23:14.800 to say, you know what, I spent most of my 0:23:14.960 --> 0:23:19.160 life negative, depressed, discouraged. No, let's develop some of these 0:23:19.320 --> 0:23:22.920 new mindsets and things may not be perfect in your life, 0:23:23.320 --> 0:23:26.400 but the fact is, this is the day the Lord 0:23:26.480 --> 0:23:29.920 has made. You are not on planet Earth by accident. 0:23:30.440 --> 0:23:33.200 There is nothing that you are going through that God 0:23:33.320 --> 0:23:36.239 is not aware of. There is no situation in your 0:23:36.280 --> 0:23:39.960 life that's too difficult for him. But God works where 0:23:39.960 --> 0:23:42.439 there's an attitude of faith. You've got to give him 0:23:42.480 --> 0:23:46.720 something to work with. Be grateful, stay at peace, and 0:23:46.800 --> 0:23:49.640 no matter what comes against you, learn to find the good. 0:23:50.440 --> 0:23:52.359 I was reading about a man by the name of 0:23:52.440 --> 0:23:56.040 Bill Bright. He was a founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, 0:23:56.520 --> 0:23:59.920 a very fine gentleman, a well respected leader. But towards 0:24:00.080 --> 0:24:03.600 the end of his life he developed an incurable lung disease. 0:24:03.960 --> 0:24:06.240 Was very painful. There was nothing that they could treat 0:24:06.320 --> 0:24:09.159 it with. Was eating away the lining of his lungs 0:24:09.560 --> 0:24:12.320 and it got so bad that he became bedridden. He 0:24:12.359 --> 0:24:14.960 couldn't go out anymore. And here he had spent the 0:24:15.080 --> 0:24:17.520 last sixty or so years traveling all over the world, 0:24:17.600 --> 0:24:20.000 doing so much good, and when it came down to 0:24:20.080 --> 0:24:24.000 the end, it seemed kind of anti climactic, kind of unfair. 0:24:24.680 --> 0:24:27.120 And just a few days before he died, a friend 0:24:27.160 --> 0:24:29.920 of mine went to visit him and he said, doctor Bright, 0:24:30.400 --> 0:24:32.960 I'm so sorry to see you in this condition. I'm 0:24:33.040 --> 0:24:35.920 so sorry to see you suffering. He said, no, no, 0:24:36.560 --> 0:24:40.160 I'm not suffering. I'm in an air conditioned room. I'm 0:24:40.200 --> 0:24:43.119 in a comfortable bed. I've got my family around me, 0:24:43.320 --> 0:24:46.320 I've got the best medical care in the world. See. 0:24:46.440 --> 0:24:51.640 A lot of people in that situation would have been complaining, negative, discouraged, 0:24:51.960 --> 0:24:55.399 but he chose to be grateful. He chose to focus 0:24:55.480 --> 0:24:59.400 on the positive. He realized every day was a special day, 0:25:00.000 --> 0:25:03.359 and his attitude was as long as I'm breathing that, 0:25:03.440 --> 0:25:06.440 I'm going to enjoy this day. That's the attitude we 0:25:06.560 --> 0:25:09.800 need to have. I think about our friend Freddie Lamb 0:25:09.840 --> 0:25:12.680 here on the front road. A few years ago. He 0:25:12.840 --> 0:25:15.800 lost his legs in an accident. He was out on 0:25:15.880 --> 0:25:18.720 the freeway changing a flat tire and a drunk driver 0:25:18.920 --> 0:25:21.359 came along and ran into him, crushed browth of his 0:25:21.520 --> 0:25:24.440 legs right underneath the knee. They had to be amputated. 0:25:25.040 --> 0:25:27.720 A few days after the accident, my parents went up 0:25:27.760 --> 0:25:29.719 to the hospital thinking that they were going to cheer 0:25:29.800 --> 0:25:32.639 him up and encourage him. But they got there. You 0:25:32.720 --> 0:25:35.119 gotta know, Freddy, he had a big smile on his face. 0:25:35.520 --> 0:25:37.840 He said, Hey, don't feel sorry for me. I know 0:25:37.960 --> 0:25:41.439 I'm not a victim. I'm a victor, he said. Pastor, 0:25:42.560 --> 0:25:45.320 he said, in effect, Pastor, I may have lost my legs, 0:25:45.440 --> 0:25:47.879 but I haven't lost my joy. I know. If it 0:25:48.040 --> 0:25:50.160 was not for the grace of God, I wouldn't even 0:25:50.240 --> 0:25:53.639 be here today. And some of you today you're sitting 0:25:53.680 --> 0:25:57.159 around in self pity, focused on what you've lost. But 0:25:57.280 --> 0:25:59.920 you need to do like Freddie and start thinking God 0:26:00.200 --> 0:26:02.760 for what you have left over. You may have lost 0:26:02.800 --> 0:26:05.160 a lot, but if God had not shown up, if 0:26:05.240 --> 0:26:07.800 God had not intervened, you could have lost it all. 0:26:08.119 --> 0:26:10.360 Why don't you shake off that self pity, shake off 0:26:10.400 --> 0:26:15.440 the discouragement, find some reason to be grateful. And really 0:26:16.200 --> 0:26:19.520 it's all in how we choose to see it. I 0:26:19.600 --> 0:26:21.440 heard a story about these two men that were in 0:26:21.520 --> 0:26:24.880 the hospital that were sharing a room together, and every 0:26:25.000 --> 0:26:28.240 day the man closest to the window would tell his 0:26:28.440 --> 0:26:31.600 friend what he saw outside. He would describe it in 0:26:31.680 --> 0:26:35.240 great detail, things like today, I see a beautiful sunrise, 0:26:35.640 --> 0:26:38.160 the kids are out there playing, the trees are blooming, 0:26:38.280 --> 0:26:41.760 on and on and every day this friend, who was 0:26:41.840 --> 0:26:44.440 not able to get out of bed, couldn't wait to 0:26:44.520 --> 0:26:47.280 hear what he saw outside. It was the highlight of 0:26:47.359 --> 0:26:50.080 his day. One time he told how he saw a 0:26:50.160 --> 0:26:55.680 parade coming by marching band, kids and people playing, just celebrating, 0:26:55.760 --> 0:26:58.840 having such a good time. This went on for several weeks, 0:26:59.119 --> 0:27:00.840 but one day this mayant and died went to be 0:27:00.960 --> 0:27:03.840 with the lord, and his friend asked the nurse if 0:27:03.880 --> 0:27:06.359 he could have the bed by the window so he 0:27:06.400 --> 0:27:09.040 could see all these great scenes, and so she moved 0:27:09.119 --> 0:27:11.480 him over there. But when he looked out the window, 0:27:11.600 --> 0:27:14.119 much to his surprise, all he could see was a 0:27:14.200 --> 0:27:17.200 brick wall. Ten or fifteen feet away was the other 0:27:17.280 --> 0:27:20.040 wing of the hospital. He called the nurse back in 0:27:20.119 --> 0:27:22.879 and said, hey, wait a minute, what's going on. My 0:27:23.080 --> 0:27:26.200 friend has described all these beautiful scenes for several weeks, 0:27:26.240 --> 0:27:29.760 and I can't see anything. The nurse smiled and said, Sir, 0:27:30.200 --> 0:27:33.840 didn't you realize your friend was blind? He was seeing 0:27:33.880 --> 0:27:36.720 it all on the inside. Now I believe in the 0:27:36.800 --> 0:27:40.040 same way, no matter what life deals us, we have 0:27:40.119 --> 0:27:43.840 the right attitude, we can find the good. If we 0:27:44.000 --> 0:27:47.320 have the right attitude, we can see the sunshine even 0:27:47.359 --> 0:27:50.000 when it's cloudy. We can stay full of joy even 0:27:50.040 --> 0:27:53.000 when things don't go our way. And my prayer is 0:27:53.040 --> 0:27:55.800 that God would give us a spirit of gratitude, that 0:27:55.920 --> 0:27:58.320 we'd always focus on the good, that we wouldn't take 0:27:58.359 --> 0:28:01.840 things for granted. We would treat each day as unique 0:28:02.240 --> 0:28:06.639 and irreplaceable. Friends. Life is fragile, This day is a gift. 0:28:07.040 --> 0:28:10.080 Make the most of it. Don't take people for granted, 0:28:10.440 --> 0:28:14.000 don't go around focused on what's wrong. Find some reason 0:28:14.080 --> 0:28:18.400 to be grateful. Remember the seeds of discouragement cannot take 0:28:18.520 --> 0:28:21.280 root in a grateful heart. If you'll get up every 0:28:21.359 --> 0:28:24.560 morning and thank God for that day, and then go 0:28:24.720 --> 0:28:27.879 through the day in that grateful lattitude, always focused on 0:28:27.920 --> 0:28:30.800 the good. And I can promise you this, you'll be happier, 0:28:31.119 --> 0:28:33.879 you'll rise higher, and you'll live that life of victory 0:28:34.119 --> 0:28:36.639 that God has in store. Amen. Do you receive it today? 0:28:37.480 --> 0:28:39.600 I know you do, and we've never like to propose 0:28:39.640 --> 0:28:43.080 our broadcast without giving you an opportunity to make Jesus 0:28:43.160 --> 0:28:46.080 the lord of your life.
